Achievements are measured in different terms. For a scientist, winning a Nobel prize might be the zenith of his achievement; for a player getting his picture in the cover page of Sports Illustrated might do it. For designers, having your design worn by a celeb-that to a royal princess, would mean a great deal.
Nobody is starting a ticker parade to celebrate this, a small acknowledgement shouldn't be criticized like this. Instead of suppressing the display of joy, why don't you just be proud of the fact for a few minutes that the accomplished designer was from your own country?

अब नेपालीको Prabal Gurung ले बनाएको  लुगा लगाउने छमता छैन त अनि  के को मतलब गरोस त | He does not need any publicity.

Singapore-born designer Prabal Gurung is one of the hottest names in eveningwear. Gurung’s talent for directional yet feminine silhouettes can be seen in his dreamlike prints, hot-hued gowns and sleek flared pants that add a cool new dimension to after-dark dressing.

Prabal gurung is not a Nepali citizen. Only people who are gung ho about prabal gurungs success are nepalis just like they were when Prashant tamang won the indian idol. Kaag lai bel pakyo harsha na bismaat

You are dragging the issue and making it a big deal by repeat criticism. Again, we aren't putting his poster on our cubicle walls here. We're just acknowledging an achievement by a fellow Nepali (or a person of Nepali origins). About the fact that he is not a Nepali citizen, if he were..would you be bringing out bhote jatra to celebrate it?

Last year I bought a T-shirt designed by Mr. Gurung via Amazon's MyHabit. I'm a US medium size. Guess what, it was too tight for me so I had to return it back!

Here comes Nepali egomaniac. Prabal Gurung is a Nepali by ethnicity and race. He proudly boasts himself as a Nepali which we should admire and be thankful  Being born on a foreign country should not divide our existence. We should welcome them with open heart. As we spread across the world, there will be more people like Prabal who are not natively born in their ancestral land. If you think just being born in Nepal matters that much, let me give you some examples. Here in the US, I've come across few Nepal born Indians who went back to India personally after growing up or with their parents in early childhood. They call themselves "Indian" and not “Nepali”. Trust me, there is nothing Nepaliness in them, some even after living in Nepal for significant amount of time. Millions of Indians are born in Africa, you think they call themselves “Africans”? Heck, I even met a lady half Nepali-half Russian ( originally born in Nepal ) from Moscow, who had very bitter feelings against Nepal and Nepali in general since her Nepali father divorced her mother when she was a child. So? These people "technically born in Nepal" are examples of scenario which clearly proves the complexity between nationality, race and ethnic identity. If you feel like digging deep, you'll be surprised that many of your favorite artist and writers from the past to contemporary has roots ( nationality ) in Darjeeling which is technically India.  But they are ethnically Nepali and you have accepted them. So what makes Prabal different?
What next, boycott Danny Denjogpa’s classic songs since he is not a Nepali. Do you see the hypocrisy?
The point is - why do you care so much of your Nepali citizenship? You think it is that precious?  FYI  It is sold like whores in illegal market anyway.
Infact, Prabal should be given a free Nepali citizenship for representing us but I don’t think he really needs it. He has better options. So be jealous and droll on.

That was not my point whether he is nepali or not it does not matter. I was just amazed why Nepalis are making a big deal out of this designer while we never ever hear of any support of designers Versace, Dolce Gabana, Christian Dior, Armani, from their respective country folks.

We poor nepalis have nothing to be proud of so we want to latch on to any ray of hope that comes along our way with any remote connecting to Nepal. It's the slave mentality it's the defeatist mentality. We need a master. Jai Prabal Gurung Jai jai jai hosh.

Apparently, nobody on here is subscribed to Time Magazine. While sitting on my toilet yesterday, I happened to flip to the "10 questions section" of my copy yesterday, and this is what I found. I must admit, I'm proud of this guy.

I must admit, I'm proud of this guy. I wish I had the transcript of the interview.

Bad Boy
How is that a "slave mentality" to admire our fellow Nepali? We're simply admiring his work, not sucking is cocooo. Why do we, in a Nepai diapora, have to talk about Versace and Armani, there is plenty of other site. Why can't we be popular like them. Isn't that a slave mentality to think only Westerns can make good clothes instead?
It is either this (a living person) or Mt. Everest and Buddha. You choose. We don't have much choice, sorry for being born as a Nepali. Feels low? Put on your Daura Surwal, take a shot of Khukari rum, grab a real Khukari and spin it, then charge yelling "Ayo Gorkhali" at the same time. Trust me, it works. Many generation of Nepali have survived low self esteem with that single act. No, it's not a joke. It's a theraputical remedy of our identity when faced with competition.

Je bhaye pani...i am happy for a fellow Gorkhey that he is in the limilight right now. Whether or not you like his design,  nor his citizenship question, and nor his personal feeling towards representing Nepal or Nepali but he has Nepali roots and i am happy that someone with Nepali roots is getting ahead.

Vhootee, I am not saying that only western designers are good. What I am saying is noone else makes a popularity of their countrymen's design a matter of national pride like us Nepalese do.

bad boy
If big countries like US and GBR start celebrating every fashion designer, they will be doing it 365 days a year. I am surprised you cannot understand why a small country like ours take pride on this kind of things. Name another big time glamor-celebrity of Nepali origin. You can count them in your one hand.

If Nepal wins an Olympic medal, it would be one of the proudest day in Nepali sports history, but if US does that, do you think they would care much? Understand the difference.

Now that the bloke is there and is getting some accolades, we are merely acknowledging it. Like I said, we aren't declaring a national Prabal Gurung day or taking a Prabal Gurung Jatra infront of Rato Machhindranaath.

If you still don't get this, I will take your input as troll who just wants to argue.

Bad Boy,
Can you give an example of your version of "national pride", maybe I’m missing something or unaware of such significant person that I should be proud of as a Nepali.
I smell jealousy now, or simply someone who just want to argue and never give up even when he makes no sense. In that case, I’ll leave you in peace. There’s no end to it.
