Since, it's a religious reason that the cow should not be killed in Nepal where majority are hindu, the law seems to represent popular opinion. Having said that, religious minorities were never barred to eat beef in Nepal. Only slaughtering becomes the issue because it is grotesque and people don't want to see it in first place.

Many of those in sajha would gladly accept US or other countries citizenship if offered. Gladly quit Nepalese citizenship. You dont even understand the sentiment why cow is holy. You guys should not even consider yourselves Nepalese. So, why do you guys want to talk as Nepalese. because you dont know how to mix with other race ?? Holy cow re ?

Yea, I agree that the title of thread should be changed from 'holy cow' to 'the height of hipocrisy'. I couldn't believe ppl's happiness for the punishment of cow killer.

AP98 and Gwajyo ! I beg to differ on your stances.....I live in the USA or have US citizenship does not mean I should give up everything, my race, religion and start slaughtering cows !! I totally agree with ARKO, minorities esp Muslims etc have been consuming cows for years in Nepal...its just that slaughtering in your backyard is not permissible.....I don't think you have to be a rocket science to differentiate the two.... AP98, what will your so called US sentiments do if you do something like chop off Jesus's head ( of a statue of course) or do something of that fashion, or try Slaughtering PIGS in Pakisthan or Middle East???

Ok, I agree with you knightcrawler about not allowing the slaughtering of cows in the backyard. Not only cows, I also despise any kind of animal sacrifice in the front or backyard or at the temples. Being a hindu kingdom and having a law for restricting cow slaughter, cow killing should be discouraged. But my only concern is that 12 yrs imprisonment is just too much.

At the End of the day, we we stand for what we believe....even if it is wrong !! I see a point gwajyo, we do sacrifice so many animals in Temples...and yet preach against slaughtering cows/Bulls... The punishment is indeed severe, also I wonder the punishment came as such coz' the lady was selling the meat....we don't know...so, we might need more on this story to give our verdict....Later.

Are we debating over whether killing cow is gud or bad? Well if that's the case, then we have a common sentiment. We shouldn't. However, for those of us who have had beef, we were either very young when we came here, or arent very religious, in which case, they're both valid reasons because in the first one we weren't conscious enough to differentiate, and in the latter, you dont give a a crap about a lot of the religious beliefs. However, for those of you who CLAIM to be hindu, myself and other, i think it's hypocritical to eat "meat", and swear and do things that we're not supposed to and still call ourselves hindus. Kuro milena ni. Tyasaile, if you eat any meat, cow khanu thulo kuro haina, but because we have a tradition of sacrificing goat and other livestock to goddesses during festivals like dashain, consuming mutton and chicken or buffallo aint that bad, but slaughtering cows, the animal we refer to and look up to as mothers, who literally feed us their milk, is kind of a psychological barrier that we face. it's hard. But there's feta cheese and goat milk, we consume both. what about that eh?

. well, we don't have to go to feta (sp?) cheese or goat milk. the milk that we buy in packets or bottles in nepal has buffalo milk in it (as well as cow milk and powdered milk). so...what about momos?

This archaic law and belief should be abolished. Holding onto Hindu edict is not going to get us anywhere but backward in time. People who eat cow have gone to explore starts and moons and we still are still debating if cow should be considered for food or not. Come on people, we have to face the fact that it’s not what we eat matters but what we say and do. What ever we consume will return as waste so that’s the big deal. Even manslaughter does not get this severe punishment. This Hindu edict has been forced on the indigenous people of Nepal. When it comes to food my entire Brahmin friends have no problem with alcohol and meat anymore. Their father and uncles is no stranger to alcohol, buff momos and chicken roast. And I dare say, Brahmins who have traveled outside of Nepal have eaten chicken, pork and yes beef, too.

I oppose cow slaughter. There should be a severe punishement by law to prevent cowslaughter. But, we all differ or concur in our views. Thats what this sajha is for I suppose. Panga linu parla jasto chha , saathi haroo sanga. I am for 12 yrs prison.

"People who eat cow have gone to explore starts and moons and we still are still debating if cow should be considered for food or not." Do you think we can do the same if we kill cow? hmm.. above cliche sounds good only when said in Nepali.
