Escaped Daughter of Former Premier Says King Ruling by Terror

Ranjit Devraj

NEW DELHI, Feb 13 (IPS) - Sujata Koirala's decision to escape from the Himalayan nation of Nepal was made after soldiers began to harass her when her 81-year-old father, Girija Prasad Koirala, was put under house arrest following King Gyanendra's seizure of power on Feb. 1.

The daughter of the prominent former Nepal prime minister and several politicians from her father's party then made a six-day trek overland - walking and at times riding pillion on motorcycles -- to neighbouring India.

On her way down south, Koirala saw pitched battles between the Maoist rebels and the Royal Nepal Army (RNA) in remote areas near Chitwan district, near the Nepal-India border.

But she said the Maoists appeared to be having the upper hand. ''It was scary because I could have been killed by either the rebels or the army.''

Koirala said it was only a matter of time before the Maoists, who are believed to number more than 300,000 got the better of the RNA that was only about 78,000 strong.

''How long can they (RNA soldiers) fight when they have been busy selling arms to the Maoists and making a business out of the civil war,'' she told a gathering organised by the Delhi- based Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union.

On Feb. 1 Nepal's King Gyanendra went on state-run television and said democracy in his country was in peril and the ''Nepali people's right to live peacefully'' was being threatened by a long-running Maoist insurgency since 1996 that has seen over 10,500 people killed.

He then accused the government of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba of failing to conduct parliamentary elections and being unable to restore peace in the country.

Soon after the king's address, a state of emergency was declared and Indian news agencies reported that all telephone lines and mobile phone networks were shut down - effectively cutting the country off from the rest of the world.

According to reports from the Nepali capital Kathmandu some 1,000 leaders and activists from political parties, student groups and trade unions had been rounded up nationwide. Royal Nepal Army spokesman Brigadier General Dipak Gurung said that a security committee under the Home Ministry would determine how long activists remain locked up. ''They can be detained for three months,'' the general said.

Koirala said Nepali soldiers had posed as Maoist rebels after the king took over and started to harass political leaders, including her father.

''First, they came as Maoists and threatened him. The next day, the same people came as army people, detained my father and asked him to testify that I had links with Maoists,'' she said.

She said she feared for her father's safety.

''He might be subjected to mental torture and I fear that they would apply slow poison to harm his life,'' she said.

''I also fear that he may be killed on some pretext - so many people have disappeared in Nepal in the last few days and we hear of torture and killings coming in from towns other than Kathmandu,'' Koirala added alarmingly.

She described conditions in the Nepali capital, which she fled six days ago as chaotic with soldiers going from house to house terrorizing people and openly taking away valuables and vehicles and then laying the blame on Maoists.

''With an information blackout, atrocities done by the RNA can easily be attributed to the Maoists and anything can happen to ordinary people with anyone daring to speak quickly silenced,'' she said.

Voicing serious concern over the ban on private radio channels in Nepal following the royal takeover, the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters urged the new government to remove the ban on community radios to broadcast news and current affairs programmes.

After King Gyanendra imposed a state of emergency and swore in a new government, the army started to crackdown on private radio channels and publications - including newspapers -- in the name of ensuring security in the country. The FM stations were told to broadcast only entertainment programmes.

Meanwhile on Saturday, the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) condemned the declaration of emergency in Nepal and appealed to King Gyanendra to initiate meaningful dialogue with all political parties in order to restore democracy.

The ICFTU also urged the United Nations and the International Labour Organisation to send a fact-finding mission to look into cases of violation of trade union rights and atrocities on workers.

The call for dialogue was also repeated by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during a visit to the southern Indian city of Bangalore on Saturday.

Singh said India hoped the elected government and the royal family could co-exist without friction in Nepal.

''Constitutional monarchy and multi-party democracy are twin pillars of Nepalese society. It is our hope that Nepal will move in that direction,'' Singh told reporters.

But Koirala said the monarchy has lost the confidence of the people, but was managing to survive with the help of the military.

''The 'twin pillars' of a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy has never really worked in the country,'' she said. ''It's a feudal and dictatorial regime in Nepal.'' (END/2005)

She is exposing herself. Earlier in one of the news (was also posted in sajha) she said she walked 4 days and now in this news she added two more days to make story more sensational. At the same time if any one check with bbcnepali.com could find news saying she reached India on motorbike. Three different stories which one to belief.

Her rating is 0000000.

DO they Koirala clan know what a mess and mockery they have made of democracy with Girija its leader? With all the happenings, our dear leader BP must be turning in his grave.

Girija is largely responsible for all the mess we have now. He or his party governed most of the 14 years of democracy. The Girija clan (Shailaja Acharya, Amod Upadhyaya, Prakash, Sushil, Sujata, Shasanka, Nirjanjan, Nona, Laxman Basnet, Mahesh Acharya, Chakra Parshad the hijacker, and many more) ruled with other chamchas. The Lauda and Dhamija scandals took so much of the time away from focusing on the real work. Girjia's quarrel over petty things and power with Ganesh Man, Deuba, KP Bhattarai and Yog Prasad Upadhyaya took him and the country to another plane. Girija gave birth and protection to corrupt leaders like Khum Bahadur, Govindaraj, Chiranjivi, Gachhedar, Jay Prakash Gupta, until each of these corrupt leaders dumped him.

The Koirala clan may be good in organising the underground movement but they have shown that they are zero in running the country. We have tried all Koirala and their kith and kins; all of them were nothing except sharing the loot in the style of Bihar democracy.

Even if Girija and clan had shown 10% of BP's wisdom, the country would not have been in the mess as it is now.

It is really very unfortunate for all of us Nepalis. There will be very few to shed tears when Girija and his clan are allowed to fade.

Let me pour my venom and i shall rate.

