I was in Nepal about this time last year. I was there for 4 weeks. I had to pay few credit cards and other bills during that period. So I thought I will log in to my online banking and pay the bills from Internet Cafe since I didn't own computer back home. I decided to go to dot com cafe in Chippleghunga (Pokhara) and tried to log in to my online banking. I hit
www.halifax.co.uk on the address bar, it took about 2 minutes before i could see the log in field. Still no worries, I entered my log in detail and waited, Nothing happened for 20 minutes. I spoke to the guy at the cafe about the speed of the connection, he tells me it is opening the page just wait. i waited stairing at the monitor for 30 minutes finally i gave up and left the cafe paying 50 RS for straining my eyes for half hour. I had to pay the bill to avoid late payment fee so decided to pay over the phone and pay the fourtunes for the phone calls. As you guys know how long we will have to wait before we can speak to someone. Now I am going to Nepal again for 6 weeks, but I have got all direct debit set up so I don't have to worry about paying my bills.
But please read this article below. I really feel sad about the Internet connection in Nepal.
8 Mbs connection for $9000/Month, is it a joke?
