Dear friends,

This is to let you all know, for now, all Trade Union-related difficulties have come to an END at Himalmedia.

The LAST act was an agreement signed last week between the representatives of Himalmedia and the agitating Trade Union (Himalmedia chapter).

As per the agreement, the18 formerly agitating/'andolit' staff members have:

1) cleared up their dues to the company.

2) submitted written letters of resignations.

3) accepted severance packages, and

4) left by wishing the company well.

5) In addition, most are getting advisory help/reference letters from the company to find jobs elsewhere in and

out of Nepal.

Special thanks/gratitude to:

- the Himalmedia Board Members for their guidance,

- the Himalmedia journalists for their help,

- the Himalmedia non-editorial staff members and the existing Himalmedia Staff Union (non-political) leaders for all their support,

- and to you, Sajha friends, for your emails, phone calls, words of support, encouraging postings etc

to put this saga behind us so that, in days ahead, Himalmedia continues to focus on what it does best:

that is, serve the public by providing fearless, independent and truth-driven news and commentaries.

Thank you.

PS: I am finally taking a vacation -- to rest and relax! :-)

Dear ashu dai,
good to hear that its over finally at himal media and that you will have a good rest and every human needs rest

but look outside himal media, attack by maoists is ever increasing (hospitals, schools, industries, journalists etc etc)

being a journalists yourself now its time to become more pronounced (not only for himalmedia but also for others in need) against these cowardly and inhumane activities.

WHEN WOULD BE THE DAY THAT ALL NEPALESE BROTHERS AND SISTERS CAN RELAX!!!

Hahaha..

Another propoganda !! Seriosuly Ashu dai! Do you really believe that these scumbags won't interfere  with free press and free speech in the days ahead?? Especially  after the central comittee recently promulgated the fact that their ultimate goal is to establish a communism through socialism!

Good luck for working inside a so called free press! Not for long I would guess!
Regards and have a great vacation:)

Thanks, all.

I agree.

The labour-related problems are FAR from over for most companies in Nepal. In fact, they appear to be starting/ongoing for many private companies.

That is the sad reality under which we all have to operate in Nepal these days.

This thread was to SHARE the news of the END of such problems (after
much publicity here and elsewhere) at ONE company, which also happens
to be a media company.

I am certain that Himalmedia's Himal Khabar Patrika and Nepali Times will continue to share information, news and views on such problems and more
in days ahead.

Tetti ho.

On another note, I have just finished writing, upon their request, reference letters for most of these departed staff, many of whom are below the age
of 29.

My advice to them was: "Don't worry too much if you make your share of mistakes (of the non-criminal variety) about life, members of the opposite sex and jobs and careers before the age of 29. Assuming that you are a smart learner, you will be much wiser about those things in your 30s and 40s.
But if you go through life without making and learning from your mistakes made in your 20s, then the mistakes you will surely make later on will be much, much costlier for you in terms of everything!" :-)

The point, I told them, is to strive to live a grudge-free life, if one can help
it.

I think, this is one of the best advice to the youth-mass of today's Nepal. I appreciate Ashu for this advice. Most of YCL members and PLAs would come, at one point, to realize that they have made mistake. But, I doubt, if they will have enough courage to learn from their mistake and put them in right track for better future. Good advices like this, and successful life, job and careers thereafter will help others to bring into right track.

Dear Ashu good to hear good news regarding himal media and that things stand resolved where you're concerned.

I am currently concerned about the Army chief being offered ambassador position in UK so that maoist can appoint their own army chief. Media should play an important role in dissuading katuwal to not agree with this.
