YA, it would reflect on positive side, but still I would write whether that was effective or not, if not why? so I could touch the negativities there. let's see.

oh well.

iZen,
You have managed to tickle my fancy by calling Mr. Gates "a modern day colonizer." Whether you like it or not, Bill Gates is a modern day dream of millions of ambitious individuals. If he can "colonize" anything that's cause he was the one who made that possible. What's wrong with him voting for Bush? May be like a lot of us, he went with the best option available. If you are sad that Bush defeated the other candidate, may be you should've paid more attention to the attributes of the candidate you sent to face Bush.

I think the paper is being written here Bhangli Damini...are you taking good notes. One more thing, its Bill GateS not Gate... :)

I wish I remembered the name of the book. There is a book on software development published back in 1990 or so. It is a collection of interviews and views from the top-notch ones, including Bill Gates, Allen and so on. The publisher was McGraw Hill(??). He had a lengthy discussion there. Nothing so particular.

I'd call him a lucky one rather than a smart one, if choice has to be made. Just interesting, he will be giving his two daughters $20m or so each when they grow up. I wonder if he cares about my charity... TestDirect International Fund

VB,
Bill Gates uses ruthless tactics of monopoly and hence he is wrong.I am sure you will postulate a theory supporting Waltons next the greatest legacy of the capitalist world.Lets not even go deep on Bush who is the devil on the face of earth and talk about the other candidate.Martin Sheen is better than Bush.Kerry ta parai jawos bro.
Bush is a modern day incarnation of what the western world has done to the planet earth.Europe or America they have only used the principle of exploitation whether it be nature or rest of the other globe dwellers especially the continents of asia and africa.West believes in gun powder that was invented in the east. You will emerge and accuse me now for being obssessed with the past.Yes I donot approve western world or the world that we live in today that is run by a man who never got out of his ranch before he was what ever world thinks he is today.
And Bill Gates endores a man like that. They are both bullies one in a corporate world and the other in a political world.I donot intend to ignite any hatred against anyone but injustice is simply unacceptable.

Bill Gates doesnt use ruthless tactics...
Bill Gates believes in the power and the smarts of doing business. Other people cant compete with them as they are too busy f@#*ing their mistresses. Heres a man who has made an empire on something he believed in. His school didnt believe in him, the society then didnt believe in him, the law didnt believe in him when he was down and out. Him and few of his friends stuck it out through the hardtimes and made a living out of what they believed in. Whats wrong in it if he wants to take care of the people who took care of him when he was down and out. It's not for money he is doing it. He has more than he can spend in three human lives. Its for the passion. The same passion that took him out of Harvard and put him in jail. Let the man do his work.
About Bush, may be Martin Sheen could've defeated him. May be I could've knocked your ass out on the sidewalk. May bes dont win election, actually may bes dont do anything. The same reason Kerry didnt win!
Bush is doing what he was chosen to do in the white house if you have a problem, deal with it. Its democracy... other half or more than half that elected him are happy. the votes didnt come out of someone arse. There were people who were supporting him. If you dont like big f#$#ing deal.

There's no western or eastern manner Izen. Look around you.. that kinda shit's been burried a long time ago. There's only one way, the way to win. If you dont like it, Kerry is your result. You accuse me of being brainwashed and again ask me to watch Pat Robertson show. How can you tell me that you haven't been or are not going to be brainwashed by his shows?

VB,
You are preaching a Machavillian theory of end defines the means philosophy here.It is so pre-renaissance and I believe in the name of industrial revolution west indeed manipulated the calmer rather peaceful territories of the planet.I am not digging long gone past and graves of evil minds that drew the picture of what the world looks like today.I am not chasing victorious if you think I am dispalying that manner. It is very hypocritical to even mention politics when discussed about the matter that we are doing today.Humans have merely turned into machines and the west has further assisted us in making that real.We have been brainwashed to believe in truth that has no basis after-all.
Western civilization is responsible for degradation of human kind and creation of the gap between the upper classes and the downtroddens. And yes I am not a maoist before you accuse me the way I talk. The immense gap between these two completely different territories must be slimmed before the gap is further widened resulting in revolt like the one in our own backyard.
And I am nether going to be brainwashed by Pat Robertson nor some abstract theories written for the humans in the past(yes I meant das capital or something close).I have been brainwashed by the equality and justice for all.And true I can't help it.
iZ

Bhangali damini,
I think you can find a lot of Articles on Bill gates in The Wall Street Journal and New York Times. I remember reading a lot about his ways of business and trouble he has with EU in these papers(we get free copy of these papers in our school). I don't remember the particular issues but it was during the summer months of 2005. Also, if you can get FORTUNE, it usually have some articles about Bill Gates and his company. Your school's library must have the collection of recent issues of FORTUNE, old issues they might have already microfilmed. So, you have a long way to go. Your library is the best place to go. Good Luck

Sorry, but I really have to agree with each and every word from VincentBodega. As one of my fav quote says: There is nothing good nor bad only the thinking makes it so. Period! As for Bill Gates well he is a business man and not a holy man hehe. Simple as that. As a person, I think Bill Gates is a brilliant man. His business strategy is nearly unstoppable. He understands what it takes to compete and succeed. He has become one of the richest men on earth becuase he's intelligent and ruthless. We dont need to like him but we also cant ignore the fact.

