The fact taht Nepali women - or women of any nationality for that matter- should have equal right as that of men is a foregone conclusion. its not even a matter of debate. The big questiion is HOW DO WE DO THAT? And i leave that to educated fine young lovely people out here to explain. :) Cheers

I guess you guys are in dilemma..Can't figure out the problem? If you go back to myth and look at the hindu culture, woman then was consider as MAATA. That means she was care giver in the one way or the another. But eventually it just vanished. I don't blame male society on this regard. If you guys are convince about the fact of woman's plight due to male society, male has been dominated indifferently as well. Matter of fact, cause is lack of understanding between them. Now question is who is responsible? I will say woman herself. First thing is woman never consider hershelf secured without male, they are so dependent. If you look at decent family in KTM you will see woman still doesn't want to go to work, she just doesn't want to despite her family wants her to. She wants to stop her education right after she marry.. there is trend among nepali women to say "AAAAAAAAA JHAYU'. Do you know, if a gal happens to select the a life partner, she looks for one who is more educated than herself. Isn't this self domination? Go to gaun and sahar in Nepal you will find women gathering in leisure but divided within SASU and BUHARI group. Every 4 hrs a day they gossip only about next one and victim is undoubtely a woman. If you gals are talkin about dowry thing, why the hell groom's mother and sister don't act against such trend? They are also a woman, aren't they? Sweetiepie society itself is polluted not just by a Man alone, a woman is part of it. And you are not talkin about no execusion of society structure, then a woman should go ahead and help earn living as well. For lets not be specific about a woman who lives abroad. It wouldn't be those men in Iraq to be killed if society was differently structured, there would certainly be the women too. If I am not wrong, sweetie pie, before calling us ass and moron, have you ever realize who help you to come to US? Isn't he your father? Hug the fact honey, this is how our society is. Thats why we have well known THEGO "BAU KO KAMAI..." and "AMAA KO MAMATA..."

I extol you (Sweetiepie) for posting this topic in sajha. I think the main intention of this topic was to get ideas and opinions of people (how they feel about it?) and you guys just ruined it. It was quite funny to see that everyone's mentality is same as it was back in nepal. Come on gentlemen, be open minded and face the reality. Stop blamining everything to women...And how dare u say girls are sex toys, is that what u learn? ahhh,,,,same on u....i salute ur mothers who gave birth to these astute fellows...she must be proud of u "my nepalese brothers".... Sweetiepie, As u can see its hard to open a discussion infront of ignorant plp....so pls don't even bother...u won't get any positive feedback....except negative.... instead of suggesting ya, lets do something together,..,.they will ask u imbecilic question "hey girl, u r here in US or abroad and u r talking about situation of nepalese women? what u know about them? what can u do ? bla bla bla...... its really frustrating ,,,,ahhhh makes me angry ...so if u or I wanna do something we need to do it on our own...we shouldn't even dream to get any help with these dummy guys.... Thumbs up for u sis :)

Sweetiepie society itself is polluted not just by a Man alone, a woman is part of it. And you are not talkin about no execusion of society structure, then a woman should go ahead and help earn living as well. For lets not be specific about a woman who lives abroad piseces, i agree with you on this one, but bro, what can a women do, when society itself pulls her back from doing so. i have known many women, who have been in trouble with their households, just because they wanted to go and find a job..and the consequences are severe for these kind a women, from "logne" ko jutta ko pitai to "sasu" ko pitai...i do agree, that women need to fight back, for that, first we need to educate them... let me narrate a story of a woman who was killed by her husband, because she wanted to divorce him. she was beaten everyday, because her family didnt give that guy enough "diajo". that guy was no ordinary guy, he was established, army man, .(.major or somehting dont know)..and their marrage was a love marriage..they had been leaving separetly for months and the wife had asked for divorce, so one day that guy called her home and burned her, because he was going to get a job at palace and if he was divorced that wudnt make him a good candidate..he killed his woman and stil now he is free as a bird...these kind of "gadhas" who are ofcourse "men" roam everywhere in Nepal, now pises bro u decide who is to blame?? man or woman?? and yes, this is a real story,

