If you consider the whole universe with different galaxies (milkyway being only one of them) then there has to be life on some other planet. I mean we have not even discovered what lays on the planets in our own galaxy, how would we know about the situation, atmosphere OR the beings that live in the planets in some other galaxy? When you think about it, there has to be another galaxy that has a planet at a certain proximity to a star, just like earth is at a certain proximity to the sun, which does favor the existence of life. And I read somedays back that there was some Cyclic hydrocarbons found in the space which also consisted of some Nitrogen, which is the basic structure for life and also the main foundation for the DNA. If DNA is found somewhere in the universe, then it is most likely that there is a certain kind of living structure up in space (or rather if DNA was discovered we would be sure that there is something alive up there). It could also be possible that they have some other way of carrying their genes or whatever they use for their hereditary character rather than the DNA. There are thousand possibilities but no proof!

yeah it was on NOVA they were talking specifics how lighting gets created. It was pretty interesting. I thought +ve and -ve charge created lightning. But there is more to than that. They were talking about Gamma rays that get sent through the galaxies that map the shape and form of lightnings. And those Gamma rays are pulse sent from all the different galaxies of stars being born and dying. Which sorta reminded me of the whole Idra and his Vajra. Maybe its is the higher up who is sending this charge to create life. Dunno that thought just crossed my mind thats all.

yesterday, NOVA featured an awesome program on the origins of life. this has become a hot topic because the christian fanatics in the white house are marketing "intelligent design" as a complement to /replacement for the theory of evolution. i could not watch the full show because i had some stuff to do. anyway, a couple of scientists were saying that life begins when the right amount of certain chemicals under conducive conditions is present. once the desired conditiosn are achieved, the bio-chemical-physical reactions takes care of the rest. the scientisits pretty much said that life exists when these chemical reactions exist. (on a different note, consciousness, some claim is simply the presence of huge amounts of neural/electrical activity). well, if this is indeed the case, then creating life is not as difficult as it may seem. given that earth has been around for 4B yrs and life on earth has existed for 2.5B yrs, and that beings like us, who can compose symphonies, construct engineering masterpieces, and question our very existence have evolved from nothing but a primordial soup of nitrogen, carbon and oxygen, it does seem like in the universe that's been around for 20B (??) yrs, somthing must have happened elsewhere too... in the movie "Contact" (based on carl sagan's work), the astrophysicist played by jodie foster says, "well the universe is certainly a huge place" (or something to that effect) when a kid asks her if there are other forms on life.

- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_design the basic assertion is that God, not natural selection, guided our evolution. yea, most scientists think that these fanatics are cookoo. a slight correction - not all right wingers are christian fanatics.

a slight correction - not all right wingers are christian fanatics. I am not buying that one Zalimsingh.I think all the right-wingers are christian fanatics.Unless they belong to some other belief system supported by absolutism.Thats a fundamental mind-set.

The story about the Lightning particularly caught me because you know the significance of Vajra in both Hindu and Buddhist religions. Makes me wonder were our ancestors on to something that modern science is not aware of ? They took X-rays of these gamma ray patterns at the inception of lightning. Hmmmm..... And the story about indra being able to use his Vajra at his will .....Is anybody out there ? Koiii Chaa ?? hellooo he he

Izen, did you watch the same shows in Discovery, History and other educational channel that I watched last week? LOL... I saw the program on "are we alone", "Did we really landed on the moon", sangri_la and other topics you have mentioned last week or week before... LOL I think we are alone... What I think might not be what I really believe in, but I think we are unique. Or at least, until the day they really find a lifeform in some other planet, I'd love to think we are alone. Doesn't that make you feel special? :D YOU are the Unique Lifeform from the Unique Planet Called Earth. :P You are Very special. hah... go brush now re kyaa... aina herera...

Are we alone?Shangrila?...ha-ha Hey was there a series called "Is there an end to the suffering?".If there was I suspect my brain was having an intercourse with the program-director of discovery channel.Well, that's scary.Isn't it? But thanks for the info.
