Well now everybody seems to be rallying around the name "Ramraja Prasad Singh" as the 1st president of new Nepal. I dont know much about him except he was accounted for bombing some king's convoy in 2042. I think overwhelming support for his name is the result of our psychic-consciousness towards madesh and madeshi rights that have been embedded in our subconcious mind ever since the madesh movement. His nomination may lead the madesh aandolan from wilderness to a logical end, unthreatening to national sovereignty. But the risk of him being just another rubber-stamp, on the back-drop of his political inexperience and lack of broad-based political affiliation, can't be ruled out. Because he has no mass appeal, he is just single and he has no such political charisma could hinder his political decisions and actions to be taken at the time of national political crisis. No doubt his appointment will be a great milestone in making madeshi people feel inclusive towards the national process and helps in bringing them into the national main-stream making them feel less marginalised.  But he will be judged by how much he will try to bring disgruntled armed madeshi group into the negotiating table and how will he help bring the traitors ,who have burned the national flag in the past as a protest, into the court of justice.

Let's give him the benefit of doubt for now.....................

Heroes vs victims

 

Nobody has saved my head. Both the insurgent and the state’s forces have hit on my head hard instead.

 

Clearly, you and I are not tuned to each other here. That is why you are not getting me.

 

As I said, to me, there are no heroes in this war.

 

May be there are. But I don’t care about them at this point. The people I care at this point are the innocent civilian victims of both insurgent’s and the state’s abuses (people looted. tortured, killed or “disappeared” by them) who or whose loved ones are waiting for their property/dignity/life/whereabouts to be recovered/restored/known.

 

Your concern is for heroes. My concern is for the innocent victims. It’s like we are talking apples and oranges.

 

So let’s end this meaningless dialog. As for your concern that some “generalized data” might vilify certain heroes. I neither recognize those heroes, nor think they are more important than the victims of their heroism ! What more clear answer that this can I give you ?

I do. Because that’s a norm for how things move after every election, but mostly because Maoist have already floated their intention/desire/plan for every issue/question other parties are raising (PLA, YCL, confiscated properties, democracy and so on).

Thank you for your enlightening arguments. They are worth and helpful to understand the current political turmoils and its ramifications. However Nepeju, I am still not convinced with some of your arguments.

I agree with NEPE ju in most of the points. However, I as a peace loving ordinary Nepali and progressive democrat would like to see Maoist's firm commitment on the basic tenets of democracy- freedom of right to speak live, own private property and participate in any legal activity without fear and intimidation. Due to some incidents of Maoists, people are doubtful about their commitments through their deeds. Simply see what Comrade Mohan Baidya said about journalism few days ago (he wants to limit their rights by mixing liberal and communist principles), and other incidents such as not punishing the masterminds of Madi bus accident, handover of the killers of Ram Hari shrestha or other journalists and so on...and more importantly not returning the properties confiscated by them. I think you also agree with me that people voted for Maoists to lead the government and to implement all peace accords and accept democratic values and principles. What results showed was people simply did not want to elect old corrupt figures and let Maoist go to Jungle again. This is what I opine and majority of publics have seen the election results. Some Maoist sympathizers (may not be you) may argue that people voted Maoists to get the president’s post also and agreed for all misdeeds of YCL and their killings of innocent people. The results were for Maoist leadership but with coalition with other parties.

 

 I believe non-Maoist major parties currently are simply asking Maoists to show firm commitment on important issues and provide timeline for implementation of past agreements including restructuring of YCL, return of confiscated property and integration of Peoples Army.

 

So what is wrong with the attempts of political parties (NC and UML) on asking Maoists to show their commitment? I also think what is wrong with accepting Girija as the caretaker/powerless president since Prachanda has majority in the assembly and parties have agreed on Prachanda to lead the government with all executive power.

 

Also, many people may not like my assertion, but I still think we should be forward looking to judge Girija’s recent contribution. He disserves the presidency based on his significant contribution in the post 12 point agreement period. Anti-Girija  people may feel  uncomfortable to say verbally but their inner guts realize this bitter truth of Girija’s role for this smooth transition. My two cents suggestion to the major parties is : they should workout for  making Girija the president for a month or so and give him retirement and appoint a strong vice president who is dynamic and acceptable to all parties. What makes Maoist scare from Girija since they have secured all public support and has huge courage to run the government? This is still transition period. We got rid of Gyanendra, who was powerless. We still have Nepal Army which we need to democratize. We should handle NA carefully and to do that Girija’s presidency is the most. He will play the role carefully with the Nepal army as he did before.

 

 

I wonder if Nepe guruju  could provide me categorically why should not Maoist accept Girija as the president and why Maoist should not compromise/care about fulfilling the demands made by UML and NC?

and even survival and progress depends on

By letting “democratic” parties teach Maoist

to walk democracy little by little like a mother

teaching a toddler to walk by holding his hand

at every step ? or, by letting Maoist walk

democracy on their own while keeping

a close watch over ?

जस्तो एमाले कांग्रेस र मधेसका दलहरुविचको सिक्वेन्स मिल्यो भने सरकार पनि यही सिक्वेन्स अनुसार बन्छ नै । किनकी संबैधानीक प्रवधान अनुसार तीन सय एक जसले पुर् याउंछ सरकारले त्यसैले बनाउंछ । अनी जसले तीन सय एक पुर् याउंछ राष्ट्रपति उसैको हुन्छ ।
यसैले अहिले माओवादीले खेलेको गलत गेमका कारण माओवादीले अठाएको उम्मेदवारको पक्षमा भन्दा कांग्रॆसले उठाएको डा रामवरण यादवको पक्षमा माहौल बन्दै गएको छ । भन्न सकिन्न कसले शनिवार बेलुका अविर लगाउने हो । तर दुष्य स्पष्ट भएको छ यदी माओवादीको उम्मेदवारले राष्ट्रपतिमा जितेमा अब बन्ने सरकारमा कांग्रेस एमाले रहन्नन । अनी कांग्रेस एमालेका उम्मेदवारले जितेमा त्यो सकरारमा माओवादी रहन्नन । हुने चै के हो राजनीति हो यसका लागि शनिवार बेलुका पांच वजे कुर्नु बाहेकको विकल्प छैन ।
