Hey Sajha Regulars!

Please help me out. I want to study medicine, but since I am an International Student, it's going to be really tough for me to go to a medical school because of high tution fees these schools charge. Therefore, I decided to do Nursing(RN) and then get a green card, work for a year and then apply for the medical school. That way, I can even apply for In State Scholarships and Financial Aids too.

Actually, no one has yet advised me about the step I have taken. I don't have much acquaintance who have a medical background. So, being a regular sajha visiter, I thought of asking you folks about what is better to do? Is the path that I have chosen is good and worthy( as I will be spending my three years for completing RN)....

     FOlks... Please Help Me out......

no one can judge it. you decide what is your goal and how you want to get it. Being RN does not gurantee that you will get green card so soon. You might have to work with the hospital for 2-3 years..  which means..  3 years of your education and completing degree.. and then if visa available at that time then find yourself lucky. I am talking about Schedule A visas.
make a period of 5-6 years before you enter into med school.. and you spend another 4 years and then at least 2-3 years of residency. You decide what you want and how you want to get it.

On a side note, why dont you make some money and get out of this country and go home...   get into a medical school down there... gharmai basera masta sanga gharkai daal vaat tarkaari khayera mbbs saknu... ani ek dui barsh work experience liye pachi usmle garera yetai aaunu...   another 2-4 years of residency will help you to become MD here.. ..
just my personal thought.. good luck with whatever you decide.

Depending on the school you apply for physician assistant, the admission criteria is very different. Most of the schools will be looking for at least a bachelor's degree and 2000 hours of work experience in health related profession. Being PA wont waive any work load of medical school even if you get admission in the med school later. On top of it, PA school is also extremely competitive and they would prefer to admit resident than an international student.
