I graduated from WSU a few years ago.I live in wichita. Even though I am not in school now, we have a Nepalese Students Association at WSU. Don't worry about her getting the basic help she needs.

This is totally non-judgemental query. So please take it with cool water: What makes particular schools attractive to prospective Nepali students? Is it because of ... ... easy and non-selective admission? ... low cost? ... snow ball effect, meaning there is already a critical mass of Nepalis in that school? It cannot be reputation, location or scholarships available because, let's be real, schools like WSU lack in all those three factors. (forgive me if you are WSU student or alum). How do the products of these school compare to those of more selective schools such as Bryn Mawr, Grinnell, Williams and Rochester?

In my opinion: Not everyone (prospective Nepali student) is smart (or resourceful) enough to go to the big-name schools. There are thousands of US schools that may NOT have enough of those 3 factors you mentioned. Of course, WSU is one of those. Yet, they are good enough for hundreds of thousands of students--both American and foreign. Since one can't attend all the schools at a time, one needs to find only one. Friends, cost, ads, on/off-campus jobs may be possible factors in decision making. I don't think it would be fair to compare a Harvard graduate with a WSU graduate. If you ask me, I graduated from WSU, got a job in Wichita, and am happy. To me that's all what matters.

It all depends on what was yur motive behind joining the school,,one could either land up in Boeing or continue with the pizza hut,,both are outcomes of the same institution,, Programs in aerospace and MBA there are top of the class,,that u cannot probably have in most of the US colleges..

That's right, 100% placement in last 3 years. Gwach is correct. WSU business and aerospace programs are considered good in the region.

I apologize if I have offended anyone. Besides the education, which is the prize in itself, one can probably judge the ROI of any college by how its graduates are doing in the real world. As mentioned above, Placement (though nature of placement can be debated) is one of those measures and it seems WSU is doing well by that criteria. Furthermore, WSU grads can and might be more successful than someone who graduated from Harvard. The name brands do open doors, but that's about it, one's performance actually paves the path, from initial interview to annual KPI evaluations, hoina ra? So in the long run, the playing field might be leveled automatically. Makes sense?

True. The big names let you start up high. Individual performance makes some difference in the long run. Like a lot of things in life, you try to make the best out of what you have. Why should anyone be offended?

Whoever said that students in WSU suffer lack of scholarships,,must be out of his mind..Most of my friends whom i know there were all under some of of assistantships,,TA ,,RA..Those who did not get it,,most of them as i know gave up on it even before they tried or approached any prof..or rather never considered it as a possible option. Anyway i did not have to spend a penny on my education there,,towards the end of my school over there 3 profs wanted me to be their TA at the same time. I guess if one can prove his worth,,everything works,,and of course now i am working amidst the colleagues from Cornell, UMN, Madison and .. it hardly made any difference that i was from WSU..

Hey guys, its nice to have discussion but don't mix up the topics. Please start a new thread. Let this thread be floating so that new-comers to Wichita State could get friends here. It'd be very helpful to them find roommates, quick wise suggestions to survive and finally to settle down. Hey DP, I know lots of WSU goers but not all. I'd be more than happy to assist any new comer to WSU ..... as much as I can. BTW, do I know you? And congratulations to me ....... I am graduating this semester with a local job offer. So, WSU ROCKS . As the thread is already mixed up let me add following section. ATTN New comers: Don't chose WSU for Computer Science, Physics. Business, Aerospace, Networking (within electrical departments) are the best departments. New CS students contact me .... there might be something waiting for a competitive student like you.
