NSU general convention disrupted

KATHMANDU, Aug 16 - The 10th General Convention of Nepal Students Union, the student wing of the Nepali Congress, that kicked off in Pokhara on Sunday has been disrupted following clashes between students and Gundas, who the students say were mobilized by the party establishment.
The fight reportedly started after the gundas pelted stones at student leader Gagan Thapa while he was criticizing the party establishment for publishing dubious names of NSU representatives outside the hall of Deependra Sabhagriha, the venue of the convention at around eleven this morning.

Of the eight contenders for NSU president, Thapa along with four other student leaders have accused the party establishment of conspiracy in publishing the names of representatives.

The Gundas, also tried to attack other student leaders including Pradip Paudel, Guru Ghimire, and the representatives of the convention, a participant of the convention told Kantipur Online from Pokhara over the phone.

Over a dozen general convention representatives were injured, some of them seriously, in the fight.

Later the agitated students vandalized the venue hall. They also torched four motorbikes. "The convention cannot take place now. Maybe the party will make an announcement to this effect later today," the participant said. "The gundas deployed by the party establishment had come fully prepared, laced with Khukuris, swords and rods.?

The closed session that was scheduled to start from Monday was postponed for today after confrontation erupted between the supporters of influential student leader Gagan Thapa and those loyal to the Nepali Congress leadership.

Polarization between the ?democratic republic? and ?constitutional monarchy? lines have surfaced strongly in the ongoing NSU convention.

Supporters of Thapa, former NSU general secretary, are of the view that the convention should endorse the proposal of republic. They have also charged the mother party of intervention in the selection of student leaders in the convention. (dds)

I guess if congress wants to survive and sustain as a major political party other leaders should rise and voice their concern against girija.. Actually girija is too old now, send him to sleep....

I am so happy this happened, it was bound to happen.

These so called political parties are all screwed up. No convention, no election can ever sanctify them. Its full of crooked criminals. The only way to form decent political establishment is to drain the decent persons out into another formation.

Therefore,

- things like this should happen.

- Gagan should dare to believe in the power of "janata". He won't be alone. He should split the party/nebisangh. He should go forward, this is the hot iron he should strike. All the decent Nepalese population will join him.

-Next, Narahari and et al will join him after they hold the convention of the Nepali congress because they have no other exit.

-Student wing of UML will also join them because they have nowhere else to go.

-Baburam Bhattarai and his supporters will join him. So, they will also have an army if needed.

-The other crooked mofos will gather under the umbrella of Gyanendra and paras, such as Girija, Deuba, Makune, Prachande, Khadke, Khume, Tulsi Giri so on, they might lead separate parties but they will make it public that they are indeed the very same alliance.

-Then, after a successful revolution, because the Gagan-group believes in decency and humanity and democracy, they will spare burning them alive like Taliban used to do, instead they will probably choose to try the criminals for crime against humanity.

-Nepal will be a cool country.

This used to be my "dream" until yesterday but now it seems to be getting towards reality.
Wow, its good news if Gagan has got a little of guts and a bit more of vision...

I can see clearly the heavy polarization in Nepali politics. I am happy for what happened in Pokhara. This gives new direction in Democratic Republic Andolon. This is just beginning though.

नेविसंघको महाधिवेशनमा हिंसात्मक झडप:

पोखरामा भइरहेको नेपाल विद्यार्थी संघको दशौं महाधिवेशनको तेस्रो दिन, मंगलबार, महाधिवेशन स्थलमा थप तनाव सिर्जना भई कुटपिट र तोडफोड भएपछि महाधिवेशनको कारवाही अगाडि बढ्न सकेन।
मतदाता नामावलीमा संघको संस्थापन पक्ष र असन्तुष्ट पक्ष बिचको सोमबार शुरू भएको विवाद झन् चर्केपछि निर्धारित कार्यक्रम हुन नसकेको हो।

मुलुकका विद्यार्थी शक्तिहरू आन्दोलनमा भएको समयमा भइरहेको महाधिवेशनको प्रमुख एजेन्डा नै संघको नयाँ नेत्तृत्व चयन र राजनैतिक सांगठनिक कार्यदिशा निर्धारण गर्नुरहेको थियो।

