Maoists control nowhere in Nepal, army says
Mon Apr 25, 5:03 AM ET South Asia - AFP
KATHMANDU (AFP) - Maoists rebels do not control any areas of Nepal, an army general said after reports that government troops had captured an insurgent headquarters in the remote west of the mountainous kingdom.
"There is no such thing as a Maoist stronghold area or their headquarters anywhere in the country as the security forces are able to get anywhere within the kingdom," chief of Royal Nepal Army Mid-west Division Major General Dipak Bikram Rana said on Monday.
"Our security forces can get anywhere in the kingdom anytime, it depends on our choice where we want to go," Rana told AFP.
"The rumours created by the rebels that they have headquarters or their stronghold areas or bastions anywhere in the country is misleading or totally false," he said.
