Although I am not rajabadi, but I think we need to have some kind of ceremonial KING, just to continue our culture.

Now our NEPAL is secular state, so it can't endorse any religion, so how it can support our long cultural history.
I afraid that now we will lose the privilege for knowing as country of living goddess 'KUMARI'

Nepal's 'living goddess' in limbo
By Charles Haviland
BBC News, Kathmandu

The previous goddess, Sajani Shakya, retired in March. The appointment of a new "living goddess" in Nepal is being held up by the recent abolition of the monarchy, a Nepalese official says. According to tradition, the king's priest appoints the girl, who is chosen in her infancy and is treated as a goddess, or Kumari, until puberty.

But the priest no longer has any say in the republic, the head of the trust overseeing the tradition says. Hindus and Buddhists regard the Kumaris as incarnations of a deity.

Shria Badrucharia, 6, has been selected by a religious panel as the "living goddess" in the town of Bhaktapur, near the capital Kathmandu. She was chosen to replace the previous goddess who retired early in March. Under the ancient tradition, she has to have certain physical attributes and undergo special tests to be selected. But the head of the trust overseeing the Kumari tradition told the BBC that because Nepal is now a republic that priest no longer has any role in the matter. He said the chairman of the trust's board would have to decide soon who would approve the new living goddess.

This quandary is just one of many set to arise now that the politicians have abolished the monarchy without thinking though the religious or political implications.

It is unthinkable that this deeply religious country would scrap the rich series of traditions and festivals which pepper the people's lives and are also a magnet for tourists.

Yet many traditions are associated with the king and may face adjustments in future.

Nepal is now supposed to be a secular state but for the past two years the elderly Prime Minister, Girija Prasad Koirala, has been trying to take on the king's religious roles with a stream of temple visits.

A few months ago the prime minister was said to be angered when the royal priest refused to give a blessing.

The biggest elected party, the Maoists, are fiercely non-religious.

However, the party's deputy leader was blessed by a priest at the start of his election campaign.

f*u*c*k Identity... you know what Nepalese back home are now close to the Starvation,
and culture and identity has been a less important issue for neplese.

Well accept the change, if our country will be good in future due to this stupid change, well we must agree to give
up the "KUMARI" and Hindu Kingdom....
So please now dont stick yo self on these minor Kumari and indra jatra and THink Broad.

if Nepal is going to be a better country because of the Maoists and the change they claim to bring, that is worth every thing and is even greater than our culture, identity and anything else. But are the Maoists going to take the country towards prosperity, democracy, and freedom???? this is really a doubt.

if there is starvation in Nepal, who is mainly responsible for that??? Ofcourse the Maoists, then come the political parties, and the King---but surely not the tradition or culture.

If the cultures, traditions etc are for ALL Nepalis to treasure, how come whatever happens to Kumari does not really affect me and my Paschim_Pahadi communities? Has the Ktm elite ever given a rats ass about my cultures, traditions....? Legalized anarchy, anyone?

Ok. What about religious king rather than a ceremonial king? I am sure there are many people in Nepal that want king to do the religious duty. So why not keep a religious king.

Like many Nepalese in Nepal, the guys/gals in sajha also are getting brainwashed by maoists and ready to give up our culture, our identity and our religion. I agree that bad practices like sati pratha should be removed and are better gone, but that does not mean we should turn ourselves into someone without identity, culture and religion. I support republic but I just hope communist republic will not prevail.

I love our Nepalese tradition culture and our History.AND we should preserve it for ever and ever loosing it would be a shame ...our whole identity depends on it......But ............For the sake of GOD.......... We worship almost everything....from cow dung and piss to grass, trees, snakes, dogs monkeys houses, food to everything. Our gods outnumbers the population of Nepal YET our country is not blessed by the gods we worship with prosperity WHY???...because Gods are against materialistic gains, I mean thats what I think............. For Gods all its all about spiritual gains. FROM Now Money and development should be Nepals GOD. So to be "politically" correct...Teach the old traditions in schools and stuff BUT...lets have the most minimum public holidays....I mean less religious holidays. So we all can be productive. Just a few selected holidays and rest working days for developement. LOL what the heck..... looking at all the holidays Nepalese enjoys in the name of tradition just doesnt make sense. Cutting hilidays and increasing working days will bring more money everywhere and Nepal will be one of the richest country in Asia...........Lets al be PRODUCTIVE and not look for the lazy holidays that plauge our Nation in the name of tradition and religion.

I still Hate the MAOISTS and the political leaders.....with passion
