Thank you for these wonderful and historical pictures.
This is a moment to congratulate Nepali people for showing and proving “yes, we can†to the whole world and particularly to those Nepalis who can’t think anything good about Nepal, always are cynical, who laughed at the people’s movement, who still do not own and care about the Constituent Assembly.
A significant section of Sajha community belongs to that category.
I do hope these pictures inspire all of us and restore our faith in Nepal and Nepalis.
The constituent Assembly has paid a huge price of Nepali’s blood and tears to become a reality and a vehicle of Nepali’s dream.
Many people might not know or might have forgotten that when the Maoists formally proposed Constituent Assembly and a commitment to lay down their arms and participate in it during the second round of the first talk between them and Nepal government in September 2001, the total casualty of the war was just 1,800.
Can you imagine, Deuba, Koirala and MK Nepal rejected the proposal of Constituent Assembly and instead decided to launch a military operation against Maoist (of course after the talk broke and Maoist attacked a barrack) and we all know how many more Nepalis had to lose their lives, more than 12,000 !
If Deuba, Koirala Na MK Nepal had accepted the proposal of Constituent Assembly in September 2001, we could have saved more than 12,000 Nepalis killed since then.
Well, past is past. We can not undo it. However, we can build a saner and better future drawing lessons from the past mistakes and errors.
That’s exactly what we are doing and that’s what these pictures show.
So these are not ordinary pictures of an ordinary election. These are pictures of a moment of our national resolve for future.
"If Deuba, Koirala Na MK Nepal
had accepted the proposal of Constituent Assembly in September 2001, we
could have saved more than 12,000 Nepalis killed since then."
That is very true and I agree with you 100%.
The flaw arises in hoping that these Maoist still have the same mentality as they had in 2001.
The fact is that when they didn't get what they wanted, they turned to terrorism instead of other more peaceful methods. Once people become murderers, they change. They are not the same anymore.
Lets look at their murders. They murdered innocent people, teachers, poor villagers which only shows the ruthlessness they now characterize. If they had killed the politicians who were the main reason they had to start killing in the first place, 12,000 people would not have lost their lives. It's not like Nepali politicians have any security. It's not at all difficult considering the number of innocent people they killed.
The fact is that between 2001 and today, the Maoists have become murderers and extortionists. Even an animal turns carnivorous once it has tasted blood. These maoists have no respect for human lives anymore and they thrive on extortions and murders.
If you still have faith on these murderers then I suppose it's a wishful thinking. Only time will tell how you and many many others made a wrong choice believing that murderers can lead our nation in the right direction.
Kera Jasto. If Deuba, Koirala Na MK Nepal
had accepted the proposal of Constituent Assembly in September 2001, we
could have saved more than 12,000 Nepalis killed since then."
That is very true and I agree with you 100%.
Try not to live in Virtual World Dude. This thing is not coming up dude so JYANMARA maoist only.
My pragmatic position/wish regarding the Maoists is that they should neither be allowed to win a landslide victory nor be given a humiliating defeat. Maoist as a third or one third partner of the power would be an ideal situation for all of us in my view.
If you ask me my explanation, I will share it. However, at this point, it is probably sufficient to say that that is also because Nepali people just might have voted exactly like that.
What ordinary Nepali people collectively judge should be overriding to what we the extra-ordinary intellectuals judge and the moment has come.
So I will be waiting for the result to see how right/wrong I have been.
Very Well said Nepe! I wish there were more people like you in sajha for the judgement of the situation and to have a discussion. It's 100% true that Maoist has gone to the extreme in the essence of violence but let's not forget they are the one who demanded the election of constituent assembly from the beginning. They are the one who taught the people of lower cast and neglected from the society to rise. I don't think we would be having election for constituent assembly today if king has made M K Nepal or GP Koirala Priminister then. MK Nepal was willing to become anything to get the post of Priminister. I find it sad when i hear that the same party has big chance to become the biggest party in this election. I don't have big hope from Maoist either as they have started to talk big without weighing themselves. I will be surprised if they could grab 40 seats. What Nepali people want desperately at this time is peace for more than anything else and that's ain't going to happen until there's cooperation between these three parties. I hope Nepali People have given these three somewhat equal status.

Where are the monarchists of Sajha Kurakani who used to yell at Hulaki over the past several years in Goebels style that Maoists are “terroristsâ€, they are a “bunch of bad guys†and “don’t have popular supportâ€?

Mr Moriarty, when are you coming to Nepal to commit a suicide together with the royal thugs, Gyane and Parase??
The Pendulums of Delhi Durbar, whom the Nepalies call Lendup Dorjes are gone.
I congratulate all Nepalies and those who live and work in countries far away in this glorious day.
The Lendups lost the election, because they were not serious about the ill designs of the Indians. Nepalies have given a big blow to the Indian Establishment who wants to make Nepal a banana republic.
Nepalies want to be the Masters of their country and their Destiny.
Your PRN poster is actually an impostor (नक्कली प्रतिनिधित्व) of Maoist and what Nepali voters voted for.
PRN is long abandoned by Maoists, if you are not aware.
From the 12-points agreement with SPA to the recent commitment paper (Election manifesto) of Maoists, DRM (Democratic Republic of Nepal) and not PRN (People’s Republic of Nepal) is what the Maoists made a commitment with Nepali people and asked vote for.
So, you are either a fraudulent impostor of Maoist or a completely ignorant person.
Before you start believing or falsifying that Nepali people voted for the dead PRN, you might want to read the election manifesto of Maoist as a starter.
Nepe, You should also note that Baburam Bhattarai has always emphasized that Socialism is their ultimate goal, but for now they have to settle with bare minimum because of the resistance of various parties.
Socialism is a political hat anybody from Gordon Brown to Hugo Chavez can wear.
So it means nothing really.
Then, when one says “ultimate goalâ€, it’s always way too ultimate and nothing to worry about. I am sure the ultimate humanity will be somewhere along the ideals of socialism. However, I do not expect the humanity to reach to that point even in next 1000 years.
So the multiparty democracy is what the Maoists came to embrace and it’s gonna remain that way.
Hulaki bro is promoting the old anachronistic single party authoritarianism which our Maoists have already abandoned, at least since they came up with their modified doctrine of “Democracy for the 21st Century†(proposed in 2001, adopted in 2003).
Lately, Maoists are trying to define them somewhat as "socialist democrat" or "democrat socialist", however, they are not finding right terms yet and often use ambigious and confusing terms. However, there is nothing to be alarmed about that.
