Is Nepal a Foolish State?
Infact, it is true that Nepal is considered the most “foolish state”. Many political analysts believe that Nepal cannot live to its status as a sovereign state. Sovereignty of the state have been compromised time and again for the better ruling political factions and creating a state without any political boundaries. The country has further been fallen from its economic grace and the Government of Nepal is well known for its unaccounted records to its creditors. It is believed that Nepal is one of the few nations that do not have a credible national accounting and the treasury is said to be monitored and operated by the least knowledgeable authority. This is one of the many facts that Nepal earns its title as “a foolish state”.
The recent political development in Nepal focuses more on establishment than the reality of its nationhood. The Nepalese identity for centuries was protected under a Crown and it was this Crown that enabled Nepal to be independent when most of the subcontinent was colonized by the imperial powers. In the 21st century, Nepal as a state is considered a “failed state”. India on other hand uses its muscle power over Nepal for its political motives. Many in India believe that Nepal is an external part of India if not an internal part. This proved to be true in many aspects of how Nepal is ruled and operated at the present context. Under the ruling dynasty, it was virtually impossible for India to have its way indirectly in Nepal. The present Republican setup is a grand design sponsored by no other than India and its concerned parties. The Royal Massacre of 2001, which is widely believed, was a grand design of India and other internal factions to influence then Crown Prince Dipendra to commit what was committed and be protected under immunity was proved to be true as thought by many individuals. It was hard for India and other internal factions to get away with the famous monarchy of Nepal without having it destroyed by its own seed. This paved a way to a new Nepal under a security umbrella of India directly. Nepal under the strong monarchy was always feared by many concerned Indian diplomats in Delhi.
India’s policy towards harboring terrorists in its soil was often condemned by many of its neighbors. India refuted to the remarks of its neighbors and at the same time pointed its fingers on Pakistan for harboring terrorist and using it against India. On the other side, India harbored Nepalese Maoists leaders in its soil and supported them to create an environment where India could use its pretext to interfere in Nepalese affairs directly. It is a proven fact that India used its influence on Maoists and had them equipped with weapons and allowed them to use its base against Nepal. The Nepalese Royal Government at that time was very much aware of it and King Gyanendra had called Indian envoy to discuss the matter. After the coup, the King showed his dissatisfaction against India by completely cutting off the Kingdom from the rest of the world and refused to talk to any Indian dignitaries.
On the other hand, the political parties with the help(financially and politically) of Indian government began its revolt against the Monarch. It was to a great surprise that Nepalese could forget Maoists who had killed thousands and began targeting the Crown. The game that India played was significant to bring political parties to power and have it play their interest through political parties. Since Nepal proved to be a “Soft State” in every matter, it failed to protect its statehood. The State gave away easily without enforcing rule of law to few protestors. The people understood that they could bend the government by agitating and blocking roads and transportation to serve their interest without any rationalization. This was seen and practiced by few disgruntled group time and again through out the Kingdom. The Government often gave away easily and also compromised its statehood for its people.
Now since Nepal under the supervision of India is moving towards a new setup, Nepalese land and blood have been compromised. Removing a Crown not only make Nepal more versatile but also very submissive. The Royals in many instances did protect nation’s interest above everything. It also put its Crown and risked it for the nation’s interest. Republican Nepal would be certainly a challenge when there are other ethnic factions in Teria fighting for its independence and now a different war could be waged for another 20 years. Can Nepal handle it under India’s interest and supervision?
The leaders of Nepal time and again have failed to stand by its political principle. It has been used as a toilet paper by the Maoists to have their demands met. Their continuous change of agreements to serve their needs have once again validated Nepal soft stance, and proved Nepal as a “foolish state”.

t is sad, but whatever Jay Mehta has written is 100% true. India is mainly responsible for the unstability and political turmoil in Nepal. More sad and irritating is the fact that Nepali people have blindfoldedly followed a bunch of political leaders with long lists of corruptions and incompetences without even giving a second thought about what they're doing is really right or not. History has witnessed India using it's different factions including the RAW to establish it's interest in it's neighbors sacrificing the latter's peace, prosperity, and stability.

Nice Article...Have been telling here for almost 2 years..Monarch is not the real enemy of Nepal and Nepalese.King G was stupid now he dug his own grave .fell a victim of grand plan.Monarch is not the only reasons why Nepal is behind. But i guess Nepalese Janta not only proved to be Bheda again and again but this time could not even speak. Now just the herders are SPA and SPA bheda by India. I doubt Nepal will stand any more developed in next 30 years than past 30 years. If Nepal remains.

