My status changed from F1 to H1 last October and I do not have H1B visa stamping in my passport. My driver's license is expiring in a month and I got this when I was in F1 status. I went to DMV last week to renew my license with all the necessary documents. I am in PA now and my current driving license is from another state. I was told that they could not verify my status and they needed to contact USCIS to verify my status. They told that I will receive a letter about the verification result in my mail box in 3 weeks. They also told that in certain cases, it might take 30 days or more.
If I am not able to renew my license in a month, I will really be in trouble..
I am also planning to move in a month...that makes it more complicated...

Has any one faced this before? If you have, how many days did it take? Is there anything I can do to expedite the process?

Thanks in advance,
TTT

Show them your H1 document and bank statement of last 2 months with your current address which acts as a proof of residency in PA. I don't think they need anything else, not even a passport. They will issue you new license which will be valid till the day of your h1 expiry date.

My wife has State ID from PA and when we went to renew her ID in same state PA, we were told they need to check status in USCIS. It looks like her DOB is not correct in USCIS . Same thing happened when she had her first State ID in PA. That time I think it took 2 weeks to get a letter from USCIS. It looks like they never corrected her DOB in USCIS. :( My wife is in H4 visa all the time.
So I think something is not correct in USCIS so they will ask for status verification.

Tic-tac,

Tic tac,
You should not have any problem if you have your papers from H1 approval and whatever required for driver's license. May be different state has different rules.

Another tick you can play if you need this real bad, what I would doif I were you is go back to different counter ( I mean with different person). The reason I say that is sometimes the people who works at the station may not know all about this visa's and all. (Just an idea)

if this does not work then all you can do is suck it up.
