some of my thoughts:

* JB put it very nicely:
"he fact that Nepali women - or women of any nationality for that matter- should have equal right as that of men is a foregone conclusion. its not even a matter of debate."

** Plight of women needs to be recognized. Violation and abuse of women do exist.

**Not all Nepali men are chauvinistic pig.

**Awareness /Education is key.

** By scolding or anatagonizing you cannot change the mindset of anybody on any issues. In case of our country, for instance , we need to reinforce and remind their wives are half of them therefor, better their wives are better they will be.

bro, sorry, must have misunderstod ur points a little, but on the first quote i was trying to answer you question and the second one i was "emphasising" it..but, hey! its cleared now ..:)

bro, haha are u pointing out ur EXPERT question to SITARA??.. ( hey just guessing hai! s)but i am supirsed, a lady who had said so much abt NOT HURTING MUSLIMS AND ALL MUSLIMS ARE NOT BAD(which i obviously agree and disagree), has just few words to throw out on such a vast issue..:)

anywaz, i am not an expert but here i can give you a solution, its education bro. education in a different manner, elementary books sud have picture of working mom, daddy caring a child and cooking, daddy washing clothes and mom paying bills, than only a child's state of mind can be changed nor they will always think teacher is a woman and a soilder is a man..

Surely, Confused my friend, you must have guessed by now (if I don't respond to your continual call for attention)...it's because I wouldn't want you to task your mind any further! Allow me to enjoy reading your expert views on this matter.

J. Bhoot good point! Thanks for pointing out the redundancy in arguing the obvious! And ofcourse, counter-arguing the obvious does not add substance either.

Hey why you people think that working women is only the development. Is that the sign of women becoming equal to men ... no way.. and why does women think that men`s job are easy. It makes me laugh a lot.... even in a village if women have to do men`s job they will sweat from their ass I am sure of this. you know what in those little small villages people are happy in their own way... we intruders from outside goes there... teach them whatever we like from our immature mind and make them quarrel... in the name of women upliftment.. Live with those people for couple of year then you will know its not the gender issue that hunts them... that makes them unhappy... its the economic condition that is making their life miserable. Go to the village ... look at those people who fight each night ....but love each other soo much. If one girl just kiss her husband she is ready to kill that girl.. and if one guy just kiss his wife he is ready to blow his head ... come on what a platonic love they have... what a balance of gender!! Will that ever exist in the cosmopolitian city...

You see clickerclick, your views of our nepali village is a very perfect scenario dear! U think that women in villages think they can't work like men??? I have seen them working hand in hand plus get up 4 am in the morning to fix supper, take care of children, do all the household work.....com'on bro..... if men are stronger then women then women aren't machines..... Beside this, there are many more issues that u haven't even bother to mention!! What do u think of the little girls who are sold? What about the domestic violence, several wives, liittle girls forced to marry a very old guy, women being killed, raped?? Most of them have to work even on the day of their pregnancy due... they give birth in the jungle as a result! Are they animals bro? Most of them keep quite even through all these rough times... because they are not educated and can't make their voices heard in that society.....the society where women have all kinds of name if she sleeps with another man or marry another but for men there's no name even when he has 5 wives in the same house!

Yes, they are poor but that doesn't mean that outside education about domestic violence, rape, dowry will ruin them!! Most of the marrriage seems like they love each other outside.... but inside they fight and as a result women suffer not men....women is wounded and killed not men! At least in cosmopolitan city, women is educated enough to deal with the situation dear! Just my honest opinion!

sweetie!?? where are the points from SITARA??!!?

i am lost..:)

SP, you have given some good points, and thats considered "GOOD POINTS" ..and if yes, living in a city it may seem THESE RIGHTS ARE OBIVIOUS for SOME "LADIES", but the life in the hard corners of the world for woman is diff..hope i didnt offend anyone by stating some "well known fact"

Hey confused, I didn't get your point...........isn't what u are trying to say.........I already referred to? If u don't understand then yes I was saying that women in villages suffer more than women in cities (even though it's also bad in cities)!! What's your point bro?

