Currently we are in the knowledge age where knowledge is king. The people today are full of knowledge. Even for the wrong understanding people are able to come up with a list of logic to justify the thinking. Logic is used however our mind pleases. This is why it is easy to doubt. People today have not experienced spirituality. Same thing for Hindus by heritage. That is why it is easy for evangelists of various religions to convert them to their religion. For a long time there was a vacuum which was not filled by our spiritual leaders.
