I had seen lot of threads mentioning that I will be going Nepal after 1-10 months. I am just wondering if any one had gone Nepal within this couple years or are planning to go Nepal in coming years. Let me start counting or it is just for hoax.

Many of my friends have gone back and have already started working...if you really want to go back and if you think you will be able to find a job then you should not hesitate. After all there is no place like home. But it all depends on your background if you are in a technical field then it might not be easy to find a job...so you might wanna think twice...but if you are in policy or economics or other related field then you will be able to find jobs in NGOs INGOs, world bank, UN and so on...so it all depends....but i would say one should do whatever makes one happy...

But in nepal I think majority of ppl have Masters Degree who are looking for jobs. (because you are always encouraged to finish up your education before you go full fleged into the job market). TU/ KU/PU have good masters program so ppl are attaining Masters degree are more then before. I dont think they will give more preferance to you just because you have returned from US. Therefore nowadays even the entry level jobs may require Masters Degree w/experience. So its advisable to finish up masters degree to land up good jobs if you are thinking to go back home.

I thnk the value of a Masters Degree is more in Nepal then here in US.

there is no such thing like career or social status in the U.S as an immigrant. you'll enjoy your life fullest in Nepal... and you'll prosper too. it doesn't make any sense to immigrate to any country if you're not starving or literally dying in your country. i'm going back soon.. see u in Nepal my friends..

Congrats for having masters degree from both countries. ..i was just trying to warn u againt ppl who are totally patrioatic and generally have an attitude like "so u think u came from US and you think u are better than us"...I dont think education here is any better than in Nepal. In Nepal the professor does all the work...here the professor makes us do all the work ... the valuable thing u learn here is the life lessons which i am sure we both agree is the most important education. ...good luck in whatever u do!

As most of you suggest, you should be very mindful of what you want to do.  It is not easy to take these drastic steps, esp. if you have a family/house etc involved.  In my case i know people in Nepal who know ppl and they know ppl.  I went for couple of interviews but was very discouraged by the employers.  Pay was around (~60k Rs/month to begin) and according to them life is great but would not be worth the change at the moment with the instability, terror, fear and red tapes

Life is not like we see in Partynepal, you have to be ready to deal with load shedding, you have to bribe to pay your bills, constant fear, bandhs etc.  You will miss the simple amenities you take here for granted...e.g laundry, parking, insurance etc.  may be I will go back and try again but for some who go to Nepal for 2/weeks or months as a guest and think life will stay that way are in total denial.

Just to add if you work diligently here you will succeed even if you are not the brightest from the bunch.  You will find your niche here.  I love Nepal miss everything about Nepal but i am equally satisfied here.  I have my options open and who knows what can happen.....

I agree with mucho_fiesta....

However, I guess one will get used to the load shedding and shortage of water ...Whenever I have gone home over the summer vaccation it was hard for me to adjust for first few days but later on I just got used to load shedding and water shortage co;z I have lived in that same environment for so many years before I came here ...However the major problem is instability and insecurity...it is hard to live with a constant fear of Nepal bandha and so on...

I think if you do your masters and go back then you will have a better chance of getting a job back home. But I must say you have to have connections otherwise it is hard to find a job

I disagree that there is no career as an immigrant here in US because there are so many people who have good career and are doing extremely well. It depends on your education level or work experience or both. If you work hard nothing can stop you here..

But my only concern is even if we do welll in terms of our career and we earn lot of money..will we be happy here? Is that all we want from our life...money cannot buy all the happiness atleast that;s what I believe and that;s what I follow...I think true happiness comes from being together with your family and friends.

I also disagree that education system in Nepal is better than US. Yes in Nepal professors do most of the work but it does not benefit students in terms of learning. In Nepal we have a passive learning environment which does not help students in the long run. In US it is more practical and students do most of the work and also they learn much more by doing all the work. I strongly believe that the education system of Nepal should be reformed. Anyways this thread is not for this topic so may be we can discuss how we can reform education system in a different thread.

Sorry for writing too much!!! I hope everyone does what makes them happy!!!

I can deal with parking, loadshedding and laundry problems but its very hard to deal with frequent bandha and the way government disregard  human life. Asti jabo jhadapakhala lagera ta 300 jana ley jyan gumaye. yesto news sunda chahi sarai dikka lagcha ani confuse huncha k garney K

I was able to deal with a lot of them on regular basis but when you have to live through it - it’s a different story.  To think you can take high road each time on sajha is unreal.  I know few neps from US who have settled there but the kind of job they have and the reason they settled is a whole new topic.

But for a medium to good job wala person with family and few connections in Nepal is a battle.  Can it be done? High sacrifices but can be done...

I think wherever you are just be happy and learn to share - do whatever makes you happy. In the US you have sons/daughters of people who are multimillionaires in Nepal and millionaires by US standard and there are people who come and make it here on their own.

US is the only country in the world I think that lets you be who you are.  You can make your little Nepal here if you wanted.  You get the most opportunity here to do whatever you want so if you are here love it here and when you decide to go back leave it on a good note and love it there.....

i know a few people who actually returned after their education or after working for few years.  However, the number is very small compared to the number of nepali students coming to USA these days.  Number of students coming here almost reached 9000 per yer now.

I agree with one of the above posts that it is good to have higher degree if one really wants to go to Nepal and do something for country and society.  having an undergraduate degree is enough in USA for most of the jobs and people gain experience and value experience.  however, in case of Nepal, they love higher degrees.

Further,  i also agree with someone above who wrote, it may be better for those who have degree in social sciences/business to go back so that they can get jobs in different NGOs, INGOs, and banks rather than those with technical degrees.  It is not easy to find job here in social sciences and business if you dont have a degree from really good school, however it is fairly easy for one to find a job in technical field here in USA.  In addition, i heard that banking sector, NGOs, and INGOs pay pretty descent salary in Nepal, while entry level salary for science/engineering graduates is not attractive at all.

Regarding other issues such as banda, shortage of water and electricity, people will manage to live in such environment since we all came from same environment just a few years ago.  I would worry more about job and security over these issues.

Also, if someone wants to return, s/he has to make decision quickly after compliting education.  In my opinion, it will be difficult to return back due to various reason if one stays here longer.
