'Discrimination' in PLA camp irks fighters

BY MOHAN BUDAAIR

MASURIYA, KAILALI, July 29 - Maoist combatants in a UNMIN-monitored camp have been been irked by "discrimination" over food and other camp facilities between their commanders and themselves.
According to sources, kitchen for the commanders is different where "good quality rice" is served along with curry, dal (lentil soup) and meat whereas only low-quality rice is cooked for the fellow fighters, which is served with either curry or dal.

Beides food, fighters said there was discrimination over shelter and other facilities between the "commander level" Maoists and lower-ranked fighters here in the seventh division. However, they have been ordered to remain mute over such practices and to simply obey directives of their seniors.

"We never get both daal and curry with rice," said a fighter on condition of anonymity. "However, we get meat once a week. But it can be either thulo khasi (buffalo meat) or sano khasi (mutton)." According to him, meat is served to the commanders as and when they ask.

According to him, there is a different mess for commander Prajwal, brigade command and camp secretary Singh Raj, and other brigade commanders where cooks are Maoist fighters. However, in the mess of fighters, they take turn to cook, which they claim to be the "commune system".

Similarly, while Prajwal's room is well furnished and carpeted where there are TV, computer with internet, cupboard and other pieces of furniture, the fighters have been sleeping on wooden cots with blankets or sleeping bags in the makeshift huts.

According to a hotelier at Masuriya, when Prajwal comes out of the camp, he usually eats meat with beaten rice while others eat samosas. "He (Prajwal) never drinks water we serve; he drinks only bottled mineral water." "The commune system, which the commanders and other leaders used to advocate during the insurgency, is gradually fading away," rues another Maoist fighter.

curry in unofficial dictionary means "indian smelly full of spice food"
where we have our own "tarkari" and "dal " always on side. Dont we have our own word to use rather coping the dhoti worlds word.

have you ever paid attention that nepali language and hindi language initially was and is written in devnagari dialect. we even share common religion called"hinduism". even the god that we pray are same.."brahma, bishnu and maheshwor". how many of you have your parents named after our god and goddess, ...so now tell me are they dhoti or nepali. so how come a simple word curry can't be nepali word. i don't understand how you guys can differentiate a simple word on the basis of its origin when both the languages evolved from same point.

One of the indian language also has the word 'tarkari' with the same meaning as in nepali. I forgot the name of that language.

In all fairness, "curry" is hindi and "Tarkari" is nepali! but i dont think that it's a huge issue coz both Nepali and hindi have the same roots!

i am sure we got the same roots but that dont mean we are all the same. There is a huge difference.when a mainstream newwspaper starts popularising "curry"word, that sort of puts us in a difficult position.
Answer is simple, if you cant write in english, dont write then but dont start brining coping words from a different source and make it sound like its one of ours...
for folks, who live in english speaking countries, again , you all know what curry means, Can we please stop polluting our own language?

Well how do i say... I like "chicken tarkari" in english then?

Remember the chicken was hatched, killed and cooked in nepal by a nepali.... using a mixture of turmeric, coriander, cumin, cayenne or other chilies, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, fennel, fenugreek, ginger, or garlic......

hmmm .. ?

Hey Leonardo, have you ever gone to a Thai restaurant and ordered yellow/red/green curry? I'm hoping you weren't expecting vindaloo.

Anyway, I found the report more interesting. Seems like Animal Farm in the works. I still vaguely remember the ending - "Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others."

Doesn't tarkari mean vegetable primarily. I have never heard oh aja kukhurako tarkari or khasi ko tarkari khaye.

curry doesn't mean tarkari. Curry actually means any of the many combinations of herbs and spices! If you just boil chicken and not put at least few of the ingridients like the ones mentioned by tobler above it won't be a curry.

curry is a style of cooking tarkari is vegtables.

BTW, How on earth can humans ever follow the communist system...They're bound to give in to our natural attibute of selfishness!!

forced into communism re? Prachanday ra Babumujiram le chahi communism afulai force garya ho?? Damn, You're generalising here...putting up extreme cases of villagers/school kids being forced/brain-washed into communism. The army leaders of the communist forces are not forced into the system by other armed dimwits per se; they are forced by their own interior selfish motives (and only in that pointare you correct).

curry is neither Nepali or Hindi word. It is coined by British; likely from south indian language. So shut up and spend your energy on some other better topics.

"I hate curry smell"
