Well the first thing you need is determination. I used to be a smoker, I thought I will quit and that was it.

there is one website that really helps whyquit.com

Sometimes it was very hard other times it was okay.  you may also have to change your life style.

Let me know if you need more help.

It's not easy but not unheard of either.

I'm just glad that I'm a complete non-smoker.

I cant exactly suggest  what is good for you. However, this is what i did for myself:
  • share your quitting plan (I told my brother/sister/close friends that I was going to quit smoking.  Furthermore, I also asked my friends not to smoke.)
  • dedicate your quitting habbit to someone/yourself (I dedicated it to my mother)
  • plan a date to quit smoking. (I quit smoking since may 3rd 2011 ( ama ko moukh herne din).  But I told my mom after 3 months that I quit smoking. That felt so good)
  • when you plan a date ( suppose after 1 week), start reducing your # of cigarettes from today so that it will be easy for you to quit from the start date.
  • Be in smoking free zone. If your friends are smoking ( may be outside the room, club etc) , avoid those circumstances and dont go near to them. I know its difficult to avoid friends but you should stick with your plan.
  • Once you fix the date. Dont ever tocuh the cigarette. Throw you cigarete packets lighters and associated stuffs.
  • Join gym, sporting activity etc
NOTE:
- stick with your plan and remember your promise, your family/closed friends.
- Once you quit smoking never touch the cigarette again.

Background:
  • I started smoking 11 years ago. Initially light smoker, just for fun.
  • I was trying to quit cigarette since last 1 year. For the last 1-2 years, I smoked 1 Pack+ cigarette per day

@TheAryan07, this is how I quit it. You gotta remember one mantra " ONE DAY AT A TIME". The biggest hurdle was when you are with your friends drinking. But you can do it. I did it why can't you?

I found that it helps if you don’t have pressure as pressure equals stress and stress will trigger cravings. So....choose a long weekend and get some zaiban (quit smoking drug). Zaiban makes you drowsy and wanna sleep, and sleep you will for the next three and a half days. Make sure that you are not under pressure and carry on with your life coolly. Week one will be very hard. Second, will seem as hard. Third, might have a little relief, but with some temptation especially when you see someone smoke. So avoid the usual smoke joints. A couple of months and still you will get tempted. I am free for 2 years and still there are times when I feel like it and I use cloves.

But now i smoke like half a pack but still its too much. i have my roommate who used to smoke like me but he quit but i could not. i been trying a lot n lot of times stopped carrying it with me but couldnt control it n ended up with asking ciggaratte from customer and smoke.

Nothing helps but determination. Some kind of motivation is needed. This is my Personal experience and opinion. I was smoker and tobacco user for almost 14 years. When my son was 2 years old I thought that I should be quit for him. It happened just like that I quit I threw the packet that I have, vow to myself and quit. After that I smoked one or two here & there. Completely been non smoker for two and half years now. My suggtestion throw the one you have never buy another pack refuse if someone offers you. Do not go near if someone is smoking for time being  till you lose the urge to smoke mentally. But you have to quit physically.

न पेट भर्ने न झ्याप हुने बेकार  पैसाको सत्यानाश

I hope it helps

Fool proof method:

1) Only buy the brands that you hate the most, you will want to smoke less.
2) Publicly declare to everyone you meet that you've quit smoking. That will help you quit since if you do smoke it makes you look weak or like a liar
3) If you get an urge go, and walk briskly for 5 mins and get back to what you were doing. Sometimes we just need to get away from what we're doing to relieve stres
4) Slowly reduce your intake until you're down to 3-4 to 1-2 a day then quit cold turkey.
5) Avoid getting too drunk, you'll want to smoke. Stay away from your homies for a while.

 The Aryan07@

Congratulations on taking the first step to becoming tobacco free . It's a great step in a long-tem goal improving your livelihood.
I was a great tobacco consumer for nearly 17 years and recently quit it. As understood, do not begin the march if you are not well prepare to handle the craving and not "STRONGLY" determined.

There might be zillion way people might suggest you ways of quitting. However, here I want to share my experience.

1. Begin quit therapy, this can be available in many hospitals around US and most of the time its covered under your health care. Inquire your health care provider and health insurance company. (This is where you begin).

2. If you are covered, well, you are on a good hands. Visit the health care and say I want to begin quit smoking program. Rest will follow in the consultant's suggestion.

3. If you are not covered and you have to chip from your pocket then, begin using quit-help product like nicorrettee lozenges, nicorettee gum, and nicorettee dermplast. http://www.nicorette.com/?google=b_&rotation=2521&banner=18588&kw=305491
I began my quit step by using these product and here I stand. Tobacco free guy, after 8 weeks of therapy. However, my fees were covered under health insurance and did not pay a penny. This webpage can provide you tons of ways to use the product to effectively quit smoking and really they are productive. Also, comparable cheap product can be found in the market to help you reduce cost of therapy. You just have to explore them (such as rightaid.com; kroger.com; equate.com to name a few)
Personally, I overcame the craving using these product from the first day I begin using them. These are awesome product and I recommend them to everyone in a habit of smoking.dipping.

Few more tips to help you quit:

Exercise regularly
. Walking is a great way to reduce the stress of quitting. Some exercise every day improves mood and energy levels and helps prevent weight gain. Drink lots of water to clean the nicotine out of your body.

Wait out cravings. Urges for a taste of smoke/dip usually last 1-2 minutes. Take a few deep breaths, go for a walk or have a healthy snack like an apple or sunflower seeds. Do something else with your hands and before you know it, the craving will have passed.

Identify rationalizations.  If you are thinking, “I’ll just have one more smoke/dip to get through finals, this paper (insert your stressor)” or “just one won’t hurt,” recognize it as a message that can derail you. Remind yourself of your reasons for quitting.  Take a warm shower, do something active, and reward yourself for not smoking.

Talk to a support person. Ask family, friends and roommates for their help. Having someone who will listen to you or go for a walk with when you need encouragement will help give you a boost.

Avoid high-risk situations. Know your triggers and stay away from people, places and situations that tempt you to smoke/dip.  Drink less or stay away from alcohol. Drinking alcohol often makes people want to smoke. Drink water, juice or soda instead.

Simply put: you are better off without another smoke/dip. You will feel better about yourself, and be healthier and richer!

Hope this help you be a tobacco free person. Good luck

मन दह्रो बनाउने अनि तलतल लागेको बेला मन माथि ढुंगा राख्ने  ( It is hard to quit, tried many years  , just quit as cold turkey)