"Maoists, who are believed to number more than 300,000 got the better of the RNA that was only about 78,000 strong. "
--> The bitch is lying. Is that a joke? 300,000. BITCH.

"But she said the Maoists appeared to be having the upper hand. ''It was scary because I could have been killed by either the rebels or the army.''
---? How would she know. Is she an expert military analysis? Or was she watching the war and giving points? Bitch. she is lyingggggggggg. But how i wish she was there and maoist would shoot her on her ass, with rocket launcher. Disgusting bitch.

"But Koirala said the monarchy has lost the confidence of the people, but was managing to survive with the help of the military."
---> Half truth. People have lost confidence in everything, most importantly people like her and her crook father, not just monarchy. Monarchy is not a choice we made, it was just the ONLY option we had. Help of the military, true, but there are people who would rather have monarchy at the least as a symbolic figure, unlike her father and her which no one wants.

"''The 'twin pillars' of a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy has never really worked in the country,'' she said. ''It's a feudal and dictatorial regime in Nepal.''
----> Then what the fawk was she and her father doing? Sucking our blood? And what was it before this. It was democracy indeed, but for political leaders and their asses.

She is just buying a cheap publicity & disguising as a daughter of a patriot. My ass. Regarding her travelling on foot via jungle for 6 days. She would dead if she even tried that for a day/ A bitch she is, she is just trying to gain sympathy and positioning herself to be in some kind of position when the time comes for the democracy to be restored by protraying herself and her crook father a national leader in true sense in the (uninformed)western and (biased) indian media.

Mahila prahari le bhatai bhatai hannu parne chakma basnai namilne gari... jathi.. deemag tataucha sala. She disgusts me just like her old man. A liar, crook and leech, she hopes to be termed as a fabled national leader of Nepal. Fawk her.

And regarding possible poisioning and killing girija baje.
Mero bhanne yehi ho.
"Rahyo kura girija lai marne tarika. Kehi garnu pardaina. Just leave in tudikhel and and let eone know that any and every one who wishes to "ask" any questions and demand answer from him shall feel free. And declare that place lawless. ( tyasai pani ta law os the mighty nai cha Nepal ma). Janta le nai kehi nagari ek ek thapad hanyo bhane 20-30 ma behoss, 40-50 ma mutu ko byetha and tyaspachi 10-20 ma mrityu huncha. Bakli hajarau hajar le lass ma laat hancha. Baje jatha. Kehi kaam chaina tyasko. Thokde huncha point blank range ma. goli khera jala feri. "

Now my rating. It is --. yes it is Minus aka negative. -100 out of 100. The bitch pisses me off. Disgusting

IndisGuise :-O

Foreign danda might have turned her Mouth Phohari.. chhi chhi. Ke banchha tyo? ORGY? ORAL? Thukka!!!

From what I know, she lived in Biratnagar and from my limited Geographical knowledge, Bihar (Jogbani) is not 6 day trek from Biratnagar. Riksawala / Tempoo le 1/2 hour ma puryaucha.... hiderai gaye pani few hours bhanda badi laagdaina. tara haina Sujata Delhi samma nai hidera gai bhane ta mero bhannu kechi chaina ....
So, whatever she is doing is for the cheap publicity. Read this article from her; she starts by saying "Politics is in my blood.".....
Tyahi politics ko upaj ho tyesko ye sabai jhutta haru...

By the way, she is ugly too if anyone cares.

Just wanted to share another similar JOKE published in "times of India". :)
Its the same shit she vomited earlier :), but did not cease to make me laugh nevertheless.;)

Koirala's rough ride to freedom

NEW DELHI: "I could have been killed by the Royal Nepal Army or Maoists. Or worse, I could have been eaten by tigers," says Sujata Koirala, a slight shiver convulsing her body as she pulls her black woollen shawl tighter.

The daughter of Girija Prasad Koirala, prime minister until 2001 and for most of the 14 years that Nepal has had a democratic government, pauses for breath several times as she excitedly recounts her five-day trek from the Himalayan darkness to freedom in India.

"I've never had such a terrible time, but I?ll never forget this journey," she said in an exclusive interview to STOI on Saturday.

Koirala, 54, says she slipped out of Kathmandu riding pillion on a motorcycle, a helmet covering her head and the same shawl draped across her face. "The army was searching cars, but they didn?t think a former PM?s daughter would escape on a bike."

Her journey and the desperation to reach safety symbolises the struggle of the Nepali people, she says.

Her father, 81, was put under house arrest the same day King Gyanendra sacked Sher Bahadur Deuba as prime minister, assumed full control and unleashed an army of 78,000 soldiers, crushing Nepal?s democratic aspirations.

"Had I tried to take a flight out, I would have been arrested. I know I was on a list of people the King?s army intended to torture," she says, sitting in a south Delhi guest house room, crammed with a twin bed, a couch as well as a coffee table.

Faced with that prospect, she chose an option "which I didn?t realise would be the adventure of my life."

Guys sorry to repeat this posting again but I simply hate this woman.

''What Non-sense sympathy on this idiot shameless wh*re?

I am a democratic man and fully support the trial of corrupt suspects in accordance to the law and adhering to the preservation of the individual's basic rights. I also explicitly condemn the King's action on feb 1. But, I wouldn't mind if this woman is executed or at least given a life sentence with all of her property confiscated. There is no one more responsible then Sujata Jost for the failure of multiparty system in Nepal.

She came back in Nepal from Germany as soon as her father became Prime Minister , then she blackmailed her father, she blackmailed the congress government and treachered against the country. I would have been over the moon if her motorbike had fallen in trishuli or struck the hill side or she had been eaten up by the Tiger and her carcass rolled and licked by foxes in the jungle. Down with this traitor. Down with her sympathiser.''