Now sweetpie... you are taking sooo many issues together... okay let me tell put you in simple way...women in village wake up in 4 am yeah thats true.... that is their daily routine...it might be difficult and harsh life for you dear....cause you are used to wake up 8 oclock... and need breakfast in your bed... They can wake up at 4 am ....go and fetch water from 1 km distance place...and prepare all the breakfast to thier hubbies... and what is your routine... you wake up at 9...hardly have time to dress up... even hardly have time to see your hubby ....who will be reading news paper or watching news..hurriedly home for office....

The village guy goes out to work...in his field... if he has no work in his field may be he is even ready to carry someone`s loads... smokes a khukuri...attempts every way to earn money...make every attempts not to make his beloved who is waiting back in home for some foods to eat...finally...a hard work...lots of sweat...he is able to earn few grains to put that day...goes back to home ...fights... laughs...cries...and plunges into their own paradises...

Back to our morden couple.... busy in the office....attends meetings... too much work honey what about having dinner out... thinking about the money...for status...money for the business... ohh I think i have to invite the new director of x company, there is good chance of some business there... hey honey why not we invite him....goes to dinner together... ohh you have sexy wife...thank you!!!
see honey it seems he enjoyed the dinner...we need to keep on this company we surely have good future with this company.... back to home...tired...oh I have to prepare for proposal you sleep honey !!!

Now these stories are just the part and I know that Its not that perfect in any case... Neither the village guy is perfect not the mondern guy..neither village girl nor modern girl.. If someone is bad... they can be bad anywhere... not necessarily only in village...If some one wants to beat the women they can beat be anyone... but if we just look at the phenomena... do you think village women is tortured!!!!! (now don`t tell me that all the village man are bastards!!)

Hey Clickerclick, why are u comparing the women villages to me?? Am I not the one who is saying we should think about how they suffer? Yes, I have a nice life but I am trying to do something for them....that doesn't mean I have to experience their life! I have seen it a bit dear! True, I have my modern routines......it that bad?? Wives going to office along with husbands instead mopping floor everyday? Is it bad that women make their own money and be independent.....Is it bad that they are educated and concious about the world issues and has a thing or more to say?? I know u can't endure it but who cares? I am the privileged one but who will take care of women in villages? Yes, men there might work hard and life is hard but that doesn't give them the permission to hit on wives to vent their fraustration of their life. I don't have to go to bed fearing my husband will bit me tonight...yes he says goodnight honey...don't worry about the dishes...I will help with dishes!! Any problem with that? It's surprising to see u compare the lives of village women and city women.....hmm......vast difference? yes! but similar rights.....nooooo!! no way buddy! She can't have dinner together with her husband oh yeah she has to wash his feet and drink that water, she has to serve him dinner first and then think of herself? And yes has to take care of household work! I don't think all village men are like that but majority are....whether u call it from ignorance or poverty.....but they are doing wrong.....and it's nothing wrong to be call them bad guys! Same goes for city guys who abuse their wives!

The question is, do we see all this and keep quite thinking that's the way our society is...... ? I would most likely want to see u guys doing something instead of telling me not to call men what to say?? If word (calling men bad) hurts then how about women who are getting hurt physically everyday?

What a big mouth you have sweetpie... you want to help them but you don`t want to feel them.... you don`t even want to experience them nope LOL... are you just a kid or what... or you are boasting that you have lots of money ... education sooo you need to manipulate some villages.. Its not big deal that you can easily school for them....yeah to educate them.... and you are educated enough too... give bhasan to them... against the womens rights.... .our village people will also love you... they will welcome you with bandbaja... I am sure there will be some dance progarms also ... and back when you are in ktm... you will be busy making some journalist as friends.. so that they can interview you... and some donor agencies... you will send them all those pictuers covered of peoples in dirty clothes.. I can imagine you can even use your pen to show it worst .. most worst infact... more worst you can display more you can hope from donors... those money will come to built some offices in ktm and thats all............ after 10 years also ... those people will be wearing same dirty clothes when you will be visiitn country after country in name of seminars....
LOL isn`t this the picture........may be I am wrong... if I am then tell me where I am wrong... Money is not solution... it is just part of the solution... first you have to go to thier place... live with them... see what is their condition and then decide... you know what if you want to make changes in their society you don`t criticise about the establish social values from outside...you live with them... make them realise ... those values that have to be changed... Not easy nope..... yeah its not as easy!!
Anyway I know you are educated you can do lots of chages... but for god shake don`t half educate those village peoples... Sometimes when I was living in the very remote village ... there was one school.. only one teacher who use to teach eveything... and boys and girls both were learning travelling 5-10 km to learn... i asked them what are their aim..they have big aims... becoming doctor.. engineer.. then I remember students of kathmandu ... who are better prepared than those students... I knew that time that nearly 90% of them will never be able to continue more than 2-3 years.. due to their proverty... that time first time I felt like telling them not to study... first time I felt telling them go and work in field that your father is soo good at... learn farming ... learn it best... instead of learning all those a for apple and b for ball after being 10-12 years.. but I sealed my mouth.. sweet pie.. I think you have source.. you are capable ... infact we who knows better have to change this society... but lets not change it in the way we want... lets change it in the way its better place for people living there.
Lastly do remember that I am not the one who will say no if women is put at my own level. I am not the one who let women bow in my feet but one who embraces!!!

