Hey.

Granted I don't know much about this guy's past, the article is neutral as to whether Minister Bista was at fault here. There could be a plethora of reasons he got detained, including silly human mistakes that when exposed to the media do nothing but create sensational headlines.

Abu Dhabi. Anyone else who travelled through that port have stories to tell? I knew of this one guy who's passport they held for 4 hours because they werent satisfied with its authenicity. the fk? He missed his connection. Sometimes the frustu officials there just want to give someone a hard time. It all boils down to personal ego at times.

Just trying to balance out what looks like people rejoicing his so called 'embarrasment' in the comments section of that article. I don't think we still know how to deal with news. We act like a bunch of monkeys.

He wass using his big mouth " I have right to carry my gun whereever i go coz I am Maoist"

The article stated that he failed to present travel documents. Well the tourism minister should know about a visa to travel foreign country.

Caco, neither I do know about this guy. What really surprised me is, if he is a minister right? he should have travelled on his diplomatic passport. I know, Nepalese passports require  visa to travel to UAE because just two months ago one of my cousin was deported from there despite being intervened by british officials (he works on british navy warship based in UAE). He had to go back to UK and was issued emergency visa to travel back. If mr bista was deported while travelling on his diplomatic passport, its not only a humiliation for him but an insult to Nepal.

I kind of agree with Caco; but it is slightly ironic that minister, that too of tourism and civil aviation, gets in trouble with travel.

KATHMANDU: A mere technical error and failure to notice it cost Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Lokendra Bista his peace of mind, according to a UAE-based Nepali diplomat.
Bista, who along with his wife had flown to Berlin of Germany via Abu Dhabi on Monday evening, had been allegedly detained by the immigration officials in the Abu Dhabi International Airport for travelling without a valid visa. But Deepak Adhikari, the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) at Nepali Embassy in the UAE, has another story to tell.
“A sticker was missing on Minister Bista’s German visa but this was not noticed in Kathmandu,” he told The Himalayan Times, “Airlines officials discovered this in the wee hours of Tuesday when the Bista couple went to the terminal to board the scheduled flight to Germany.” The minister’s wife, however, did not have any problems with her visa.
Minister Bista was not detained by the UAE immigration, DCM Adhikari claimed. “With due respect, the airlines officials arranged accommodation for the minister and his wife. He has not even been approached by the immigration officials.”
Adhikari, who is currently bearing the role of acting ambassador, said he met the minister at the airport today. “Minister Bista is willing to fly to Germany and we are working on getting a visa for him,” he said, informing that this, however, could not be done today as the Consular Office of German Embassy was closed after noon.
"If visa could be arranged, he will fly to Berlin at 1 am Thursday. But he will have to stay over there in transit for two more nights—to spend over 52 hours in the transit," he added.
The Bista couple had touched down in Abu Dhabi at 8:30 pm local time yesterday. They were set to board a plane to German at 1 am this morning. Minister Bista is set to attend the ITB Berlin Convention 2012 from March 7 to 12.

Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Lokendra Bista Magar was stopped and interrogated by the police at Abu Dhabi airport, UAE, when he landed there on a transit while flying to Germany Monday night.

Minister Bista was caught by the immigration officials at the airport after he was found to be travelling without visa to Germany. An official at the German Embassy confirmed to Nepalnews that he did not apply for visa.

However, an staffer at minister Bista's secretariat claimed that he was stopped by the police for interrogation "due to some confusion over printing in his diplomatic passport" and was released later on.

The minister's aide refused to explain the circumstances under which he was arrested and interrogated at the airport.

Minister Bista was released at the diplomatic initiation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but had not left for Germany by 7:15 pm NST with the Nepali diplomatic officials trying to secure his passage from Abu Dhabi to Germany.

MoFA officials are known to have convinced the German Embassy to communicate with the authorities in Abu Dhabi to allow him to fly to Germany.

Minister Bista had left Kathmandu yesterday for Germany to attend the ITB Berlin Convention 2012 to be held from March 7 to 11.

Ha ha, some people still can't see the fault of their minister and still tries to blame the authority of UAE for following their law. Do you expect maoist jungali rule everywhere? Or do you want them to put ministers above their law like Nepali officials at TIA did. Do they require to check traveler's visa before their departure? Weren't these the same officials who didn't allow sherpa didi to fly despite having Nepali passport and proper U.S. visa stamp? Ordinary citizens require to pay bribe even with all proper documentation while ministers and politicians don't require even the basics like visa of the country they're flying.

Maos think they're above law because that's the way it has been. Not only Maos, all these bloody politicans think the same way. This minister was the same person who still defends his right to carry arms to Parliament. Recently, all major political parties (who can't come to consenus for constitution) agreed to pardon hundreds of criminals.

Regarding Caco's try to shift the blame to foreign officials, Nepali passports are under scruitiny because there have been cases and arrests when they found it to be fake. So again everyone suffer because of these corrupted officials in home.

rumor has it, this minister was recently "gifted" a Visa card by a walthy businesswoman in new delhi, india. he was told the card is accepted anywhere in the world. our highly educated minister (compared to majority of parliament members without even a high school diploma), confused Visa credit card for an entry visa.
