Dear friends, I was an F-1 student in the US. Now, I am out-of-status for more than 1 year. I don't have a driver's license and I reside in Texas. According to new Texas law, they verify the lawful status before issuing a driver's license. In this condition, how can I get a driver's license? Can I go to another state and get driver's license from there? If so, what is the procedure and which state nearby Texas? Please help me.

If you have a valid visa, I think Kansas would be the best option for you. Make sure you know someone in Kansas, so that the license can be posted to that address. I would recommend that you go to a DMV in a very small town.
Hope this helps.

Is it possible for you to get re-reinstatement? That's the only way i can see now. The DMVs are now getting stricter than before due to security threat and countless number of illegal in the U.S.

thanks nepthug420. Like Kansas, does anybody know if Louisiana also does not need status verification? I am asking this because it will be easier for me to travel there. @housto_kancho, Oh yeah, I never had a DL. If I had, it would be valid for 4-5 years I guess right? So, it would still be a long way to renew it. Crazyhorse, I don't think I can get reinstatement because of my unlawful status for more than a year. Thank you all. Good luck to me.

THEN, you should Register with Selective Service if these following criteria applies to you, Male, Out-of-Statues F1, and under 26. Its the LAW. Please visit WWW.SSS.GOV.
LAWS LINKING SSS REGISTRATION TO STATE DRIVER'S LICENSE APPLICATIONSThey instruct the state’s Department of Public Safety or Motor Vehicles to include a consent statement on all applications or renewals for driver’s permits, licenses, and identification cards. The statement tells the applicant that by submitting the application he is consenting to his registration with the SSS, if so required by Federal law. Females are not required to register with SSS under current law. Men 26 years of age or beyond are too old to register.

Thanks SIS, that information was very helpful, I didn't know about that.
But, why such discrimination between male and female? Why women don't have to register while men have to?
What if a girl under 26 is out of status F1? How can she get driver's license? If you know about it, plz post here. May be somebody could benefit with the information.