What a junk brain u have clicker.....Well Mr. Clickerclick..... I don't have to experience their lives altering mine 'cause who doesn't know about the lifestyle of villages and how they suffer! Don't u? Are u a kid now? Yes, I have spent 2 months in villages when I was in Nepal......

Now u are crossing the line, telling me how education will ruin their lives, my dedication towards them is to take advantage of them? GROW UP, WILL U?! I even donate whatever I can without my name mentioned....do u at least try to do something? Nothing right? How about I let other countries help bring out the issue of Nepal? Now don't tell me it's easy to do! It's not! Do u how hard is to get funded? At least I have the guts to do it..... u should know how much foreign funding has been gone into the schools in villages and how hard people have worked? stop your bak bak and don't try to pull my leg! It's easy to talk trash but hard to actually do something!

Dear, in order to make a difference in Nepali society, u can do a lot when u are out of country! First, u have the education and skills and yes money too and foreign non-profits dedicated to Nepal.... in Nepal, u are struggling so hard to make money....who thinks about helping build our villages? Money is very important buddy.....without it u can't build them schools, clinic etc..... I do believe in a healthy discussions and supply them with tools when they need it! I don't want to force them to change my way....who said that? Give some suggestions and let them make their own decisions? I can't force them can I? The village kids u were talking about....u said they couldn't go to school because they don't have money.....now see our government doesn't care about these stuff.... aren't we responsible to let them continue with our small help? Do u want to let them go farming because they are poor? Then they will always be back to the square one! Why everybody only opposes but aren't willing to do anything?? Have a little shame!

Yeah junk you may say that to my mind.... I don`t mind it... well living for just 2 months and you seems to understand all the problems don`t make me laugh...you take development issues too light... building school... building clinic and that`s all ... take are developed... what if after you build school too you can`t make difference in society... what if your clinic is no better than just providing only cetamol by some health assistant who comes there once a month.... Now you are telling me how difficult its to have fund...that makes me laugh a lot...you are soo concerned about the funds. what do you think they are dying of hunger or what...
You saying me trying to pull your leg... LOL am I? why should I pull your dirty legs anyway... Well if you are doing anything baby...just do it with man bachan and karma... not to get some cheerings from your friends. I will only applaude you .... if you can really change the faces....lifes of those people ... not just pile of the reports!!!!
demonstrate in action ... rather than showing big mouths!!!

Well let me clarify u then clicker, yes I am KTM girl born and raised there.........that doesn't mean I haven't been out of KTM.... 2 months is the longest I have stayed at one time...but I have several times yaar...even if my small clinic can provide a citamol...that's a help dear......and I can do better than just plain old clinic. I would provide contraceptive education, sex education, domestic violence issues, checkups, social issues and many more.... be liberal minded bro...