Mr. Happy Face:
You youngsters of Nepal are its future. Your politicians have sold your nation. Your King is not evil or bad, infact he is very ambitious and far sighted. It is good for a ruler to be ambitious. Unfortunately, he has been used by politicians to serve their purpose. It is my interest to bring some important topics to you learned people. You should carefully analyze it and think over it.
Thank you.
Col. Mehta.

State is formed of nations. Nations make up of a State. Nations are segments of a State. Various nations of people, culture, language make a State. Thus, a State is formed!

Jay Mehata, there is a famous poem by Bhupi Sherchan that says यो मुर्खै मुर्खहरुहो देस हो! If he had been alive today, probably he'd have written यो नपुन्सकै नपुन्सकहरुको को पनि देस हो!
I definitely agree with your analysis. They have weakened the monarchy by spreading false propogandas in two ways. First, they blamed the king of dissolving the parliament and implementing an autocratic rule. It's been only a few years and people seem to forget that it was Sher Bahadur who actually did so. The king had asked the major parties to come up with a consesus candidate for prime minister who can conduct the election. They all wanted the post for themselves and could not make it. As a head of state, the king had obligation and I could not see any wrongdoing from the king side. These SPAMmers had demoralized the people so much tha hardly anyone can come forward without making an insulting comment on the monarchy.
The second propoganda is all about the royal massacre. Girija was the head of government at that time. If there was any hints of conspiracy, why he did not act at that time? Mr. MKNepal was included in the high level investigation team. But, every time they have to take a major action against the monarchy, there's new propoganda in the market. Look for a recent report on Nepal about the massacre. This is one of the dirtiest poltics they are doing.
I want to share a secret of Nepal poltics. These polticians could never unite with eachother except on two things, the first is the monarchy and the second is on looting the national treasury.Girija know that even at this moment, a free and fair election will retain the monarchy in Nepal. That's the reason, they are trying to abolish the monarchy before election ( I doubt it'd happen ever). It's hard to say if Nepal can survive its existence without monarchy , but one thing is sure, this octogenerian vulture is taking the country to hell with himself.

Well, so called ktmreality; come up with logic rather than your rhetoric statement. Foolishness is exhibiting a lack of good sense or judgment . Nobody has to prove you a foolish if you yourself act unwise or guided by misinformation. Give me a reason on why people like you are not responsible for the current situation of Nepal. Just review the history of last decade of Nepal without any biasness. Is it true that what you think now? Believe me, the country is really in a grave situation. Any disaster to the country will not leave only the SPAMmmers culpable for the situation, but your own grandsons will ask you what you did to save your nation. I urge the people to raise your voice before it's too late, at least if you love your country.

Well, I subscribe to the opinions by Mr. Mehta but at the same time I doubt the authenticity of the same person. If I am not wrong, I remember reading his name on various newspapers of Nepal regarding his comments(was it advice to the Indian government or something else ?) . There was hue and cry regarding that comment. It needs great courage being a retired colonel of India for him to bash his own country . Before I conclude anything, I think it would be better if he clarifies his position.
However, I thank Mr. Mehta for his concern about Nepal regardless of his position.

India: Official Nepal-India Border Map Ready News 2007-12-21 13:42
NEW DELHI, INDIA: The meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Level Technical Committee on Boundary that concluded here on Wednesday (19 Dec) prepared an official and scientific map of the Nepal-India border, except for the disputed areas of Susta and Kalapani.
Officials from both countries signed the border map Wednesday night.
There was no agreement over the disputed territory at Susta of Nawalparasi district owing to the rigid stances of both sides, while the issue of Kalapani was not taken up for discussion. India's official stance on Susta has been that there has been no encroachment of land by India there.
However, a source said Indian officials hinted during the meeting that India may have encroached land at Susta, but preferred to keep the issue unresolved stating that evidence was required to establish encroachment.
Nepal's border experts have been saying that India has encroached 14,000 hectares of land at Susta. Similarly, India has allegedly been occupying 372 square kilometres of land at Kalapani since the India-China war in 1962.
A source said that since Kalapani is an issue of Nepal and India as well as China, it would be resolved by a meeting of representatives of the three countries.
The Nepal-India border map will be made public after plenipotentiaries of the two countries sign it. The map will officially mark the territorial limits of the two neighbouring countries. Thus far, there has been no official map of the Nepal-India border.
"The officials signed 182 maps," said Director of India's Foreign Ministry (North) C Gururaj Rao. "We have completed 97% work on border demarcation."
After the meeting failed to resolve the Susta issue, it agreed to recommend to the governments of Nepal and India that another committACee comprising the chiefs of Departments of Survey of the two countries be formed to look into the issue.
The Nepali team at the meeting was led by chief of Nepal's Department of Survey Toyanath Baral while the Indian team was led by Surveyor General M Gopal Rao.
Local committees will now be set up to regulate the border on the basis of the border map. The local committees will be led in Nepal by the Chief District Officers concerned, while the committees in India will be led by the District Magistrates concerned. (By GOPAL KHANAL/ The Kathmandu Post/ ANN)

