Nepal does not allow dual citizenship. If you take American citizenship, or any other citizenship for that matter, your Nepali citizenship is automatically revoked. But Nepal government does not have any set procedure to find out whether you have acquired another nation's citizenship. So, you can continue to carry Nepali passport, you can continue to own property in Nepal, you can continue to enjoy the privileges that come with Nepali citizenship, UNTIL they find out and take necessary steps.

. riten, what could be the steps? actions, if found! And yes .. they dont have proper mechanisms , i agree. And do u hear what PM speaks on CAN. the concept of E-NEPAL , new nepal .. I remember i was on some conference some years back where the HLCIT people were talking about E-GOVERNANCE. [ well, this would make the above tasks simpler , tracking citizenship status with citizen's central repository or sth ] I still dont get why they brood over something which comes up only after when good governance holds in. Just to be in context , HLCIT website only talks about telecenters as part of their advent towards E-GOVERNANCE." sucks! " - a highly technical slang!

So if I am a US citizen and I travel to Nepal and show my Nepalese passport instead of my US passport at the TIA arrivals, would I be in trouble ? When I return to US, will the US immigration look for some kind of proof/stamp in my US passport to check that I had indeed visited Nepal or would they simply not care?

Nepali government don't recognize dual citizenship as yet. Now that the communist forces have joined the parliament, I dont think they will hold any positive take while re-writing constitution in favor of dual citizenship. The past advocates and policymakers of free-markets and democracy also held the same view of no dual citizenship. I don't think the newly reinstated parliament will do anything new regarding this issue coz they are the same bunch of politicians and f&*king policymakers. Here's the image of the link to that law that says no dual citizenship. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:51026wa2.jpg

Has anyone here travelled to Nepal with their Nepalese passport after becoming a US citizen? Did you have any problems at the US immigration while returning?

US immigration only cares if you are a US citizen or not that is all. it doesn't bother what other citizenship you hold.

I know many US citizens who live in Nepal like those St Xavier's fathers, peace corps members and others. How do they get to live and work in Nepal? Which visa are they in?

What does a Nepalese marriage certificate look like? Does it also mention the date of the birth of both the husband and wife (in english date) along with their full name, place and date of marriage?

also, when returning to the US, does the US immigration check where exactly you had been during your trip overseas (do they look for that country's arrival stamp in your US passport) or do they simply not care and let you in if you are a US passport holder ?
