Facebook in Nepal: Identity theft waiting to happen


In 2006, Facebook opened its doors to anyone of ages 13 or older with a valid email address. Earlier, account membership was limited to students in American universities and colleges, high schools and employees of certain companies.

A few years after Facebook’s expansion on everyone’s lives, I started receiving “friend requests” from many of my friends and acquaintances in Nepal. It was a great way to keep in touch. Old friendships were renewed and we got rare glimpses of each other’s lives abroad and in Nepal.
