Reasons for Racial Discrimination in Nepal The group responsible for racial discrimination in Nepal is a minority in terms of population: a minority population is dominating a majority of the people. The dominant group consisting of male parbatiya (hill) Bahun and Chhetri consists of around 15 percent of the population only.3 Despite its minority population status, it is dominating rest of the society by controlling the state and societal apparatus with constitutional and legal manipulations and historic and current imposition of parbatiya Hindu Ideology, which severely disadvantages other communities, on the society. For instance, by declaring the state as Hindu in the Constitution, and following Hindu jurisprudence in laws of the country, it has imposed parbatiya Hindu value system in the society that facilitates domination of Indigenous Peoples, non-Hindu religious, dalit, madhesi and women groups. 3The Bahun-Chhetri population is around 31 percent. Since women are dominated, more so in the Bahun-Chhetri group, the dominant population, in reality, is half of it or approximately 15 percent. Bahunbad: The main factor of discrimination toward the marginalized groups, including the Indigenous Peoples, is Bahunbad. Bahunbad is defined as domination of hill 'upper-caste' Hindu males in the state apparatus and society, including the supposedly progressive realms such as media, academia and human rights groups, and formulation, implementation and legitimization of public policies and social attitudes that favor the dominant group through such domination in most of the influential realms of the society. Extensive domination has been made possible by adopting the hill Hindu religious ideology by the state, and communalization of the society by Hindu norms and values.

It is true but sad, too. Democracy in Nepal did not work and will never work... Unless all Nepalese Tribes has "EQUAL OPPERTUNITY AND PARTICIPATION" in Educattion, Government Employment, Politics, Social and Justice systems. In 60 years.... these important matters were missing from Nepali Democracy. Therefore..... Equality is more important than Democracy and political changes.

I agree with that Chettri and Bahuns discriminate all true Nepali tribe people in Nepal. 95% Government employee are Bahuns and Chettris. 93% Political parties leaders, members only Bahuns and Chettris. 95% Parliament members and representatives are Bahuns and Chettris. How come Nepal can be Democratic and maintain as well as save Democracy? Only given name as Democracy or Democratic country does not serve Democracy. All people must have opportunity for participation and employments. It is just simply unfair..... Otherwise…. We must kick out Bahuns and Chettris into deep Jungle of Bihar.

NewarHero, regardless of which caste I belong to, I respect Bahuns, Chhetris, Newars or any other caste in the country. I personally don't see any discriminations going on in the country, and I am not prejudiced when I am saying that. Our country demands cultural harmony and attitudes like that of yours would only bring disparity. Try to avoid all these figments of imaginations and your out of place vent on lack of justice. Do good, you will receive good.

Kakababa, the one who started this thread. Any particular discrimination that triggered you to start this thread? At least to the place I belonged and to the culture I grew up with, the indigenous community had a strong influence in the society. I personally have seen politicians, singers, other elites belonging to indigenous community. I am not trying to defend the mass of bahuns or chhetris here, but I do not think very high of those people who whine and try to find out an easy solution to success. If you want something, why don't u go for it? godddd

They were kept in dark, hence they only mushrommed, but what about us now, having received the light of knowledge and awareness are we ready to go back and spread the light of awareness. Untill then, unity, understanding and solution seeking in appropriate way will be in best interest of all. Leaders, elites of Nepal failed the nation and from the minority community failed them. Now it is our turn to lead the torch from the front in our own area of capacity, let us seek and try to do what we can for the cause.

In the same way the marginalized Nepali community in India should also get the same respect and treatment and we should understand that for the Indians and others Nepali is a common identity and not a fragmented one as we speak of. Unabated infiltration concerns NESO From Our Spl Correspondent (Shillong Times) NEW DELHI: The North East Students Organisation (NESO) has expressed concern over the unabated influx of foreign nationals into Meghalaya and demanded scrapping of Indo-Nepal Treaty of Friendship which it said is only helping the illegal immigrants. Talking to The Shillong Times, the Chairman of the NESO, Mr Samujjal Bhattacharrya said that after Asom, it is Meghalaya which is facing the brunt of influx not only from Bangladesh but also from Nepal. "The Indo-Nepal Treaty of Friendship, 1950 has opened the floodgates to lakhs of Nepali nationals who have entered the region and managed to obtain permanent citizenship through unfair means," he said. "Some have even got themselves elected to the State Assemblies and even to the Parliament," he said. When pointed out that the treaty is valid for the whole country, the All Asom Students Union leader said that the treaty should not be applicable in entire NE region. Meghalaya is facing immense pressure from illegal immigrants which should be stopped. The massive additional population is putting huge pressure on the local indigenous population, he said.

I have seen people suffering from suppression and domination, but none of the caste in the nation is spared from that. Even bahuns and chhetris are subjected to political domination and poor economy. I know in villages, the "bahunpratha" do exists. But u cannot generalize that thing and design a thread venting about social discriminations and accusing the so called "majority" population of suppression. What kind of person I am? I am a nicely bred guy who knows the importance of social harmony and the importance of intertwinement of different ethnic communities in the country. Grow up kid. We're a complete protesters of people who try to bring disturbances in the tranquility of our nation by introducing various caste issues.

Yes it is true... This kind of thread seems like racist thread. But in reality and true... it is not... It is just expression about what Chettris and Bahuns do too much crimes, corruption, destruction and supression in Nepal. When people explode and angery the result will not be sweet. It just like that... Yes it is bitter. Beside... Chettris and Bahuns must understand that they should NOT hide, protect, try to make it nice while all bad cause by them, or try to be the scape goat in trouble. They try correct things by telling here or there... But NOOOOOOO.... It is too late to say sweetness....

We do too much "crime" because your people are so backwards and uneducated that they swing from one tree to another like chimpanzees. Where are your leaders? You don't have any because you still live in caves and mud huts. Are you guys even humans? You whine and complain, blame everything on bahuns, yet don't realize that this is the 21st century. You lot follow Prachanda blindly, without realizing what the moron is up to. Fool in every sense of the word would describe you all very well. I do feel that the term "native" should precede the term "Nepali" when describing your ilk, much like calling America's indigenous people "native americans' instead of only Americans. To be "Nepali", the language of your ancestors has to be "Nepali". Nepali is of course a bahun language. In essence, what this means is that only bahuns/chettris are true "Nepalis", using this linguistic logic. You have no real leaders. So all you can do is point fingers at bahuns and chettris. Give me a break. I would be so glad if instead of Nepali, you "indigenous Nepalis" were taught in your native languages. I don't want to deal with you guys. Keep working as coolies in India, as kuhire ko bharias, and cannon fodders for the brits. Oh yeah, keep blaming bahuns for everything.
