Carixma, can you clarify a little more. There are a few things that could have happened. You say your phone was jail broken, were you using it with t-mobile? If that's the case than your phone got locked once you updated the phone with a newer version. Anytime, you update your Iphone it will lock it so it can only be used with ATT. Again from what I have heard (not sure because I have never tried it), once it gets locked you can't use the wifi or other features unless you have ATT. The only other way to start using your wifi is to either sign up with ATT or have it jail broken again.

Have you tried different routers? Some particular routers, have compatibility issues with the iPhone, so you might want to try a different Wi-Fi network to see if it works. Also, like the previous user said if your iPhone, is jailbroken, you cannnot update it - unless, it's a jailbroken version itself. Try resetting your network settings again, and see if it helps out. The other option would be resetting your iPhone all together - and possibly, doing a fresh install.

My iphone was jailbroken and unlocked. I was using with T-mobile for like 3 weeks. It was working perfect then all of a sudden last week my wireless of my house was not detected by my iphone. other Laptops in that networking are working fine. I tried resetting, I updated my software to 2.2. I have not unlocked or jailbroke after that. But still wifi should work right?? but it dectects wifi for like 20 seconds but after i open safari... wifi just dissappears.
I don't know.. its a brand new iphone.. should not be a hardware issue. Or may be my router is not compatible with iphone. I have a 2004 netgear router.

Carixma I have heard some people say that their phones wifi worked fine even without a service but for some it hasn't worked. I am not sure why this happens as people give various reasons. There is one thing you could try with your wifi settings. Delete the network from your iPhone's wifi settings by clicking on that
blue arrow icon on the right of the network name. Then click on forget
this network. Go to your wireless router
and perform a restart. Turn off the iPhone and turn it back on. Go back
to the wifi settings and reselect your network and you should be good.
Essentially restart both devices and add the iPhone as a new connection. If your phone hasn't been completely locked (i.e. you can use some of the features) the above step should resolve it. If its been completely locked you will need to jail break it.

I had a same issue too then I took it to apple store and since i have at&t and the phone was still under apple's warranty, they replace my phone with new one. they said said it is hardware issues and couldn't be fixed there. The problem you have said here is exactly what happen to my phone too so i'm sure it is same issue with your too. Good Luck

carixma, iphone supports Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) only. Did you change your wireless settings to 802.11a on your home router? I would try connecting to different Wireless Access Points too. Just FYI, if that helps.
