Year 1-
Prof: What's ur major?
Me: Undecided....

Year 2-
Prof: So have you thought of any major?
Me: Undecided.....

Year 3-
Prof: Ma....?
Me: Undecided.....

Sometimes, I wonder if I'll major in UNDECIDED..... I m almost in year 3 n i still don't know what i want to do in my life; what major i ought to be taking.....

R u guys going through this phase as well? what yr r u in? what's ur major? what majors r good in Business?

Talk 2 me, folks......

P.S: since this is HUMOR section... here's one.... .
A panda goes to a resturant and orders a whole lot of food. When done eating, the panda shoots the waiter and prepares to leave. That's when the resturant manager asks the panda, "Hey, but u haven't paid yet?"
The Panda replies, "Look up for the word PANDA in the dictionary...."
Puzzled, the manager hurries through the dictionary until he reaches the word Panda. The dictionary reads "Panda: Asian bear that eats shoots and leaves."

what the hell! I have already graduated and in graduated school and i am still undecided. There are thousands like that. Few months ago I ran into this professor who's been teaching for thirty years, even he's confused and undecided about life. The key is........if you knew everything you wanted to do today, life would actually be boring.....its those subtle unpredictability and anxiety that keeps the life fairly exciting hoina ta? natra ta life is dead serious yo! If you still want to choose a major, try business! one of my friends told me that if you can't decide on a major, you should choose business, cause its never a loss! there.

oys i agree! I know exactly what i want to do and that's why my life is sooooooo boring ke! :) :) but i don't think that relax singh should choose his/her major as business cause business is just boring ke and plus if you think about it - if you major in business then you would go to work and do nothing ke while if you major in something that will make everysingle day that you go to work worth going to then you'd feel like you did something when you get home from work everyday! I know this doctor and he majored in Business but then he realized that that's not what he wanted to do so he went back did his undergrad all over again and went to medical school to become a doctor. :) :) so he basically wasted like 6 years of his life and plus relax singh if you're 3rd year in college you must be interested in something! :) :)

PS: hope you're not interested in business! (wink, wink)

relax
business major is not as bad as they say it is.
i am graduating this may in management.
look for what your school offers.
if they have good faculty for production and operation management ( which i doubt) take those classes coz thats gonna be the management system of the future.
you can major in good old fashioned business administration and take operation mgmt in masters level.
good luck
dont worry it took me 5 years to graduate so you still have long way to go

Waitin', watchin' the clock, it's four o'clock, it's got to stop
Tell him, take no more, she practices her speech
As he opens the door, she rolls over
Pretends to sleep as he looks over
She lies and says she's in love with him, can't find a better man
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can't find a better man
Can't find a better man
Can't find a better man

nails, how long is a piece of string?

Business major has its own aroma of interesting happenings as any other degree IMHO; I suppose Relax has to choose what interests him/her the most. But, I would never say business is boring- the Doc that nails describes should know; if he doesn't have a private practice he's probably a part of HMO or some healthcare network which are mostly controlled by the business professionals.

Relax, if you are good with numbers- mainly stats, know Excel like the back of your hand, can interpret numbers (quantitative) into words (qualitative) when you read financials (i.e. balance sheet, cash flows), earned an A in intermediate econ and accounting subjects then I say business world awaits you...

Try asking a business major who's a consultant @ Booz Allen Hamilton, McKenzie, BCG, etc. or an I-Banker @ JP Morgan, Bear Sterns, Robertson Stephens, etc. whether they 'major(ed) in something that makes every single day worth going to work'....

Business- it opens doors...mine led to software engineering (make your own assumptions)

I am in my third year, and I am on the same boat.

Even then life is boring. I can't imagine how much boring would it be if I knew what I wanted to do.

Hey..... good to hear ur comments on this.... i probably shouldn't be saying this, but it's comforting to know others r going thru this as well, esp.. OYS- already in grad sckool n still undecided...... i agree when u say "if you knew everything you wanted to do today, life would actually be boring.....its those subtle unpredictability and anxiety that keeps the life fairly exciting hoina ta?" ... but it'd be gr8 to know what u want out of life, rite, like some ppl do. I wouldn't wanna take up some major now, and then 10 yrs down the line end up regretting the decision.......

anyway, NAILS, unfortunately or fortunately, i m already knee deep in the business world. have already taken all pre-biz classes, just hesitating on the remaining 36 credits... but then it's not too late for me as comp. 2 ur fren, but i wouldn't want to start all over again.... that'd suck big time.....

PEARLJAM....i m thinking about Marketing, Managment or Int'l Business as my options...
but i don't really know what the job prospects for these fields are for int'l students, i know it's different for int'l students. .. so, some suggestions would be appreciated ...JAVABEANS....

i m sure i share this feeling with a lot of ppl- " i'd like to get H1B after graduation," but i don't quite know what particular area in Business has better job opportunities.......

So, some good suggestions from after-grad-job-searching ppl with first-hand experience about it all would be highly appreciated....

redstone, I'm glad you asked...

It all started with a finance-related internship; soon, I was into consulting. Too broad I thought then started concentrating in IT sector since my emphasis was in info sys (with a BS in business). Quite fascinated by clients buying software that is half-baked I realized there is more to be done. Soon, I was taking vector calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, thermal dynamics and most importantly discrete maths, predicate calculus, etc. in order see if I still got the guts to be an engineer (2/3 of the subjects didn't have anything to do with CS albeit I had taken some intro CS courses as an undergrad- overly motivated is the phrase). I did well in them to my surprise and then started out teaching myself advanced CS- thinking it ain't enough I enrolled for a MS Soft Engr degree and graduated a couple of yrs ago (paid half by employer and worked part time during the degree). Now into anything J2EE which I mostly develop and consult on...

If you must know it's a private soft dev company specializing in 'Web Services' located somewhere in the southern hemisphere (sorry can't tell you the name) ...I did however intern for that consulting company Enron used to schmooze so well with (they changed the name a couple of yrs ago)- their consultants aren't the brightest!

What's ur story ?

:)

Well I thought maybe I'll drop in my story:

I guess I have realized the differences between liberal arts and other colleges and have gone through a lot of transition over the past three and a half years. At times I too have seriously questioned myself and my college life. What to seek from it? If I was at home I would probably have taken up Architectural Engineering or Civil. But in the states things have changed a bit.

I did start out by taking sciences and maths but then slowly transitioned into arts. Now I am graduating this May, with a BA in Visual Arts. My thesis is based on Cezanne's work and majority of my plan is painting. I am also doing some architectural designing and a paper on Art History. I don't specifically know what lies ahead after I graduate, but have plans of doing architectural interships and eventually going to Arch. Grad. school.

What is necessary, I think, is to find that balance between interest and functionality. A degree field without interest is no fun even with loads of money pouring out from it, so you do have to do what makes you happy, but know your boundary.

Best of luck to all.
