Acharya to contest NC presidency

KATHMANDU, Aug 18 - Nepali Congress (NC) central committee member Narahari Acharya Thursday said that he would be forced to contest the election for party president if a leader supporting full democracy doesn't step forward.
Acharya made the remark while speaking at an interaction programme in Pokhara today.

Alleging the party President Girija Prasad Koirala of remaining in status quo, Acharya said, ?The party is searching for a new leadership to establish democratic norms.?

He also said that the 11th general convention scheduled to be held in Kathmandu from Aug.30-Sept.1, would discuss constituent assembly election, internal democracy, Maoist insurgency and institution of monarchy.

He added he was observing if there were any leaders in the party who favor democracy. "I will fight for the post if I didn't find anyone," said Acharya.

Acharya?s announcement for the party?s top post has come a day after NC President Koirala blamed him of being a pawn of royal palace.

Koirala during a programme in Biratnagar Tuesday had accused Acharya and student leader Gagan Thapa of being pawns of royal palace. (snn)

IndisGuise ! you are right. But its not gonna happen, coz GIRIJA has already secured his victory, by selecting conference respresentatives those are determined to vote him. Govinde and sushil are helping him for this. and you know last week, Sujata distributed a panel list of 13 people, to be voted for new NC executive body. I have heared that Narahari is not there in the list. She got another HIJADA: Ram Chandra in this list.
SO, its sure that GIrija will win and in case it goes otherwise, GIrija will postpond the convention and say "NARAHARI LE ADHIBESAN BHADYO."

timro kura ta thikai ho.....but at least, if Narahari contests for the position, then Nepali people will know what is going on in there...haami Nepali ta bhedaa chhau ni ta....teso garyo bhane, at least alikati bhaye pani janata ko aankha ta khulla.....

Looks Nepali Congress is going to have an serious convention. What we will see is a heavy intellectual polarization in Nepali Congress. Even though Narhari may not win due to some third class politics played by Girijia, Govinda etc, but his candidacy makes him a serious and strong leader and his ideas can?t be taken lightly.

I wish Girijia will loose the election and I pray for speedy death of Mr. Girijia Koirala.

let's wish the upcoming convention will be democratic and the elected leader will lead the nation to the right direction. If narhari wins the election, he would prove himself a savant leader.

So you are saying that girija baje's victory is apparent? What could be more omnious than that? Those other paketmara haru, i.e, Shusil, Sujata, Govinde and all are useless and does not have a mass appeal anyways. Ops - does it really matter? I guess not.

Aba hune nai tyai ho bhane, what the point now? Why should people come for those politcal parties and give much ado to "their" aspiration to yet again, super-size their bank balance?