Well if we are talking about evil then for me Sam Walton, Larry Ellison ARE far more evil businessmen than him. But then again its just me...

Your fallacy lies in the fact that you fail to see it is in the eastern world that the gap between the upperclass and the lower class in the greatest. Look at the western world, the gap is narrower because there exists a separate class in between: its called the middle class. I dont see that class in the eastern world, viz. China, Nepal, India, Pakistan...
This is no theory out of a text book so don't associate any names with it. This is common sense. The equality and justice for all society will never exist, except if its on paper. The reason is simple, there's no space for all the people at the top. There will always be a class system in a society. The goal is to make it feasible for all the members of different classes to be able to jump from the lower to the higher if they want and have the zeal to do so. This is what Bill Gates exemplifies. He glorifies the society where if you believe in a dream and work on it you can make it in life. He doesnt believe in a society that expects things done for them. If this is what you mean by "turing humans into machines," then sign me up. I believe in my own wit and ability to make that jump between social classes. I dont need a law that's gonna put me at a place without having to work for it.

It may sound obsessive with the long gone past but the reason which gave birth to such a gap in the east was the western idea of colonizing the weaker ones for their selfish causes.European tyranny in the past and American aggression in the present is the root cause behind the lagging of third world societies. The easterners were smart enough to invent gun powder, compass, printing machines, the numeric zero the basis of all that shapes modern society but never sailed around the globe with cruel intentions of slaving and colonizing other societies.Should we have done that.NO.The civilization built on a strength of sword undoubtedly falls apart by the sword. The seed that was sowed to maintain the western might with the help of gun powder has now resulted in attacking soverign nations that are weaker with an excuse of planting freedom theat are less impressive than the idea of colonizing wealthier nations 300 years ago.
The truth above is bitter pal.And only if you are brave enough and fair enough will you see that truth. It requires no effort to see the surface about what has been done in the past but if you open your eyes.Truth will appear.

let me put my understanding of your post as few queries to you.
you said that the reason eastern societies have a wide gap between their upperclass and the lower is the reason of western idea of colonizing...,
Isn't it totally and utterly bizzare that when the western society lives with the same principle the gap is the smallest? Wouldnt you expect even wider gap in the western world because of such big eat small ideology?
Or is this just a bitching mentality that "you" tend to possess we are seeing the aftermath of in the eastern world? Or its an indirect proof of how we all move forward as a society together hand in hand will never work.
I see everything clear from my end, the question is do you see anything beyond what's been taught to you in the realm of a classroom.

You wrote:
Narrow nationalistic views that were encouraged in the past by the architects of the west gave birth to the "shining house on the top of the hill" like what Ronald Reagan would preach on evolved in the expence of exploitation in a global scale.Surely and certainly west flourished and the so called "great society"came into play. But did they do it solely on their own effort. The answer is no.
Let me give you a simple example.A nationalistic hero passionate about Nepal visions a just and prosper Nepali society.Should he do that with the limited resources and sole Nepalese efforts or should he attack a weaker Bhutan and exploiting Bhutanese people ( a sovereign nation)in order to create a well off nepalese middle class. In thsi case the west has used the latter idea for their well being.
We can only work together if west admits its ruthless past.I am for peaceful and prosper world not just prosper west.:)

Bill Gates is a towering figure in the history of mankind, and exemplifies what hard work and perseverence can do for you. Bill Gates dropped out of college to start his own business with one of his friends. If one has a good idea and knows in his heart that it is going to work, it's better to jump on the idea. While college education acts as a cushion to assist average people to find jobs, to thinking people, college is a waste. There are a plethora of examples that could be pointed to prove the viewpoint that college is not really a requirement to start a career. If you have a good idea and you run with it, it might in fact make all your dreams come true.
There is a relatively new movie out called Napoleon Dynamite that demonstrates the vagaries of life. One can be ostracized by one's peers, yet, one can succeed by sheer chance alone. It's a pretty funny movie, which baby boomers should find to be funny. Older people might not like it because some of the jokes can only be understood by the in-crowd. But it's a good movie for anybody, really. Roger Ebert did not like it though.
