If you are PHD student in good standing why are you so afraid to apply for visa. If they don't give it, they don't deser you. And some one said, he is in opt, it's perfectly fine to travel on opt too. There might be some scenario of opt with expired visa , cap gap and things like that, but again this TPS aslo won't be quick enough. I signed it for the sake of few who might probably really need it. As we all know, USA has one messed up immigration system.It took me almost 9 years to gain residency whereas some people are simply lucky enough to get one by lottery system. but I am not jealous, I am happy for them, I am sure lots of us are stuck in some sort of immigration limbo and If they are allowed to travel and work, It will benefit us more.
Lets hope for speedy recovery for all the victims and lets hope USA will grant TPS so few unfortunates will also get opportunity to visit their loved ones and help.