तर दुई पक्षमा विभाजित संघका विद्यार्थी कार्यकर्ताहरूले महाधिवेशनको बन्द सत्रमा बसेर विवादको छिनोफानो गर्न सकेनन्।

महाधिवेशन स्थल दिपेन्द्र सभागृहमा दुई पक्षका बिच भएको झडपमा निर्वाचन समितिका दुई सदस्य सहित झण्डै एक दर्जन विद्यार्थीहरू घाइते भएका थिए।

उत्तेजित समुहले सभागृहमा तोडफोड , तीनवटा मोटरसाइकलमा आगजनी गर्नुका साथै महाधिवेशनका कागजपत्रहरू फालिदिएका थिए।

यी घटनाका लागि नेपाल विद्यार्थी संगठनको संस्थापन र असन्तुष्ट पक्षले एक-अर्कामाथि दोषारोपण गरेका छन्।

नेपाल विद्यार्थी संघका महामन्त्री वासु कोइरालाले भन्नुभयो, "यसमा अधिवेशन बहिष्कार गर्नेहरूकै संलग्नता भएको जस्तो लाग्छ।"

तर असन्तुष्ट पक्षका नेता गगन थापाले भन्नुभयो, "बन्द सत्रमा मेरो राजनीतिक प्रस्ताव राख्?न नदिएकोले खुला ठाउँमा राख्दै थिएँ,त्यतिबेला ममाथि प्रहार भयो।"

नेपाली कांग्रेस समन्वय विभागका प्रमुख तथा नेपाल विद्यार्थी संघको महाधिवेशन हेर्ने पार्टी संयन्त्रका संयोजक दिलबहादुर घर्ती तोडफोडको घटनामा संघका विद्यार्थीको संलग्नता रहेको अस्विकार गर्नुहुन्छ।

श्री घर्तीले भन्नुभयो, "यो षडयन्त्र विद्यार्थीको तर्फबाट होइन, बाहिरी तत्वबाट भएको हो।"

महाधिवेशनलाई अगाडि बढाउने वा नबढाउने निर्णय लिन पार्टी संयन्त्रको बैठक बसेको थियो तर मंगलबार साँझसम्म पनि कुनै निर्णय बाहिर ल्याइएको थिएन।

पुर्व निर्धारित कार्यक्रम अनुसार मंगलबार निर्वाचन कार्यक्रम सम्पन्न गरि महाधिवेशन समाप्त गरिने योजना थियो।

संघको यो विवादले आन्दोलित विद्यार्थी शक्तिलाई मात्र होइन स्वयं राजनीतिक दलको आन्दोलनलाई पनि प्रतिकुल असर पर्ने टिप्पणी पर्यवेक्षकहरूले गरेका छन्।

गैरजिम्मेवार प्रवृत्ति

भ्रातृ संगठन नेपाल विद्यार्थी संघको दसौं महाधिवेशन तल्लो दर्जाको कुटपिट, तोडफोड र जगहँसाइपछि स्थगन नेपाली कांग्रेसकै लागि सर्मको विषय हो । आफूलाई प्रजातन्त्रको पर्याय ठान्ने पार्टीको भ्रातृ संगठनमै प्रजातान्त्रिक प्रक्रियाको यो लज्जास्पद हविगतले संघका कार्यकर्ता र नेतृत्वको अराजक एवं अप्रजातान्त्रिक चरित्रमात्र उजागर गरेको छैन, कांग्रेस नेतृत्वको अकर्मण्यता, कुटिलता र तानाशाही प्रवृत्ति पनि उजागर गरेको छ । संघमा निर्वाध प्रजातान्त्रिक प्रतिस्पर्धालाई प्रेरणा दिनुको सट्टा सुरुदेखि नै ँटीकाप्रथा? मा जोड दिएर लोकतान्त्रिक आन्दोलनका स्वयम्भू अगुवा एवम् पार्टी सभापति गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालाले समेत आफ्नो अप्रजातान्त्रिक चरित्र सार्वजनिक गर्नुभएको छ ।
नेविसंघमा कुनै बफादारलाई टीका लगाएर अध्यक्ष बनाउने कुटिल प्रयास असफल भएपछि तनावग्रस्त महाधिवेशनस्थललाई ँभगवान्को कृपामा? छोडेर कोइराला गृहनगर विराटनगर पलायन हुनु गैरजिम्मेवार प्रतिक्रिया थियो । आफ्नै कार्यकर्तालाई विश्वासमा लिन नसक्ने बरु अँध्यारा कुनाबाट गोटी चाल्ने यो प्रवृत्ति र कोइरालाले उठाएको प्रजातन्त्रको झन्डामा कुनै सामन्जस्य छैन । अझ उहाँले विराटनगरमा ँनरहरि आचार्य र गगन थापा दरबारले परिचालन गरेका पात्र भएको? अप्रमाणिक त्यसैले अशिष्ट र आपत्तिजनक ँरहस्योद्घाटन? गरेर अराजनीतिक र गैरजिम्मेवार चरित्र अझ उदांगो पार्नुभयो ।