Okay u guys....... if all of guys are against me then fine!! Isn't it so damn sad "sanu memories" to look at this educated yet so dull minded one way men!! Don't worry these "uuloos" can't put me down as they are trying to!! So most of u think that women are as much responsible as men when it comes to their domination?? Do u know how women are considered as a bad luck ever since they are born? Do u know they are treated as a second class human being in their own house? Do u know how the teenager is married to a very old man? Do u know how they are sold? Do u know they are burned alive? Do u know they are forced to get married early? Do u know some women aren't even given a choice to go to school? Do u know how many women suffer of domestic violence?? Do u idiots think women intentionally brought all these things to her????? Do they want to die, to be dominated, to outcast by their own parents?? Wake up guys!! Our present society is the result of the male domination literally and is still going on!! If u are forced to get married at 15 (with no school education or can't finish it) and are sent to a complete stranger's house to deal with household and sasu-sasura......how the hell that woman can do except to do what they say??? No wonder divorce aren't that common like foreign countries because she has kids to take care of....... while her husband is having fun with 4 other wives!! Shame on u all if u blame women for that! Women who suffer everyday and who are even killed will be happy to hear these comments from u guys! If u think women had the even a basic right then they would definitely fight against dowry....it is like literally selling themselves. If they have to struggle to survive then how do u think they can fight against these issues?? So called educated NEAPLI MEN like u don't understand then how can they understand, they haven't been to other countries like u? Dear pieces....... u are completely wrong it was my mum's money that I came to USA!! And now earning my own!! Your society is stilll in 1920s dear.......if u leave your society as it is then we will be counting on number of women killed and battered everyday!! GIVE ME A BRAKE! No more excuse! Thanks for the support "confused". I need some men to agree on this fact. These people only know how to put down people who are at least trying to do something good. They don't do anything themselves but at the same time pulling the legs of someone who tries to do something!!

Dear moneyminded, I am surprised by your mental capability! NO OFFENSE but if u choose to ignore the well known fact that parents prefer boys over girls then what can I say?? Or may be u need to learn "abcd" of nepali society yaar! If u think that I am wasting my time discussing and helping women then don't get into my business. Did u see how many nepali men are ready to talk trash about me in this thread? I am not angry but feel sorry for these so called modern yet way conservative guys! I know I can't make them say "oh sweetiepie is right...we should support her", I get this denoucement from guys all the time......and what do I except from NEPALI MEN YAAR....they are even worse... only respect I get is from women who suffer and die!! So, I don't even bother whether u people think it's right or wrong. All those guys u mentioned above don't seem that they will good husband........ their mental material and their expressions in this thread tell something else dear!! What to do? sweetiepie. We are from that part of world where polygamy is considered a bliss or a religious act. Adultery is a stairway to heaven in our culture. The higher the number of women men have sex with, the more likelier are the chances to heaven. Don't you agree? Our society is patrirachal- sweetie. you've to play by the rules. You got to massage your husband's feet before he sleeps at night or you'll get kicked and strangled. Its our tradition sweetie. Your husband is an avatar of god in human form. Theres no such thing as equality or women rights in our society. Your husband might have scolded you for wasting your time on the net if you had one. If you are still single, you;ll never get married with this feminist mentality unless you change it right now. But, there are exceptions. Some males are feminist in nature too.For example, leonardo da vinci, hitler, Mussolini etc. Not to worry about this. Actually, i support your views on women rights but what to do? The best you can do is just whine on feminism in sajha.

I have due respect towards women. Sweetie, don't be so aggressive on what you read in Sajha. Somebody told me before its like riding in roller coaster, comments are always flip flop. And suggest you wat!! dont go after MM comments. U know, if you come up with the thread against women, he will be the first to criticize. Their are buch of cool dude over here, they really don't mean what the say. You are being so headstrong on your views, to some extend the way you think is wrong. Instead of pointing ten fingurs towards a man, face the fact, a woman is equally responsible. Confuse bro, society can't be change just by blowing a whistle. It changes should be brought up from the root. Do you know girls from PK protest every now and then carrying "GAGRI","GOLTIN", "GAS CYLINDER","NANGLO" and what not. What does that denote? They are limiting themselves in household stuff only. I consider them educated, don't you? Rather than doin that, can't they bring little change in themselves and later in the society. While back one moron patrakar from Gorakha Patra literally raped his wife. That girl held the press conference and asked for justice. Had any educated girl in a town protest on her favor? What were those so called educated girls were doing when she was pleading for justice? There are lots of women welfare sansthan, have any of those brought up the issue and tried to bring that MORON in justice ? However They are too good to do TALA BHAND for no reason. They are too good to SHOUT in favor of GIRIJA. But when it come to stand for a woman right, they are the first to step back. Look people !!!! there is weakness within women, their problem is they just LET GO everything. Girl, its all in your hand to make difference in society. Sweetie, you want to do something? Ok go ahead and count on me, I will be glad to be with you. But initiation should be from your side.

