Anup Bhandari is a student of fine arts, a third year bachelor student at University of Texas, USA. His debut solo art exhibition in Nepal is being held in Holi Art Gallery of Lazimpat, Kathmandu. The art exhibition was inaugurated last Saturday by Shankar Nath Rimal, the Secretary of Nepal Art Council.
The exhibit includes a total of nine works by the artist, which he has aptly dubbed “Andhayaroma Sapana” (dreams in the dark). All the paintings are abstract and have been executed against the black background. The artist clarified his choice of colors, “When we close our eyes to dream, in the beginning all we see is black, this is the reason why the background has been painted black. Then I let my imagination run free and painted images that entered my mind.”
The artist has had some exhibitions in America, the most notable among which was his exhibition to raise fund for the tsunami victims. He is a social worker as well and has been helping orphanages in Nepal by collecting books, toys and clothes.
The exhibition will continue till December 1 and will remain open from 10:30 am to six in the evening.
