Newton! Why's it a disgrace? Mind clarifying? FYI, Raju Lama was a well established singer in Nepal, not in India or the U.S. where he'd have been making a huge sum of money. Like any "sane" human being, the lad saw the opportunity upon landing in the Land of Opportunity hence thought that he'd rather be well off by staying in the states than by returning back home. I can understand your frustration. Yes it was sluggish and shameful but it was a disgrace. Had the music lovers been willing to pay to buy the legal cd's in stead of preferring to buy/copy the pirated versions then perhaps, he would've stayed back home but just think man! Isn't it an ill fate that one of the most notable singers in Nepal had to take the gigantic step and in spite of the prospect of condemnations and blastings, the singer had to do what he would have never imagined of doing? I feel sorry for him! Come on, one of the very few Nepalese who managed to be a household figure in Nepal being forced to stay here?! What else would he do back home? Open a CD store and sell the pirated CD's and DVD's that brought the downfall?
In all fairness, I'm for letting it slide and understanding the situation rather than criticizing his decision and IMHO, I'm thinking that he's perhaps staying here legally as after all, he was a National figure wasn't he? That's a random guess though.....

I do not know Raju Lama personally but I have heard the following from the people who know him and have dealt personally with him on matters of musical shows for which Lama came to the US.

Raju Lama and his band mates were invited by a Nepali organization in NY to perform in various programs. Based on that invite, they all got visas.

As per contract, Raju Lama and his band performed magnificently in all shows that they were required to.

Upon completion of contract, some members of his band decided to stay in the US, some decided to go back (along with Nima Rumba) to Nepal.

Raju Lama was one of those who decided it is best for his future to stay in the US.

Raju Lama, being qualified to apply for Green Card under a certain category that is allocated for entertainers - much like the case of Saroj Khanal and others, is in the process of Permanent Residency application.

Raju Lama is not staying here illegally as some may presume. It is his prerogative whether he stays in the US or goes back to Nepal. And as long as he is not doing anything that is against the law, it is his right.

I say, if Raju Lama chooses to stay in the US, get a green card, work wherever he wants, then more power to him. I just hope we will get to hear him sing now and then at get-togethers and programs.

He did a good thing staying here. Now, I won't have to deal with his singing. NO more new songs at least although the old crap is always there. He sings like a bitch and thats why he was not going anywhere in Nepal. good singers like Nabin, Deepak, Nima are doing well and don't have to stay here.

I personally don't like Raju lama.. i remember they tried to beat up an old guy in a stage once.. this short fat, self proclamed star is no good.. and he is disrespectful.. i even read his interview where he was saying " i do not want to go to foreign and dissapear" and here he is...being another example of cheap star turning into a cheap labor..
