Friends,

We aways talk how bad our politicians, police, administration etc are.  We all know that they are one of us.  Maybe they are my family or your family.  So, why not talk about them.

1) I honestly don't think my uncle was qualified to beomce a CDO.  Yet, he bribed almost all parties and rose to power.  He transferred himself to revenue generating places like Immigration in Airport, Bordering towns etc.  He built a 60 lakh house within 6 months of his transfer in Kathmandu Airport. Presently, he is a secretary in ministry.

Nagarik
Kudos for coming out with such a bold topic. We all should agree that we are the inherent subject of the land where we produce such leaders who are corrupt. It's not them, it's us. Let's take a look at ourselves and be honest about our situation. We should eradicate the belief that speaking against our own family makes you a bad son, it should be the opposite.
My family has no politicians except for my uncle (moms' side). Sadly (for most people) he was too honest and could not make the most use of his position, hence he was called "Lato" politicians. He gave up finally after being broke for many years. I'm proud of him though, but my family including my mom is very disappointed with him. By the way, he was a small government officer at my village.
But I do know many friends who's father are big time officers in KTM who, I can clearly say, are not qualified and are deep in corruption.
Let us come and open up. It's not wrong, but you're being a good citizen.

@Rewire:  People who hesitate to speak on these matters freely exhibit a sign of guilt.

Good people list:

1) My father: Preferred to remain in a low position in government but didn't engage in any activity harmful to the society.  BA, MA, LLB, P.hd. Salary: Rs. 8,000.  Six member of family lived in 1 BedRoom.  Although I always topped school, he couldn't afford to buy a bicycle for me.

2) My uncle: Who preferred to work as a farmer for his entire life but refused to join the league of corrupts.

PS: Their kids are their assets and we are doing extremely well compared to our peers.  Those parents who are corrupt, their kids become the cheapest commodity in the real market one day.

My grandpa was a panche...a panche who was totally against any form of bribes. I remember ministers getting frustrated with him because of his 0 tolerance policies. Even the ghyu that people would bring to our house would go back.
My sano uncle didn't follow his footstep.

Great Post. My father is a business owner and he always paid yearly taxes. My mother never hired an underaged village girl for no money because she did not believe in making an underaged girl work in the house 24/7 while her children enjoyed the school so she taught us to work in the house. I love her so much for that and she is the voice against child labor everywhere.

Well
My uncle was in government services his whole life. He was not associate to any political party. With his hard work he made through director level. He was also made CDO of a very (very ,very) rural district in Nepal.

My mom's uncle was different. I am not sure whether he took bribe or not. He is well educated, and engineer by profession. He is among the very few engineers of Nepal of that field. But with government salary, hmm few things does not make sense. One thing was sure, he misused the government vehicle a lot.

First generation to work.
Me and non of my brothers are working  for the government, nagarpalika or NGOs
My father and uncles are small farmers.
regarding my relatives
1. No body with the same family name have ever became minsters etc not even sachib.
2. No one with my  family name is leader in any political parties or memebr of central comittee of any political parties.
3. No one with the same family name is a big business men ( small khudra pasal i dont know)
4. The only guy with same  family name ( not my relatives though) who reached the highest position in govt was in 1993, where he became "saha sachib" and retired
5. No one with my family name is any kalakar (film actor/actress, geetkar, poet etc) this is based upon by rading of nepali newspaper since I was 13 till date)
6. No one with same  family name was leader in Pancha system.
7. No one with same family name served in royal palace.
8. No one with same family name was in rastra panchayet, and  memebr in any parliament there after.

Confess

When I was stydying in college in Nepal I had desire work for the govt , not to serve the people but to take bribe as much as I can and build big house and buy car. Unfortunatly after study I went abroad I believe this is what saved be from becoming a corrupt beuarocrat.

In the end

There are three "sahids" with the same family name in Nepalese History

Is the title of this thread misread?

I thought you are talking about corrupt people in your family, but you are writing the opposite.
or,
am I missing something?

pointless thread. anyone can come here and say that their uncle aunty hajurba hajurama bau ama whoever are/were corrupt when they know they can never be identified. i don't see much of a point esp when we don't know who these people are. nothing to have balls about.

@chanat tarkari and chaurey

Before answering the question one thought came in my mind “there are two types of honest ppl in this world"
1. Honest because they had no chance to become dishonest and
2. Honest because  they choose to be honest

So thinking those two points I answered the question by explaining the  background:  I wanted to say that my father , uncles and other relatives had no chance to do corruption because they were never in that position instead of claiming that my parents and relatives never part of any corruption. In my opinion real non-corrupt person is that who did not do any corruption even though he had chances to do so.
I also answered about myself. What I think at present about myself of the past??  I consider myself  as a  corrupt  in past because I had intention to do so ( may be it was my kachha budhhi, because I passed SLC when I was only 14.)
And, about myself of present : I consider a honest person because I have no intention of   any corruption even if I have chances of doing so  because a) I have a very good job b) I know how corruption can destroy entire country.

@sna

These days in so called “Naya Nepal” people are looking for identities, some claiming they are Janajatis some claiming they are the original inhabitants. Some group blaming others for present situation of the country. People asking for reservation for their kinds. So it was natural for me too to find out the situation of ppl with my family name. I was also surprised to know this outcome. Ppl with my family name live in Nepal, Bhutan and Sikkim, in Nepal we are spread over at least 10 districts and population is between 10-15 thousands. This is just an informal summary and I believe it is about 80% true. I have no means to make it 100%.

But based on these informal summary we are not claiming anything.

yet i don't  understand what to make out of this thread. if people were to be specific and post the names of their corrupt relatives then it would be a different story. right now it's just too vague, nobody knows who these accused corrupt people are, no evidence provided either, other than circumstantial evidences like building 60 lakh ko ghar in 6 month. when accusing someone there should be indesputable evidence to back up the claim. anyway it's just my opinion.

Good :
My dad, MA, BL and PhD resigned from government service as he was not promoted to Secretary even after working almost 10 years as Joint Secretary. The only reason was that he is not affiliated to any political parties. He was promoted to Under secretary and Joint secretary through the Lok Sewa Ayog (public service commission) competitive exams. As those exams are fair and impartial, no one could stop him in getting promotions. He took a leave -without-pay for 3 years to work in one of the south asian countries, made almost 300 k rupees a months. So, we did not face any scarcity in life. After self retirement, he is working in private/NGO with a good sum of salary.

Bad (?):
My uncle MA, BL, could not get a promotion to Under secretary as he has a third division in his MA and he was not able to pass the lok sewa exams either. Recently, he has become under secretary through an automatic promotions (swatah baduwa). He has worked most of his years in revenue offices, may be he is making some extra money as their living standard is just ok, not too lavish.
