Hi all,

I need some expert advice on starting a new business in Nepal. I know it may be not very favorable to start a business in Nepal, but I still want to consider various possibilities.
If there is any expert who knows the procedure to follow and would like to share, I would love to hear from. Things like regstration, employment, taxes and other regulations etc.

Thanks in advance.

Kissna

There is place for business anywhere in the world. You just need to find new ideas. I just read a news in PeopleBoat where a person started new business of Renting Crowd. For example, if you need 100 person for a demonstration, you have to pay the person $4 each person. The person will collect 100 person may pay $2 for each person he is sending in the demonstration.  So whatever number of people you need , just infrom him before a day and people will be right there for you...  to know more about the person GO TO PeopleBoat  So any thing is possible , just be positive

well, if u have good concept then go ahead... to be a successful entrepreneur you have to take some reasonable risk.... I think this would be the best time to invest in Nepal caz I hope the peace process going to be in logical end soon, so that u can get first mover advantage (competitive advantage).

For all legal procedures (by-laws, registration, etc) and start-ups , it is better to hire a legal consultant.

Well if you are starting a company then you need to get the company registered, don't exactly know with who but talking with Nepal Chamber of Commerce would be a good start. Depending on your business transaction amount you might either need to get a PAN# or VAT#.  I guess your business transaction decides whether VAT applies to your business or not. Green plate means VAT applies, Yellow and White means no. I guess some of the taxes that apply to your business would be TDS (which applies to income, personal and company, the rate is dependent on the amount. Ranges from 0 to 25% I think), VAT and maybe Rental tax. If you are importing, custom duties will include custom tax, VAT, not sure if LDT (Local Development Tax) applies these days. Custom tax is dependent on the officials valuation of the goods, harmonic cod is important. Exporting maybe different. As for employment, Nepal has a minimum wage, there is a 1% deduction for Social Security. I would say you would need a good accountant to get better details of the taxes and lawyer to handle the legal issues such company registration and employee issues. But I think if you are just starting a boutique some of these things don't even apply to you. I think you should talk to someone with a boutique shop here in Nepal to find out.

Before you start business ( hoping it is over million dollars ), get a label of any party specially those party who are pocketing money.

During my visit to Nepal , I found these rulings.

If X builds house in Y's land ( present rule, have to file petition within two years ) ( time limitation), otherwise the X owns the house in Y's land.  Y can not do any thing but looses land, no demolition of building but if you hire gunda and demolish is okay. Tit for TAT.

Why we are running after Pankaj Joshi, we will find thousands like him.

legally there are there type of business entatity in Nepal first one is sole trading second is partnership and company for single person you may choose either sole trading or private company. sole trading concern are less formalities and one person can start only one private compay have limited lialibility and more legal formalilty you can register sole trading concern in department of commerce with recommandation from chamber of comarce  or distrik association of industries and commarce minimum registration is firm and tax that is pan no if your business is more than 2 milion rupies than vat registration also compultary and some other licence is required for specific type of business such for banking company need licence form central bank for travel agency form tourism board

that much is enough for legal requirement for more need to know about your nature of business

have a happy selling
