KATHMANDU, Oct 12 - The government has decided to release a sum of 90,000 pounds sterling (Rs 12 million) to princess Helen Shah to support her ongoing treatment.
A government source told the Post that a cabinet meeting took the decision last week.

"The cabinet decision has already been forwarded to the Ministry of Finance and the amount would be released within this week," said the source.

Helen Shah, ailing since the last couple of months, is currently undergoing treatment in the UK.

And don't expect the Nepali press (which is gettiing its own bundle of hand outs from
the government) to explain, much less question, the reason behind the government's
generosity.

Hey, these things happen, and that's life in Nepal.

Meantime, some Nepalis -- with great resourcefulness and love for their felow countrymen -- are collecting nickels and dimes (relatively speaking) to send to
the families of the 12 killed-in-Iraq Nepali hostages.

Then again, as JFK famously asked: "Who said life is fair?"

Would be interesting to know how much the government gave Nepal's first actor Shivashanker, who is also a famous lyricist and singer, to fly to New Delhi for treatment of liver cancer. Saw him flying to New Delhi just last week. Anyone knows?

These parasites of our country - first they enjoy a lakhs of rupees as salaries and bhraman bhatta, this and that. They have nothing to do except getting drunk all the time and ruin their health. Now, they ask for moeny for treatment - THEY ARE JUST BEGGARS. Just see how most of our brothers and sisters are living....

Sher Bahadur is jwaain of Ranas. So, how can one hope to stand against such unnecessary expences? He is henpecked. All nepalese pay taxes just for these leeches to enjoy. We should all unite together and completely wipe out like in France or Russia.
