My parents (age 58-59) are visiting USA. They have high blood sugar and leg pain (knee part) if they walk longer than 30 min. They will bring their regular medicine dose. We might not need doctor visits, however, it might be better to collect some information about visitor health
insurance.

What is the regular rate of visitor health insurance, and what do they cover? If you have first hand experience, please share with us. I appreciate if you could share the details on shortcomings, limitation, drawbacks or disadvantages.

My parents went for a complete health checkup at Teaching hospital, Nepal a few months ago. All the reports were normal except for the known issues that they use regular medicines, and the doctors advised to continue the same medicines. Would it be different if I take them to a complete checkup here in USA? My medical experience in USA is not so impressive, I mean, the techniques, tools and treatments are more or less similar to what we get in Nepal. But, if there is some benefit for elderly people, I would like to give a try.

Most sate emergency treatment is not denied based on visa status. Check in Nepal if you can buy any visitors health insurance and can be treated.

Advised to have dental check too  if any  pain is there or loose teeth or some filings needed to be done. Ask to bring couple doses of antibiotic medicine with them in case needed, just to make sure the port of entry let it go easy, have a prescription or some note from the doctor.  Request wheel chair in Katm airport which makes easy for them during the travel.

dude, it usually cost 30-50 thousand nepali rupees. there are hundreds of such insurance provider in nepal these days, just talk to the agent that you got ticket of your parents from and he will bring it to you in no time!

I decided not to take that insurance when my parents visited me. when i investigated, i found:

1. my dad is diabetic - if anything happened as a side effect or directly related to diabetese....the insurance doesn't cover.

2. if my dad cut his fingure, usually diabetic takes long time to stop bleeding....blood lose because of long time bleeding...it will not be covered since it is the effect of being diabetic....meaning only the handiplaster will be covered.

3. my mom has high blood pressure....none of the event caused by high blood pressure will be covered....

i hope you understood.

but there are some other insurance company that will charge you hell lot of money, dont even think about it if you are not a millianaire in US,  that will cover everything.

Don't go for Nepali providers. They are unprofessional. Well, I should not say this, but that is what I felt because of many unpractical conditions like Radiohead mentioned.

Someone told my brother there is visitor health insurance for 3 months, full coverage at 10 thousands rupees.  Then my brother later found that the insurance is actually useless because they need you to have medical exam by their doctor beforehand, which will cost about 6000 rupees. They will not cover any complications caused by pre-existing troubles their doctors have in record, like diabetic symptom, high blood pressure, asthma etc. Then, why should one pay them if they are just covering minor problems like flu? Also, the health problems due to sport activity and traffic accident were excluded.

There are some US companies who cover 75 to 80% expense. It may cost you around 200 per month per person. You need to talk to them to make sure that they have their health care providers in your area. If you think, regular medicines would keep them healthy, you may not need this insurance.
