Guys,

Can anyone tell me what are the best companies to work for (in terms of less work-load) in Data warehouse, i,e; Cognos? I don't really want a stressful job with strict project deadlines and things. Please post the companies' name below that you guys think have good benefits and do the GC. Thanks.

Are you freaking kidding me?

You don't want to do too much work.
You don't want any deadlines... and things.

But

You want good benefits.
You want Green Card.

Let me guess, you probably also want:

high six figure salary, heck make that seven,
stock options out your wazoo,
corner office with dedicated office staff to attend to all your whims,
severance package higher than Bob Nardeli's, right?

While you are at it, how about:

a 6 month guaranteed vacation every year,
a beach front condo at Barbados,
lifetime usage of corporate Gulfstream fleet,
unlimited memberships in premier country clubs all around the world,
all paid for Ivy League education for your kids, your relatives' kids, your neighbors' kids, your dog's kids,....

What else?

Inquiring minds are eagerly wanting to know.

Hehehehehehehe ....Riten bro., youa re freaking out for nothing.... I didn't mean to sound lazy or "kaamchor"..what I meant to say is- sometimes the employers can put sh*t load of work at you..so when you come home you just wanna go to bed..because they will take all the juice out of you... I just don't want those bloodsucking companies..

To your speculation, here are my "pragmatc" answers

high six figure salary, heck make that seven, -- No, but close to six is the market rate anyway

stock options out your wazoo-- if they want, but I am really not being adamant about it

corner office with dedicated office staff to attend to all your whims-- Not really

severance package higher than Bob Nardeli's, right? -- Too much to ask for (nice joke)

While you are at it, how about:

a 6 month guaranteed vacation every year-- You may be able to get a Professor
a beach front condo at Barbados-- I would be lucky if I get it in FL :)
lifetime usage of corporate Gulfstream fleet-- common dude
unlimited memberships in premier country clubs all around the world-- I like public Golf courses better (cheap)
all paid for Ivy League education for your kids, your relatives' kids, your neighbors' kids, your dog's kids,.... I will manage, if the salary is good

So, here..I answered it...One thing I must say to you though..Sometimes here in Sajha, we post things out of curiousity...there is no harm in posting simple queries... No need to make "mountain" of nothing... Learn to chill...
Ciao dude!

Riten,

Don't worry about earlier posting. One can always expect that sort of comments in such postings- in the beginning :)
Anyway, speaking of what I would like to do is- I want to work as a Reportnet developer or Report Developer.

MillionDollars,
Yes, you are right! I don't have a lot of experience in this field. I only have 6 months experience, but I can take care of things with that much of experience. After all, I have over 5 yrs of combine experience (QA, BA, RA). I just wanted to shift the career and give it a more solid base. I like the field, so I thought it might work out for me. Anyway, I have no reason to be offended :)

Explorer, do you know Crystal Reports? The reason I ask is because I have a little bit of background on data warehousing as well. Sure would like to exchange knowledge if you are willing.

Explorer Bro: Then I would take following comment as a joke:
"I don't really want a stressful job with strict project deadlines and things"

.

What actually do we do in "data warehousing"? Is it the systems integration part (for data centers) , the database repository (data marts/info marts) or am i talking quite in general ?

I am interested!

Riten,
No, I don't know Crystal Report. I have a common knowledge of Informatica, but I'm very much interested in Cognos part. The reason for me to go to Reportnet (Cognos 8) is- it's all web-based and pretty easy to learn. Thanks for asking though.

Million.. Bro,
The reason I made that comment was- I have seen people working like a dog for less than what they are worth. I mean, some companies just like to keep giving you s*it and you'd start to have high BP ;)
I'm not a "kaamchor" but that's the last thing I want. I would also like to enjoy life, if you know what I mean :)

Oldmaven,
There are lots of thing you can do in DW, but it all depends on what position you would like to have. For instance; DW admin, developer, architrect and so forth. As an admin and arhitrect, you will have to know the DW life-cycle inside out. However, as a developer you must to know the flow, but you don't need to go into the depth (less stressful) of it. I hope this helps.

I hope I'm making sense here :)
