I was robbed at gunpoint yesterday by three African American in Berkeley area. They pointed gun at me numerous time when I refused to give them anything. They escape in car with no nameplate number. I got scratches and swollen fingers along with bruises in my arms. There was one eye witness who followed the robbers for few blocks in the car and called 911. I gave the deskription of the thieves as much as I could remember. When offered medical help I thanked them and said I do not need. Now, it seems like I need it some medical attention. Can I still ask Berkeley police for it?

Do I need to report it to immigration office as a victim of crime?

Strong case for U-Visa which eventually gives you green card. Consult with good lawyer

If you need medical attention, go see a doctor not the Berkely police.

If you are working in cash do not approach the police as they will want yr work insurance to file any monetary damage, just tell the hospital you were helping yr uncle , If you are wanting a U visa tell them you want a U visa directly , don’t hint them indirectly , see a psycaitrist and record yr problems after the incident , but it all comes to the immigration officer asking for IRS tax file information , if you were working in cash than you ll be in a hell lot of problem trying to approach immigration benifits in this case.

Swami D.

Thank you for the suggestion. I work legally and have filed taxes. So, there won't be any problem with that. I was robbed just a block away from my workplace. I was helping SF police department when they were perusing them in sf but the thieves are still at large. I want to go to hospital , as well as, psychiatrist. However, I am worried about expenses. My police report shows they cover certain amount of monetary cost, lost wages... but I am not sure if I could still take that offer. I tried to contact Victim aid Information center, but they are always on voice mail.

Can I still go to hospital and visit psychiatrist then send the medical bill to the the police department, or was I supposed to go to hospital when the officer offered it?

If it qualifies certainly. Regardless, I would like to know, who would be liable for medial expenses?

Just go to the hospital yourself asap, they will send you a bill afterwards , send that to Police and do take whatever offer you get since you are legal nothing to worry. If no one helps you with your medical bill , negotiate to your Hospital, they will work and adjust it. sometimes you pay $ 0. Keep on helping police and save all the important details of the Incident & investigation. Consult an immigration lawyer after you get well about your chance of filing U Visas.

Hope this helps !!
