I have worked and lived a sixth of my life outside of Nepal. And if I wanted to do so again, I could (technically) live outside Nepal. So many of my well-wishers (or so they would me to think of them) always seem to be intrigued of me living and working in Nepal. Some of them think (and are not hesitant to even say out publicly) I am stupid in still staying in while I still had the opportunity to go outside. Readmore>>

I know i am willing to give my hand. Is there anybody else?.

I think if you were successful in U.S or foreign land you are likely going to have a good life out there aswell.

If you couldn't make it here than likely you won't make it there aswell.

Peace

its an excuse for people abroad to say that u won't have opportunity in nepal...but you know a probverb in nepali "khane mukh lai junga le chekdaina.."" so u must be brave and strong enough to return to nepal....and u must be courageous to start carrer in nepal....it not the thing that every body [normal people-( office to home tye or people who think only abot themselves)] can do it ....good luck....

As a person living in USA rightnow, my SIXTH year now, I think I have thought about 1000 times in my life whether I truly want to live here.

Whenever I go home, I feel like I cheated my country. I have already stopped cursing local politicians. The country sent me to a good school, good college, and I got those chances while thousands others were deprived of basic amenities such as schools and colleges. And now, when I have to give something back, I am running away.

I know you have to live where you become happy. Do I fit here? No. Heck, when I topped my class one day and got the highest mark in probability class, I wanted to jump with joy, and I had no one to share that. I missed my highschool's friends at the time. We used to go to movie together, we used to go to eat samosa chat together, and now the only thing I am left with is memory.

May be I am too weak. But I definitely don't want to live a life where you don't know your apartment's neighbors, or your neighbors. I want to have a life. And in the morning, I want to go to Pashupatinath, and things like that. My country is poor, but I love every bit of it. I hope that we will be richer one day. And for us to be richer, a lot of us has to go back. A lot of us has to use our knowledge there. And yes, a lot of us has to come here also. Insulation won't make us rich, but desertion won't either.

ALSO:

I always fear that when my mom or dad become "very sick" (with god's blessing, they are healthy now), I won't be able to attend them. I am a single son. What am I supposed to tell them, "my boss won't be happy?" or something like that. Jeez. If I ask my boss, he actually very likely lets me go to Nepal, and often the real excuse is money. And how much money do we earn here anyway?

Back home, I could be something. Even when I am nothing. I think I really appreciate you living in Nepal. Just do something creative. Make yourself happy, make yourself convinced that you are doing something that is going to make yours, and somebody else's, life better.

hmm... Do i want to go back to Nepal?
In 10 years half the people of ktm will die without water and other half would be killed in riots.
In 2 years , KTM will be seeing the bright electric bulb glowing only one hour a day.

well above was pessimistic me even then i hope to go back one day.
WHY ?
A good friend of mine who is not Nepali when i was talking about Nepal told me :
" To Make a home , A head of the family has to sacrifice, To make a country a Generation has to sacrifice" {this might relate to some great people quotes - i don't know}
WHY I DON'T WANT TO GO BACK?
- I am afraid i will be one of them - corrupt
- I don't doubt myself i wouldn't be successful out there but i am afraid my success would not really mean anything to the country.[Success- Making money]I will be enagaged in the same way or people will push me into the same system. Many people have tried

.Can i take a chance?

Imi,

You can make a difference. You are damn right that a generation has to sacrifice.

You know, I never got a good math class on derivative and integration, and I didn't really understand the meaning of it when in Nepal. Now I understand derivative, integration, limit so well, that I want to teach the kids what they really mean.

As for money: I have noted that most Nepali in USA don't give a donation of more than 20 or 30 dollars to even a great cause. Even those who are here since thirty years and drive SUV, don't really have much in their pocket. khaana ra basna ta nepaalmaa pani pugeko thiyo jasto laagchha. I had a big house there, here I live in a cramped apartment. aba ke bhanne. let me finish here, and not be personal.

Do I smell a good momo here? Oops. It is just a hallucination.

It's a very sad thing that only two or three people discussing this situation even though there are a whole lot who feels the same way as pire or Imi do.
Pire, last year same thing happened to me. i got a call from ktm n then i found out that my mom had died. It was all of a sudden. My dad doesn't want me to go back but i am going back 'cause i dont' want to leave my dad alone. who knows i might not see him again if i decide to stay any longer.

Sacrifice, yap somebody has to do it. well why not me;)... been here long enough and done this n dat. Pire you are right, we can make a different there. I will be one in thousand there where as in The US i will be one in millions. I would rather have that life there. Lets join hand in hand n try to make a difference so that next generation won't blame the corrupt politicians, like we do. Things will change eventually. We are in between two power houses. they have to change us for good for them to get better. after all we got some natural resources.

If you dont' believe urself then what can i say. I might be corrupt but i might take less money to do things. that's a positive way to look at it Imi;)... doesn't mean that i will be corrupt:D. I don't have to go there to be in politics or to work for government. lots of ppl die in accidents here too. 50 years ago ppl had difficulty in this country too. doesn't mean that our country can't take a step forward. lets be us to make a difference. lets try something.

My opinion is if someone is willing and work hard, they can get whatever they want.. whether it be Nepal or US... on the other hand, I'm pretty passive guy.. happy w/ a 8-5 job, don't have much goals... so if i go to Nepal, my situation probably get worse... but whoever is trying to go back and give into the motherland, praise to u and good luck... w/ that kinda determination, i think u'lll succeed.

In my first visit in nepal after yrs,I got nothing but bitter experience.while going to Pashupatinath in the early morning my cousin was driving a TAXI( evn though thas not his profession, actually he owns a Taxi ).He happened to over take a private pajero or something, wat so ever,it was 4 wheels drive..May be he didnt like it or something. He jumped out of his jeep in the middle of the road. Then he starts punching my cousin's face.I was so shocked at the first place.I didnt see any reason to treat him like a dog. After of couple of minutes a policeman came in.they talked in a private for few secs, then he ordered my cousins to pull his taxi on the side. The most annoying thing is that he was addressing that guy as hajur, tapai and ta,padhata karaus?,uta gaihal to my cousins....
Afer couple of arguements, they took our taxi to the station..and we discovered that guy was already gone..and was PA of some minister.
( I heard them talking with each other, tyo Vip ko gadi)
Since that incident,my cousin never drives Taxi...

but could not appreciate above paragraph.
