I definitely admire him. It is not only his feelings, but the fact that he is so vocal about giving back. I hate those two bit engineers/doctors/professionals in USA who think Nepal, with its dust smoke and dirt, is not worth going back. Especially those suckers who ran away after getting free education in Maharajgunj, Pulchouk or in government scholarships abroad.

I hope Prabal's dreams will not be shattered by Nepali politicians. He can contribute something substantial it if he wishes to do so because he has money.

But, pire, I'm the one you refer as "suckers who ran away after getting free education in Maharajgunj, Pulchouk or in government scholarships abroad" but what can I do friend? I'm earning just enough to survive here, and saving a little more than while I was in Nepal. Do you know that if I go back and take a job of government officer, my salary will be around $130. I don't even have a home in Kathmandu, how would I survive there? Plus, why would I serve the government that does nothing for the people.

Sorry for going off track. I don't know much about Prabal, but what he said is impressive. Even if he does not do anything in Nepal, his words are enough. Pity, I can't even 'imagine' that I will be able to contribute substantially to Nepal.

Lamjung,

If you think you can't earn more than 130 dollars back home, then you can stay here. My engineer friends actually earn substantially more by working outside. You will not be able to make a house here in less than 20 years too. Your earning here won't be able to help you to make a house in KTM in 20 years anyway. You blame politicians quickly. Then why don't you become a good politician? Join it, and convince people that you have good vision. As for bad politician, ask any American and he will tell you that American politicians are really bad too. It is universal refrain to call politicians bad. Yes, ours are bad, but it is upto educated people to either go to politics and try to change the country, or change the country by working outside government.

And if you were offered scholarship and you are abroad now, then you are just a corrupt person like the other politicians. Everybody has some excuse in Nepal not to work for their country, even those politicians you decry too do, and that is not excusable. Oh, if you are making good money here, then will you just return the amount of money spent on you then? Give it back to your own school (if Maharajgunj, pulchouk type within country) or to your hometown if you were sent in scholarship.

Pire
Not to offend you cause I've crossed you before here. I think you're talking about "values" on your posting above. Our "values" that we can literally use to collectively inspire and build our neighbour is to be blamed, not politicians. Yes, you are right, politicians are corrupt everywhere. It is the everyday "Joe" that takes the responsibility and makes the difference. We causally call it as "civilized" which is a lame word. I happen to see an interview, right here in Sajha, of a celebrity(forgot his name) who lives in the US and now has retreated back to Nepal to make some movies, very honorable work. During the interview, after a while, he mentioned that our Phd student in the US would litter with candy wrapper after eating it, and the word "civilized Vs Uncivilized" was used. I find it very disturbing that our people label every honorable actions of the Western as "civilized". I completely disagree, it is their value, nothing to do with their "civilization". To make it short, we need a social reform and change our "values". How can you make a PHd student NOT throw away the candy wrapper on the street if he had never done it, never grew up doing it, wasn't told by parents, in school, wasn't condemned by his religion, has no fear or remorse or the guilt over it? He can pretend for a while infront of his American friend, but does he literally believe it, will be do it when he's alone? Does it matter how educated he is if he has a shitty value? Is education the sole factor of our people's salvation?
Something to ponder.....
Sorry if I got distracted, my 2 cents.

Talking about Prabal, literally very proud of him. Way to go. I'm mentioning his name all the time with friends now. Every Nepali should visit his facebook page.

Anil,

So what? How much do you make here?

And may be you are just a bad student. I mean I have heard on one with decent degree who gets 50 dollars in Nepal.

And why go after "job"? People who rented my land in Terai made tons of money growing and selling vegetables. Why did you choose to study a subject that pays you 50 dollars per month in the first place? If it was for money then wouldn't you have been better off working as a chana-chatpat seller in Butwal, who makes more than that? If you were talented you could have made a fortune out of it (say branding it, selling it in several cities etc etc).

These days, actually, more and more Nepali who are successful come  from humble background even in Nepal. It is their hardwork that not only enriched them, but also made society around them better off.
