'Ex-King awaits arrest upon his Nepal return'

Though I believe the rumour about possible arrest of Big G is nothing but 'haawa guff', if some maoist leader has hinted it, then it's certainly some kind of 'hataas manasthiti ko upaj'. Six months in office and no achievement in any front. What else can they think of except going back to their old habit of putting the entire blame on others. Gyanendra's ghost is still necessary for them to show that they're relevant. However, they should've realized by now that Nepali public's mood changes too quickly and whom the people will strike this time around is not so difficult to guess.

 

 

Just like yakthung_laje i care about my Identity and preserving my heritage.
Whether i am Gurung,Magar,Kirati,Newar,Tharu,Thakali,Sherpa,Tamang, or other undermarginalized
people of Nepal, we need o preserve their culture,identity and practices/rituals.
We need to preserve and show respect to these ancient believes and culture because that's
what our ancestors have been doing so.
It's my IDENTITY.
JanaJatis have never been heard or just been scraped by Shah rulers for hundreds of years now.
for example, Proclaiming Nepal as the Hindu State.
Did they ever ask the people about it?
I am not against Nepal being hindu state, but at least Shah should have shown respect to JanaJatis.
JanaJatis means native/indiineous people. It means that before Shah grandfather and grandmother came from
Iran-Paki-India-Nepal, these people were already making Nepal their home.

There's never in a single Nepali history about Panchayat system telling how JanaJatis were
not allowed to access to education.
For fear that if janajatis received education, they would hold high posts.

I heard vaguely about  what's written in Prithivi Narayan Shah's book "Dibya Upadesh" about the Gurkhas. Its written in the book that the Gurungs, Magars, Rais and Limbus should be used as weapons BUT they should never be allowed to assume IMPORTANT Posts. I heard that  Dibya Upadesh is like a manual book for the ruling, feudal class. whatever they have learnt comes through this book. So does anyone knows about this? I am looking forward to read the full article and find the answer. SKH

I like what I am hearing from Yakthung and Sajhakohero.  While I do not condone the current degraded state of Nepal, I also am happy that Shah rule has ended.

As for Gyanendra Shah getting arrested upon his return to Nepal, I think that is just some "bakwaas", an example of yellow journalism.

Sure there might be an investigation, in some shape or form, on the royal massacre, but that's about it.

shahs were rajputs from mewar clan who fled to western hills of nepal  in fear of the mughals and hoping to  get something to rule there.they came to dhor (tanahun)and settled there first. then their siblings and others moved to western hills near Kaski, gorkha and palpa . shah was a post given by the mughal sehanshah which means just a simple king or ruler but later this  became their last name.at that time gorkha was called UPPALLOKOT  and majhkot ruled by khadka kings and magar generals.lig lig was just a small takure rajya beside these two states which was of strategical importance.

after drabya shahs annexation of majhkot and uppalokot  the whole state was named gorkha(Goraksha-land of protectors of the holy cow).but after they moved to northen hills like gorkha and lamjung they got mixed with magars and khas and thus show some asian resemblance at times ,(upto mahendra they look typical indo-aryans but with birendras generation it changes).

There are other shahs (shahs from mid-and far-west). they are just khas shahs who call themselves thakuris.but at times they also got wed to the gorkhali shahs as  various political alliances.

the relationship between shahs and rajputs can be easily traced.apart from linguistic resembelance (rajsthani is much similar to nepali than other indian languages),there are also cultural resembelances.gorkhali kings celebrated  dashain as the main festival of the year and the rajputs too (as dushera with bali ,tika and  kotpuja) unlike any other hindu comunity of indian sub continent .the rakhi ceremony which was originally practised in rajsthan only is very similar to bhai tika and the folklore behind it too.the worship of 2 main deities shakti/durga/kali and rudra/mahadev is also similar. or be the similar structure of daura and rajastani dress.they were all brought by the shahs and later the ranas.

the nepalese flag previously was a single pendant similar to that of mewar dynasty( a faced sun on a red background as a symbol of suryabansi lineage).and later a faced moon was added( for the Kunwars -later ranas who were chandrabansi descendents).

Now people have some formal education, many of them are now looking deeper into their hertitage,
that's why enthicity is so important now. It's because for past hundreds years nobody dares to speak for
the undermarginalized people while others exploited it.
for example, do you know what enabled the Ranas to build massive, lavish palaces during their
