 Hello Guys,

I was offered a "pre-selected" citi card and had a good credit score.
I applied with the hope that I would get good limit-- they only gave me a thousand $ limit.
I am not sure if I should activate this card.

I think the hard inquiry they did to issue my card might already have impacted the score by few bits.
Does it matter to my credit score if I do not activate this credit card (because the limit is so less)?

Thanks!

you sound like you are getting your first credit card.

if thats correct, 1000 is still a good limit for a beginner.

if this is the case, just take the offer

Yes, Your credit score has already been impacted.
"Activation" of credit card just means that "you've actually received the card".
Your account is already open. If you check you credit report, it should show it as open account already. It doesn't matter whether u activate it or not.

I got $300 credit limit on my first credit card. I think $1000 is decent amount for first card.

Thanks guys.

The trouble is that it is not my first credit card. I already had a credit card from them (few years now). They just happened to offer me one and I took it.
My credit score was also not bad (above 715). That made me wonder why they offered only 1000.

I was expecting that they would offer more than $1000.

Bro: Just sign up for the cards that you need. If you don't need the card/credit, don't take it. Just some prudent credit advice... anyatha nalinu hola...

Once you applied, why don't you activate the card. Activation will not affect your credit score. You may have the option of credit line increase request after some time if you need more credit limit.

Well, bit of a problem everyone has, credit limit. I would suggest you go ahead and call citi to close the account if you really don't want to keep it. Keeping the card and not activate it is not a solution. You better check in with the bank because no matter where you hide your card, they might automatically activate it. So beforehand, talk to the Bank, tell them you don't want to keep the card. Trust me, it won't affect that much on your score. But if you hadn't had way too many accounts, it is wise to keep that card(find out if it carries hidden fees like annual fees or something) because it will increase your spending power. And it's true that high credit score doesn't always lead you to higher limits. Use it wisely and you'll see automatic increase on your credit line. Good Luck.