आचार्य पछिल्ला दस वर्षदेखि कांग्रेसको केन्द्रीय सदस्य हुनुहन्छ र कोइराला त्यति नै समयदेखि सभापति रहँदै आउनुभएको छ । आरम्भमा कोइराला आफैंले उहाँलाई राजनीतिक संरक्षण र प्रोत्साहन दिएको तथ्य जगजाहेर छ । त्यसैले सोध्न सकिन्छ- यतिका समयसम्म आफ्नै केन्द्रीय कमिटीमा ँदरबारिया? लाई ससम्मान पदमा रहन दिनुका पछाडि कोइरालाको के बाध्यता थियो ? यता थापा नेविसंघका विभिन्न सिँढी चढ्दै केन्द्रीय उपसभापति र महामन्त्रीसमेतको जिम्मेवारी निर्वाह गरिसकेका विद्यार्थी नेता हुन् । कोइरालासँग उनी दरबारिया भएको प्रमाण छ भने आजसम्म किन यस विषयमा स्पष्टीकरण सोध्ने र कारबाही गर्ने प्रक्रिया अघि बढाइएन ? पार्टीमा ँयति ठूलो घूसपैठ? हुँदासम्म कोइरालाले के हेरेर बस्नुभयो र अहिले यी दुईले लोकतान्त्रिक गणतन्त्रका पक्षमा सार्वजनिक अडान लिएपछि मात्र उहाँलाई ती ँदरबारिया? भएको तत्त्वबोध भयो ?

नेतृत्व केवल सत्ताको गणितज्ञ भएर पुग्दैन । उसँग विचार, चरित्र, नैतिकता, संयम र विवेकको पुँजी पनि हुनुपर्छ । आफ्नो पदको गरिमा जोगाउनु कोइरालाको नैतिक र राजनीतिक दायित्व हो । कांग्रेसको सभापति केवल एउटा व्यक्ति होइन, त्यसको प्रत्येक अभिव्यक्तिले संस्थागत अर्थ राख्छ । आफ्नै केन्द्रीय सदस्य र विद्यार्थी नेतालाई यति गम्भीर दोषारोपण गर्नुअघि उहाँले प्रमाण पेस गर्नुपर्छ कि पर्दैन ? कोइरालाको छवि एउटा यस्तो नेताको छ, जो बफादारी माग्दैन, खोस्छ । उहाँ यस्तो नेता मानिनुहुन्छ, जसलाई विधान, नियम र आन्तरिक प्रजातन्त्रको कुनै पर्वाह छैन । उहाँ पार्टीलाई परिवार होइन, परिवारलाई पार्टी मान्ने नेता भएको धेरैको गुनासो छ । वैचारिक रूपमा आफूभन्दा भिन्न र सांगठनिक रूपमा पृथक् अस्तित्व बनाएका आचार्य र थापाप्रति उहाँको यो लाञ्छनामा एउटा प्रजातान्त्रिक नेता होइन, त्यो नेताभित्रको तानाशाह बोलिरहेको छ । कोइरालाले या यथाशीघ्र यो आरोपलाई पुष्टि गर्न सक्नुपर्छ या सार्वजनिक रूपमा माफी माग्दै भविष्यमा यस्तो नहुने प्रतिबद्धता व्यक्त गर्नुपर्छ । नत्र उहाँको छवि अझ ध्वस्त हुनेछ, उहाँको विश्वसनीयता अझ खस्कने छ र कसैले पनि उहाँलाई गम्भीरतापूर्वक लिने छैन ।