I think I am being dragged into this ..............just like america was dragged into world war ii after pearl harbor ;) Money bro is 100% correct in predicting that I will someday be a good husband. It has now been proved beyond any doubt that he indeed has a vast knowledge on Jyotisi sashtra and bhabishyabani. MM bro, I owe you a drink ;) What i can guarantee here is my (future) wife will never have to worry about debating on womens right issue with me: she simply wont feel the need. You name any right and she will have it. Cheers

Well, "kalebhut" I admire u because at least u understand how our society is structured! Our country is sooo religious and men dominated that they all think the same way. Things have changed since our grandmother's time right? We can't just sit and look at these silently man!! Most nepali men are brought up that way but that doesn't mean they can treat women like dogs! Actually women are the ones who brought all these men to the world!! "GOLI MARO" to our superstitious traditions..... that's just an excuse to dominate even more! Men who are abroad have to learn a thing or two u know! How can u tell me to keep quite when women are being abused and killed???? U will realize the pain only when it will happen to your own sister dear! And for your information I am happily married and don't have to be traditional dominated wife! That's the sad thing that u suggest me not to whine about this in sajha........why every men here has the same "GORU" dimag?? no u are wrong...there are some who wants to do something good man! Think your brain is frozen in 1910 eras ....it's 2004 remember?

Good post Pisces! And you are right about the rollercoaster ride; sometimes it can be a bungee jump! Sweetiepie: While you are doing an admirable job at holding the "woman's rights" fort, you are are being egged on by the offensive verbiage. Sweeping all Nepalese men into the proverbial "MCP trash bag" does not help the issues of equal rights. I have had the good fortune to have met many Nepalese men who advocate for women and human rights. Women's right is no different from basic human rights and need not be politicised to the point of segregating the whole Nepalese population into male versus female. There are changes being made; the process is slow. One good example is: questioning the need for the "Kumari" in our society. Such a critical thought has never before been applied to a religously and traditonally sensitive issue such as "the living Goddess". And if you do click on the thread posted here, you will find our sajha men opposing the traditions of the Kumari on grounds of human rights. Please do not get sucked into verbal bashing of a whole gender just because of a few offensive posts.

Women must have equal right as men. Agreed. Women in nepal and many other countries do not enjoy the same right as men. That too agreed. I dont see any reason to discuss the obvious. So, could anone here enlighten me as to what they plan to do to improve the situation or what should be done? That is what I am interested in.

I agree with you pisces that society doesn't change with a whistle....it takes a long time! Even in western countries........they had fight and fight and are still fighting. But the rights they got today are because their own intent to get one. Not by asking help from men. Men obviously don't want to give their supremacy..do they?? Nepal's women's rights foundations are still virgin. They don't have enough resources or the power to do the things they want to do. And assistant from male dominated government ....forget about it! These women are coming forward inspite of struggles and backlash. U have to remember, even the family of these women are totally against their views and doings. They have to first fight their own family and then society. Women are slowly starting to go to school. yes it's true.... but what I am asking are basic rights..forget about school.... I mean a dignity as a human being man! Now I don't know about the PK protest but it is a shame that women there couldn't shout against that rape case. But once they hear it, do they like it? Ofcourse they want to do something..... but what?? Most of them aren't educated enough or hasn't seen the world to fully analyze that they are acutally being abused. Most of them don't even understand that they are treated bad because they have no outer world perspective. They really think men are god and that they should be treated like dogs. These are only the perspective of women in KTM......what about villages?? Should we even start there? They have no clue how to fight back! Otherwise the whole society will be against her. She has to survive in the same soceity, doesn't she? Aren't we the ones that should help them instead of pointing finger at a few people who come forward?? But we are the ones, who are educated, abroad, can really see what's going on therefore we have to help and I am involved in several foundations here and plan to do more in future!

" So, could anone here enlighten me as to what they plan to do to improve the situation or what should be done? That is what I am interested in." Bhoot bro, how many times have you heard of a husband gettting beaten up by a wife?(maybe true in ur case :P) how many times have you heard of a male being raped by gang of girls? how many times have you heard of guys being beaten up for not providing "daijo"? how many times have you heard of a guy being "sold" (Human trafficking)? these are just few and main points why there should be a foundation for woman rights...of course human rights is no different from women rights, but remember society has always thought of women as infirior gender, so even the basic human rights isnt suffiecent for the beauties of our world..there is ofcourse a need of woman right activist in a society we live in.. " Women in nepal and many other countries do not enjoy the same right as men. That too agreed." i dont know they might have changed it now, but just 2-3 yrs ago, a Father was needed to give out "nagarikta"? daughter could never be the heir of the property..and there are countless otherss.... Pieces bro, totally agree with you, 100 percent..and thats what i meant in my earlier post, root is needed to be changed, SO EDUCATION IS A NEED FOR OUR WOMEN!

Confused Birather, it seems you seriously misunderstood my point of view. In fact, you just reinforced what I had to say. If you take your time to read my post again, you will realize that my posting did not need any counterargument, at least from you. However, in my post I could have gone one step further and propounded on what could have been done to mitigate the prevailing circumkstances regardng opressed women. But as a mediocre college student, which I am, I leave that to some educated experts here :)
