Bruce's songs encapsulate all things about life and relationship, faith, trust and disillusionment. THese songs are as real for Nepalis as Americans or any other community. From Asbusy Park to Devil and DUst; he has inspired many people, including me to live, love and learn. I invited other Nepalese fans of the boss to share their experiences.

Bidhan, Bruce has had countless number one albums as well as singles in pop, rock and folk charts. After the meteoric success of Born in the USA, which had many number one singles; he deliberately chose to produce meaningful songs and albums rather than commercial ones. People who have followed his musical journey will understand. Foe, if you like "I'm on Fire" another song called just "Fire" is also very seductive. The song "GLory Days" reminds me of having fun with my pals at school. "Well, they pass you by glory days", is true because we grow out of many things. Personally, I like his realistic appraisal of human relationships in Tunnel ofLove and Human Touch. I wonder if we become scarred by our relationships or become fortified: I met a girl and we ran away, I swore I'd make her happy everyday - now I made her cry; Two faces of Fire - just some words I replay in my mind time and time again not because I hurt anyone but just that life is complex and we do not get all we want.

"Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen was used in former US President Ronald Regan's presendential election campaign. It as such a great blunder by Ronald Regan. Probably Ronald Regan had no idea that "Born in the USA" was protest song singing tales sorrounding the difficulties faced by average men in the Vietnam War and the difficulty living a normal life since their return from Vietnam War . It is rather strange that John Kerry used another song "No Surrender" from the same album as a theme song for his 2004 pesidential election campaign.

I am surprised to know that he did not have number one hit. It is probably one of the idiosyncracies or trivia as you attested to it, Bidhan. The strength of Bruce Springsteen from his early songs lie in their story telling - in fact a number of his songs have been made in to movies (I forgot the title of the songs from Nebrasksa album). Even after his heyday, his songs also became title tracks for hit films like Philadelphia (Streets of Philadelphia), and Jerry Maguire (Secret Garden). I saw Bruce Live in 1994 and was mesmerized by not just his superstar quality but also in the way he and his songs connected with his fans. I have been his fan for his music as well as his political views and actions. His songs expess the struggle faced by immigrants as well as his opposition to Iraq war. He is someone who can be compared to Bob Dylan and Woodie guthrie for their poetic writing. The songs he has been writing in the last wenty years would never make it to number one hits: take the Ghost of Tom Joad title track is about a character from Steinbacks's Grapes of Wrath story about the disillusionment of American Dream. If there are other real fans of the Boss; it would be nice to start a Nepalese fan club - I have thought about opening a cafe in Kathmandu in my later life and keep playing Boss's records..... When I listen to "Bobby Jean", I think of all my friends who are not with me at that time..

I have always wanted to drive around New Jersey playing Bruce Springsteen's music. The surroundings may not be that rosey but just a fantasy. Now that the Boss himself has escaped to a mansion in LA - maybe romanticism of one's origins has gone. Sapre parts and broken hearts, keep the world turning round and round!
