I'm not sure if the organizers have decided where to hold the next ANA convention, but noone's stopping us Sajhalese from betting or taking a position on where it should take place!!!!!! What do you guys think? Lets start a discussion! My opinion- Toronto.

Unknown although I don't know you..... you have my applause.YES,these bunch of oppurtunists "tauke" have nothing else to do.Association this ??Organization that?Plain talk.In my opinion what I have seen in these associations and their members they sort of miss that "status quo " while they were living back in Nepal and look for the ways to re-feel it outside Nepal. Some of them still have this rear-end kissing tendency esp. to the foreigners. Do you think they care? Its waste of time and energy and ofcourse money to organize gatherings.I know some of the Nepalese who came looking for the president of one of the organization in DC who was blood related to him.The president or whoever simply lied to that gentleman that he had moved. Finally we the "Kalimatians" thats what we use to call ourselves becuase we lived like the indian migrants living in "kalimati" in the area gave him shelter. The gentleman who lied was the a senior member of that organization which was established on the basis of helping nepalese.Give me a break...... These are the frontline hypocrites....the short-cut hunters for power.

ok here is my 2 cents...as the nepali community in north america is getting bigger every day, may be we need to have ana convention held at two different venue (states, country, whatever) at the same time. so that it is catered for all nepalis from the southwest to the northeast. but i guess thats no different from all these other nepalis organizations doing their regional conventions....i guess the moral of story here is we can't make everyone happy no matter what we do. so if ana aint coming to a city near u, wait till next year or the year after or the year after or just go to the damn place where it is being held this year if u so desperately want to attend :p word!!!!!!

nonse = nonsense Timetraveller, u misread me, i didn't say it doesn't matter where ANA takes place......... iZen, seems like u have been to ANA convention so u know what goes, i had been to one few yrs back somewhere near philly, but ya, ANA is no more than a place to advertise ur business, realtos this realtor that, and use our improved english to dish nepal's situation, nepal's politics and such, i am not sanctioning the politicians of nepal or maoists of nepal or anything, but it doesn't make us any better to talk about them and show our middle finger to them when we stay nicely in foreignland and don't give a shit about our country........i still remember that ANA convention in 2001, where during that Nepali poetry contest, one gentleman came up on the stage, degraded Nepal and nepal's politics as much as he could and in the end lifted his middle finger supposedely to show his disdain towards Nepali politicians........i was like wtf.......

izen has me thinking. That does sound like a typical Nepalese behaviour. Butt-kissin, status quo hungry blah blah.... But I'd really like to meet some "intelligent" people there. Thats my main point of interest. I dont wanna play basketball and shout "New York""New York" for that matter or perform cuz I'm not much of a dancer. Just wanna see Nepalese perspective and views on a variety of different things, on a much broader scale.

Timetraveller, It all depends on how you define "intelligent"?It is hard to find intelligence when most of the folks living in the US are as biased as card holding members of some political affiliations. Most of the older generation Nepalis living in the US are oppurtunists. You will not find any difference in the tone between them and some corrupt officers/politicians back home. I would suggest you to stick with some unbiased foreign newspapers if you are seeking neutral political views.National geographic and foreign affairs recently had good articles on the ongoing insurgency. The educated class of Nepal has always been power-hungry.What is sad is the visibility of that sort of attitude here in the foreign land? And most of these organization are run by these hypocrites. The most unfortunate side of all this scenario is (among Nepalese whether in Nepal or aboard )if you speak a neutral language not blindly taking anyone's side(which is what intelligent discussions should be) and become self-critical which I think we should all be(Isn't it enough we only blame others for all the rough rides?).You wil lbe starting to be seen as a maoist sympathizer. So its a rough scenario out here.... Good luck on your venture to find good crowd...

Nice idea there by izen. Politcal freaks eh, and if you try to be neutral, you're a maowaadi. I'd rather be a maowadi then. There's one good reason to goto ANA though, from what I've heard that is. Lovely women. lol. What dya think izen? is that the good part or do i have to consider on that one as well?

lolol, some funny posts in here. I figured these are the requirements for a good ANA convention: 1. No slimy old men talkin about Girija's next move or Ma.Ku.Ne'.s next street rally. 2. Lots of youth, and (maybe) parents who want to TEACH their kids about Nepali culture and history. 3. Young UN-married (pretty preferred) girls. 4. NO SLUTS or PIMP wannabes. 5. Sporting activities always good and important between diofferent regions or cities. Creates competition and thats imperative. 6. How about business case competitions between different groups? We Nepalese need to develop a strong economically and financially sound community like the Indians do. We need MBAs and Engineers. 7. LOTS OF FUN. (maybe a bachelorette auction?? kidding!!)
