American Society of Nepalese Engineers (ASNEngr) elects the First Slate of Executive Officers and Society Directors at its Historic First Annual Meeting
The American Society of Nepalese Engineers (ASNEngr) held its very successful First Annual Meeting & Conference during July 4-5, 2008 at the Association of Nepalis in the Americas (ANA) Convention in Hunt Valley (greater Baltimore area), Maryland. The meeting started on Friday, July 04 with an introductory presentation on ASNEngr and its many significant activities/achievements during its first year of operation by Ramesh B. Malla, Ph.D., Chair of then Steering Committee (governing body) of the Society. Earlier that day, Prof. Malla also made a presentation about the Society to the General Assembly of ANA. The day ended with technical presentations on a variety of topics. They included “Petroleum Exploration in Nepal†by Dr. Rajendra Shrestha of ConocoPhillips Company, Houston, TX; “Software Development and Out Sourcing in Nepal – A Case Study†by Himal Karmacharya of D2Hawkeye, Inc., MA.; “Reliability of the High-k Gate Stack in CMOS devices†by Pradeep Khanal of University of Texas, Austin, TX; and “Engineering & Construction on the Moon – A New Frontier of Exciting Challenges for Engineers to Conquer†by Dr. Ramesh B. Malla of University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT.
The second day, July 5th, started with the general meeting of the society membership followed by the election of the Society’s Officers and the Directors. Following the announcement of the election results by Prof. Prahlad D. Pant, Chair of the Election/Nomination Committee, the meeting of the newly elected Board of Directors (Officers and Society Directors) discussed the Society’s future plan and activities. The members of the Steering and the Nomination/Election Committees were also recognized in the meeting by presenting them with Certificates of Appreciation.
According to the election results, Ramesh B. Malla, Ph.D. (CT) was elected as President; Rajendra Shrestha, Ph.D. (TX) as Vice President; Jagannath Ghimire (MD) as General Secretary; Prakash Khanal (SC) as Joint-Secretary; Pratibha Chaulagai Phuyal (IL) as Treasurer; and Komal Dutta (IL) as Information Secretary. The following individuals have been elected as member-at-large to serve on the Board of Directors of the Society: Devendra M. Amatya, Ph.D., P.E. (SC); Rajendra Bajracharya, Ph.D., P.L.S. (ID); Rajesh Bajracharya (ON, Canada); Subodh Bhandari, Ph.D. (CA); Rishi Bhattarai, P.E. (TX); Yubaraj Budhathoki, P.E. (VA); Naveen Dutta (CO); Bimal Devkota, P.E. (MD); Laxman Devkota, Ph.D., P.E. (AZ); Bishnu Phuyal, Ph.D. (IL); Sukh Gurung, Ph.D. (NY); Upendra Lal Joshi, P.E. (CA); Bimal Karki, P.E. (SC); Himal Karmacharya (MA); Pradeep Karna (AZ); Upendra Karna, D.Eng., P.E. All members and friends of Nepalese engineering and scientific communities are invited and encouraged to become members and support the activities of the Society. Since the first call for official membership in the Society was issued in February, 2008, there has been an extremely enthusiastic response. American Society of Nepalese Engineers (ASNEngr) - a non-profit organization – aims at providing a platform for Nepalese, and their friends, in engineering and closely related scientific and technical areas to come together, exchange ideas, and support each other for their and the larger society’s common good. The Society also strives at promoting engineering and technological advancement in Nepal. The Society was formally launched at the first general organizational meeting held on September 02, 2007 at the 2007 NASeA–ANMA Joint Convention in Atlanta, Georgia.
