Picture No. 5 is the view from around Daman, looking north northwest down into the Palung valley jasto lagcha , but I could be wrong. At the centre foreground, above the fir treetops, barely visible is a sliver of the Tribhuvan Rajpath heading left to right. There were a few stores around there, and, if I recollect correctly, a mill cum granary.

Of the hills in the backdrop, the one on the top right corner loops northeast of which one arm slopes downwards on whose ridge, or thereabouts, rests the one-dog-stop of Tistoong. Some miles due east, in the direction of the right edge of the picture, is the Kulekhani river valley and reservoir.

I have some strong memories of that area where I?d hiked and taken several trips. Twas back when I was a wee lad and traveling with the school football squad returning from a tournament at St. Josephs, North Point, Darjeeling. That late monsoon season, some bridges on the Nepalese highway were washed out so our party was forced to take the train from New Jalpaiguri to Muzzafarpur in India. Where swirling brown waters steadily crept across the landscape as streams and rivers breached their banks. On oft flood washed roads we journeyed that last day, the driver made a cautious but frantic dash for higher ground in the north towards Nepal, away from the steadily rising floodwaters in the Gangetic plains.

Arriving at dusk in Birgunj, and after strenuous haggling, one of the remaining buses at the stand was chartered for the final leg. We quickly pressed on into the stormy night, exhausted and anxious lest the one remaining highway into the capital city be closed by mudslides or washed out bridges.

Near midnight the bus clattered to a halt at Tistoong for the first real meal stop of that memorable trip. In the foggy gloom of a chilly, rainy night I stepped into a grimy dive. And wolfed down steaming platefuls of daal, bhaat and aloo bhujia. Ambrosia prepared by the Gods themselves! It stands out, in my memory, as one of the finest meals I?ve ever had. Cordon bleu and jiaozi be damned!

Excellent pictures chatmandude, thanks for sharing. Hope you don't mind my impromptu kahani.
