After a few days of relative calm, the unrest in Terai has taken a new turn on Wednesday after at least two protesters died when clashes ensued between policemen and protesters in Katahari area of Biratnagar.
Two persons identified as Talu Hasda and Nirmal Rajbanshi have died of bullet wounds when the police opened fire at protesters who tried to enter the city area under curfew.
Reports say police opened fire after protesters hit them with bows and arrows. Around five dozen persons including policemen and protesters have been injured with six protesters in serious condition.
The administration of Biratnagar had clamped indefinite curfew from 11 am Wednesday morning. The city has been reeling under constant curfew with sporadic breaks since past nine days.
Likewise, Malangwa of Sarlahi district is also under curfew between 9 am till 6 pm on Wednesday. Protest demonstrations, however, have continued in Janakpur, Birgunj and Siraha, among other places.
