What could be the reason to kill these Teachers???

Muktinath Adhikari was reportedly abducted by Maoists on 16 January while teaching at the Pandini Sanskrit Secondary school at Duradanda, Lamjung district. A group of four Maoists tied his hands behind his back, and took him about 200m from the school. There he was tied to a tree and shot in the stomach. He died on the spot. Muktinath Adhikari is convenor of Amnesty International local group in Lamjung district; he was acting headmaster of the school. It is suspected that the reason for the killing of Muktinath Adhikari is his membership of the Nepal Teachers' Association affiliated to the ruling Nepali Congress Party (NC). Apparently he had earlier refused to give "donations" demanded by the Maoists and had received threats.

Harka Raj Rai, headmaster of Sisapani High School at Kaule village, Khotang district was abducted on 16 January by members of the Khumbuvan Liberation Front, affiliated to the CPN (Maoist). He was shot dead later that day.

Twenty eight teachers have been deliberately killed by the Maoists, nine of whom since a state of emergency was declared in late November 2001; dozens of others have been maimed. On 12 January, Maoists killed three people, including Top Bahadur Subba, a teacher at a village in Terhathum district. In the evening of 11 January, Tak Bahadur Patangwa, a teacher at Janta Secondary School, Taplejung district was among four people killed, reportedly by a group of around 35 Maoists who had entered the house where they were sleeping. On 6 January, a group of Maoists entered the home of Rameshwor Pokharel, the headmaster of Sharada High School in Khoplang, Gorkha district and attacked him. The victim's relatives said the rebels broke his leg with a hammer. Shiva Prasad Adhikari, 28, a teacher at Mancha Kanya High School, Hansapur village, Gorkha district was brutally attacked in his school. He died while undergoing treatment at the Bhacchek Health Centre on 17 December. On 23 December, Maoists hacked off the hand of Khem Bahadur Rana, the Headmaster of Bahakot High School, Syangja district.

thanks a lot for your comment. i think you could help me too here. i was thinking about visiting at least one school suffered by maoist's terrorist action during my visit on july.

I got a question. i also heard that students were crying and peeking thru the window while maoist were touturing Adhikari sir. Do you remember any tree around 200 m radius from the class??

could you post the address of ur school?? maybe somebody wants to help the students over there.

I was not present at that moment at my school. since i had left Lamjung many years from the time of that incident. Muktinath sir used to teach in SARBODAYA HIGH SCHOOL and was transffered to PADHINI SANSKRIT HIGH SCHOOL as the HEAD MASTER who was surving PADHINI was threathened so had to flee away when he was in DISTRICT CAPITAL, BESHISHAR on the way to some school work. Then Mukti sir went to PADHINI HIGH SCHOOL.

On the day of that incident, mao groups went to class. They forced Sir to came out. What i came to know was they asked for donation. Sir didn't accept the proposal. No one knew more about their conversation. Then they forcefully blindfolded Adhikary sir, and tied his hands on the back and took him to CHANDRAPATA, where SARBODAYA HIGH SCHOOL is located ( may be about 3 kilometer north of PANINI). Students of SARBODAYA tried to free their respected teacher, Muktinath sir. I was told, mao group threathed to kill those students. No one dared to go close to him. Then rebels took Adhikary sir to the west side ( small hill has to climb) where WATER DISTRIBUTION TANK is located. Near by that water tank they tied Adhikary sir in a tree ( CHILAUNE-KO RUKH) and shot him brutely.

Particulary if you want to go to DURADANDA LAMJUNG where Respected Muktinath Adhikary sir lost his valuable life, you may want to contact Former parliament MEMBERS, RAM B. GURUNG, RAMCHANDRA ADHIKARY, and specially HARIBHAKTA ADHIKARI who is also associated with different NGO & INGOS in the past. They will help you out for sure. There used to be LAMJUNG SAMPARKA SAMITI in SAMAKHUSHI Kathmandu. With little search you will be able to contact those people there.

Last time H.B. Adhikary was arrested by NEPALI POLICE as King TOOK OVER the POWER. Ya, that is true it would be better to go through other channels. That will not be a problem.

Then they were building the road in duradanda but was incomplete as the budget was being used in SECURITY. I doubt, we have useable road downthere.

समसामयिक विषयमा प्रवेश गर्नुभएकोमा धन्यबाद। मेरो बिचार अलि फरक छ। म स्याङ्जाको गंगालाल मा वि को शिक्षक गुप्त बि क मारिएको बिषय सँग केहि परिचित छु। घटना हुन भन्दा केहि दिन अघि त्यहाँ एक माओबादी प्रतिकार समिति गठन गरिएको थियो।कुरा अलि अघिको हो, जतिबेला माओबादीले यति बद्नामी कमाइसकेको थिएन। गाउँमा केबल २-४ जना युवा मात्र माओबादीमा लागेकाथिए। गाउँमा रक्सि र तास बन्द गराउन ती २-४ जना नै काफी थिए।