Have u tried to fund before from a different country? Try it and tell me. Don't just assume and laugh. Or at least ask somebody who have done it! I have and will devote a lot of time out of my personal life to work on it.....now that means a lot....taking time away from my family and work. I could think of ways to talk with nepali government on this issue do something about it....not only about clinics and schools but hunger too. But one at a time dear...I don't have the time in the world and a lot of money to help them constantly....Yes, I have a little money and dedication and try to find other people to help them though. Why wouldn't I sip margaritas and go on vacations instead of spending money on them?? It takes a lot of sacrifice and dedication obviously think about it. And if u think everybody wants to help villages to earn a name then u haven't worked in a non-profit sector and those schools, clinics and educational lectures people set out to do without needing any fame....

who has a big mouth u or me? I am doing something right now and will continue it.... how about u? If all these people including u criticize people who are doing at least something then prove them wrong by doing something yourself! Do u have any plans better than mine??Then bring it up bro! I am sure that I get criticized for this from people "who says why are u wasting your time helping people instead of enjoying your life".... but I haven't expected anything better from u guys either... I know people get criticized in our society if somebody tries to do something good.....but who cares?? I don't care what u think of it..u can't stop me.If tommorrow I do something splendid and then there will be the same people(who criticized me earlier) praising me. That's the mentality of our society and u are still the victim of it! Have a little radical mind about possibilities...... One can make a difference instead of giving up and doing nothing bro...If u have a husky ideas than mine let me see it.......

you don`t have to beg infront of others dear!!!.. just go and live beside them... you are eucated one... just tell them to use pulley instead of using rope only when they are pulling water... teach them pulleys... show them... yeah you educated girls can do lots... their is thousands things to do and thousand way to help... For anyone who still believes that they can stay far... and help.. I don`t believe them. As for saying non profit sectors job.... we are quite aware of that... I have seen thousand time when the foreign doners come....they will be treated like god...some bhasan dance programs.... and when they are gone....nothing left....that system isn`t going to work. I don`t say we don`t need to make them educate... education is the most things for everybody... but what my point is teach them something that can earn them some money...teach them skill... Its not providing fish that I call help...its just teaching the art of catching the fish.
and as for your next question... do I have any plan to do anything myself? nope .. I don`t have... and yeah I do respect that you plan to do that...I am not pulling you or discouraging you too... i am just pointing you that the most important thing of our village is to see the root of the problem and then eradicate it... it has to be decided by long stay in the village. Its not like ohh we need to give sex education... we need to give womens education... we have to open clinic or school... First go and live with them and try to figure out what is their root problem...then try to eliminate them.... and yeah I am always ready to assisst in any way ... even with small amout that i can save..but not to spill in the sands

Well first of all.......really appreciate for understanding and supporting my motives. My view towards "We don't have to beg to others" is a contrast. Most of the big projects in Nepal are donated by foreign countries hmm.....Nepal is the one of the poorest country in the world.......it gets tons of financial help. Although it's embarrasing and toilsome to ask somebody else for help it is well worth it! If I go and live with them and talk with them about the issues will help them.....well teaching them to use pulley won't save them from domestic violence or getting married with an old guy instead they will still be a domestic servant just efficient servant right? I don't think that's that much of an important help!

In order to learn the art of fishing u need education.....which will slowly grow in the next generation 'cause next generation will be educated. The things against women aren't happening just because they are poor....it's because of their lack of outside influence. Everything can't change in villages at once. But even if they are ignorant it is possible to teach them about not to hit their wives, not to have 4 wives, not to get drunk and help wives time to time by at least taking care of children. If we are able to teach them about family planning then it's to their benefit...as a result they will have less kids which means less stress or not much money problem right?
U said the foreign donors are respected in Nepal right? They deserve to be respected man....they are taking time out of their busy life to help them instead of our KTM nepalese. Yes, they deserve to be appreciated. One dance or two and a celebration won't harm anything. It takes a lot of research even before we start a project there, in between and after the project. In that period we would definitely get to know them and their problems. Honestly I can't provide them with education, clinics etc or what not but I wish I could. It is hard to do all that and I am not a god to be able to make their problems go away with a magic. But instead probably I will focus on women's issue and related things like family planning, sex education, domestic violence which are immediate devoir.....teaching them skills comes later and lot has been done before too through other non-profits. CHEERS!

Well, with the insurgency and the NRA's treating the country as their stomping ground, "sustainable developement" is an idealistic notion! So, send the fish, teaching how to fish could be be hazardous to health, thanks to the Maoists!

u r correct sweetie..not most alsmost ALL money that is avilable to nepal for such issues comes from foregin donors..and ofcourse the mother country is USA....NEPALI NGO's have done a great deal on the issue of women rights..from "maitighar" to countless other NGOs.., we ought to be proud of these brave Nepali Men and Women...