Nepal is a failed nation but not a foolish state. Only and the most problem with nepal is her politicians including the ass*ole king. we are continuously being cheated by these shits.
The root of all the problem is senseless monarchy. It always interfared in pure domocratic practice. so nepal could never practice an independent democracy. most of the current politicans, so called leaders could never rise above from being the slave of monarchy.
I am happy that the monarchy is on its way to be overthrown. Once it is officially eradicated, Nepali politics will leap towards stability. Although, at present nepal seems to be in a state of dilema, i can clearly figure the Political frame of new nepal.
I am certain within few years this political ricketiness will settel making nepal a republic with regional governence. The transitional phase is agonizing.
The time depends on the path followed. But its a near future.

and you are ?? mr. jay mehta?? you and your facts!! whatever you wrote here is pretty obvious that you are more inclined towards the monarchy. there might be some amount of truth to this, but 100 % i don't think so. there might be some people like happy face who might endorse and agree with your opinion ... but at the end of the day it is just an opinion..just like i'm doing right now.. and to which i don't disagree by the way.. to be honest.. i think it is very healthy for a nation like ours... as long as we have constructive criticism..and respect for all the participants.
there are lot of issues that i would like to address but i don't want to bore you to death. to keep it short.. let me shine some light in this specific issue:
"The Nepalese identity for centuries was protected under a Crown and it was this Crown that enabled Nepal to be independent when most of the subcontinent was colonized by the imperial powers."
i agree to the above statement..but then we have to question ourselves, with what intentions and in what circumstances and how exactly did these so called "Crown" protected our nation from being colonized and if our nation was colonized would we be better off today? i'm no rocket scientist and neither do i have extensive knowledge when it comes to nepal history.. but i do not think that one needs to know much in depth or needs to be a historian to understand the rational behind where or how we got here today.. it is self explanatory for a Nepali citizen.
As citizens of nepal our people were deprived of our basic rights such as education, health care, while the maharajas were driving around town in imported fancy cars, and in all these years under the rule of the great kings.. our country lacked any kind of infrastructure besides the highways they built just so they can drive their fancy cars so they could go hunting or sightseeing. for years and years..we were taught to believe that the great kings are reincarnation of Lord Vishnu himself. to keep it short.. i'm not leaning towards .. let's call ourselves indians or we would be better off as india theory.. but by nomeans in my opinion.. will the great king.. or the reincarnation of Lord Vishnu himself can lead us to peaceful and Prosperous nation.
in conclusion.. i think our country is a young democracy... and i honestly believe that we are in a transitional phase....we will overcome..and we shall overcome all the obstacles...patience is the key..but action is much needed..but let's understand the fact that it hasn't been that long that us.. the nepali people have started questioning our authorities... we have always been taught to be good disciples..or followers.. "the good janta".. but slowly we are seeing young and fresh ideas surfacing with positive attitudes...new voices can be heard..and the leaders of tommorow are being born..
note:last but not least. in a healthy democracy.. a healthy exchange of ideas and opinions is a must.. and props to places like sajha.. where we can do just that.. guys.. there is so much to talk about..but it seems like momo is ready.. happy holidays..
peace and love
i had posted this comment earlier..but i posted it in the wrong one.. "no wonder why my country is not doing so well..."..hahahaha.. bad joke.. (by the way happy face.. the momo was deliiishhh..like always.. the sauce was a killaaaah!)
well.. let's keep it coming peeps.. and let's keep it healthy...no name callings guys.. common..

Jay: Nepal is a failed and foolish state because of the system which made us all fool. A system
- If plane dont fly, sacrifice animal just to appease Aakash Bhairab.
- Give unlimited power to one authority.
- Equality is mentioned only in Chapter One in the book. But discrimination is everywhere.
I am not blaming only King. Politicians are non better either. I dont think we have any good leader. None are worth calling them a leader. My point is, before we blame any other country, lets blame ourselves. We are the one who allowed these shitheads to exist and flourish.

Nepal is a failed state because of a combination of two elements. 1. Greedy And Corrupt Political Leaders(ALL OF THE PARTIES AND THE FUGGING KING). 2. Foolish, Splineless Bhedaaa mentality Citizens.
