The Nepali public is as afraid of the latest 'lover of Nepal' as much as the American liberal is afraid of a born-again Christian. Everytime you come across a chest thumping Jesus freak in front of the mall in America, it is scary.

The new Jesus convert is always scarrier than the Christian who has been practicing his faith all his life. At least, over the years, the old guard has attained a certain level of maturity by balancing his faith with the demands of living life. The new convert to either the Jesus faith or the nationalism faith doesn't have this filter of maturity. The new convert just has blind faith and a scary amount of passion to convert everyone into his new faith.

This is terrifying.

In the history of Nepal, every 'lover of Nepal' has come with it's own handful of problems. The Shahs wanted to love Nepal and Nepalese, squeezed the nation with their military might, and ruled the country with an iron fist. The Ranas, in the name of loving Nepal and Nepalese, "protected them" from exposure and education and took much of the Nepali public's wealth for themselves.

The Panches so loved Nepal and Nepalese, they thought that the way forward was to bow low to the Shahs and, for all intensive purposes, go with the Shahs agenda of 'loving Nepal.'
Nepal has seen all kinds of brands and flavors of lovers of Nepal.  We have seen the Congressia lovers of Nepal and their flourishing poetry. And we have seen the the UML lovers of Nepal with their convoluted communistic, neither-here-nor-there politics.

Lastly but not leastly, we have seen the Maobadi lovers of Nepal who insisted on practicing "tough love" and putting all the other lovers of Nepal in their place. This was the last hope for many Nepalese. These were supposed to be the true believers. You know, like the true followers of Jesus, the Maobadis were going to make heaven in Nepal?

So these days, whenever us Nepalese hear or see the latest nationalistic fanatic get on his soap box and start to deliver his chest thumping speech, it scares us. We think, "Oh god, what is this latest messiah (fool) who wants to save Nepal up to."

Spot on Brother!

I am always scared of Nepalis who want to do so much for Nepal and impose their heresy of nationalism upon you!

Not sure I am scared per say but liked the comparison.

What's the use of apostrophe in "lover's of Nepal" by the way?
